According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, combustion of petroleum-based and other fossil fuels results in the increasing atmospheric concentrations of $CO_2$ and other greenhouse gases (GHG's) and is a major contributing factor to global warming. This paper includes estimates of the energy and petroleum use and the GHG emissions caused by the transportation sector. It then examines the extent to which diversions to alternative modes may be possible. Estimates are made of the potential reductions in energy and petroleum use and GHG emissions resulting from diversions from conventional modes, to both low-speed urban and high-speed intercity maglev vehicle trips based on "well-to-wheel" (i.e. total-fuel-cycle) calculations.

By means of the compatibility according to solving environmental pollution and energy problem due to the emissions of NOx and smoke from diesel engine this paper experimentally inspected the effect of using emulsified fuel, gas oil-water, for combustion characteristic, that is combustion pressure, pressure rise rate, heat generating rate, the period of ignition delay and specific fuel consumption, and CO, HC, NOx concentration and smoke density. When using emulsified fuel, as a water addition rate was increased, combustion pressure, pressure rise rate and heat generating rate was increased, the period of ignition delay was lengthening, the specific fuel consumption was some what increased in contrast to diesel fuel in low load, but deceased in high load region. And NOx concentration was decreased, CO concentration was increased in low load, but decreased in high load region, HC concentration was increased in contrast to diesel fuel in all region.
The effect of pilot injection quantity on the combustion and emissions characteristics of a compression ignition engine with a biodiesel-compressed natural gas (CNG) dual fuel combustion (DFC) system is studied in this work. Biodiesel is used as a pilot injection fuel to ignite the main fuel, CNG of DFC. The pilot injection quantity is controlled to investigate the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in a single cylinder diesel engine. The injection pressure and injection timing of pilot fuel are maintained at approximately 120 MPa and BTDC 17 crank angle, respectively. Results show that the indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) of biodiesel-CNG DFC mode is similar to that of diesel-CNG DFC mode at all load conditions. Combustion stability of biodiesel-CNG DFC mode decreased with increase of engine load, but no notable trend of cycle-to-cycle variations with increase of pilot injection quantity is discovered. The combustion of biodiesel-CNG begins at a retarded crank angle compared to that of diesel-CNG at low load, but it is advanced at high loads. Smoke and NOx of biodiesel-CNG are simultaneously increased with the increase of pilot fuel quantity. Compared to the diesel-CNG DFC, however, smoke and NOx emissions are slightly reduced over all operating conditions. Biodiesel-CNG DFC yields higher $CO_2$ emissions compared to diesel-CNG DFC over all engine conditions. CO and HC emissions for biodiesel-CNG DFC is decreased with the increase of pilot injection quantity.

As the concerns regarding global worming were increased, the pressure of greenhouse gas(GHG) emission reduction on mobile source was also increased. Carbon dioxides contribute over 90% of total GHG emission and the mobile source occupies about 20% of this $CO_2$ emission. Therefore automotive exhaust is suspected to be one of the major reasons of the rapid increase in greenhouse effect gases in ambient air. In this study, in order to investigate $CO_2$ emission characteristics from gasoline passenger cars(PC), which is the most dominant vehicle type in Korea, 106 vehicles were tested on the chassis dynamometer. $CO_2$ emissions and fuel efficiency were measured. The emission characteristics by displacement, gross vehicle weight, vehicle speed and CVS-75/vehicle speed mode were discussed. Test modes were vehicle speed modes and CVS-75 mode that have been used to develop emission factors and to regulate for light-duty vehicle in Korea. It was found that $CO_2$ emissions showed higher large displacement, heavy gross vehicle weight, low vehicle speed and CVS-75 mode than small displacement, light gross vehicle weight, high vehicle speed and vehicle speed mode, respectively. From these results, correlation between $CO_2$ emission and fuel efficiency was also determined. The results of this study will contribute to domestic greenhouse gas emissions calculation and making the national policy for climate change.

According to the "Framework Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth", publication of annual national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory report is mandatory. This annual GHG inventory report is used as basal data for GHG mitigation strategies. In the livestock sector, GHG emission trends from year 1990 to 2013 were estimated based on the 1996 IPCC guidelines with the Tier 1 methodology. GHG emissions from the livestock sector in 2013 were 9.9 million tons $CO_2-eq$., where emissions from enteric fermentation were 4.4 million tons $CO_2-eq$, increased by 47.4% over 1990 mainly due to the increase in non-dairy cattle population. On the other hand, GHG emissions from livestock manure in 2013 were 5.5 million tons $CO_2-eq$, increased by 75.5% over 1990 mainly due to the increase in non-dairy cattle, swine and poultry populations. Additional research is required to develop country-specific emission factors to estimate GHG emissions precisely from livestock in South Korea.

In the present study, a single cylinder four stroke dual fuel diesel engine was tested to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of various test fuels. The engine was tested in dual fuel mode using diesel and Karanja biodiesel blends as pilot fuel along with Natural gas as primary fuel with a constant gas flow rate under different loading conditions. From the experimentation it was found that smoke opacity and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are at low level for all the prepared test fuels in dual fuel mode but the emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and hydrocarbon (HC) were found higher. In comparison to diesel fuel, by increasing the blend percentage different emission parameters are found to be reduced. At different loading conditions all the test fuels show poor performance in dual fuel mode of operation when compared with single mode of operation with diesel and biodiesel. With increase in gas flow rates, except (NOx) and smoke emissions, the other emission parameters like CO, HC and $CO_2$ values increased for all test fuels. Again, all blended fuels showed lower performance compared to diesel. The maximum pilot fuel savings for diesel was found decreasing with the increase in karanja biodiesel. From the present work it may be concluded that Karanja biodiesel with Natural gas in dual mode can be can used as promising alternative for diesel with some required engine modifications and further research must be carried out to minimize the emissions of CO, HC and $CO_2$.

Low carbon construction is an important operation management goal such as cost, time, and quality in construction community. This paper introduces a system which measures the variability of carbon dioxide amounts. First, this system allows creating construction operation models of which the level of detail is breakdown into the work task level. Second, the system implements sensitivity analysis along with a ranges of resources that are allocated in an operation model. It facilitates to find the optimal resource combination using the operation performances such as the amount of emissions, operation completion time, and cost. Lastly, it identifies the best fit probability distribution functions of performance criteria given a certain resource combination. It allows project manager to query the percentages to complete the operation within a limitation specified by the system users.

Hydrogen as an energy carrier in fuel cell offers perhaps the largest potential benefits of reduced emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. The generation of high-purity hydrogen from hydrocarbon fuels is essential for efficient operation of fuel cell. Reduction of carbon monoxide to an acceptable level of 10ppm involves high temperature and low temperature water gas shift (WGS), followed by selective oxidation of residual carbon monoxide. The WGS reactor was designed and tested in this study to produce hydrogen-rich gas with CO to less than 5000 ppm. In the water gas shift operation, gas emerges from the reformer is taken through a high temperature shift (HTS) catalyst to reduce the CO concentration to about $2{\sim}4%$ followed to about 5000 ppm via a low temperature shift (LTS) catalyst.

The aim of this work is to identify application of ultra low NOx and CO combustor. To achieve this, we developed the premixed oxidizer-staging combustor using a cyclone flow. Various factors such as equivalence ratio for the combustion condition and swirl type for secondary air injection have been tested experimentally for flame stability and NOx, CO emission characteristics. Before to do this, we had been tested cyclone premixed combustor in advance. it is similar to first combustor of premixed oxidizer-staging combustor. As a result, cyclone premixed flame shows the very high flame stability and low NOx emission. however, it can be identified that there were some problems such as a little high CO emission and thermal resistance of combustor wall. Cyclone premixed oxidizer-staging combustor can resolve those of problems. In our combustor, we can found out optimal condition that the secondary air injection method is swirl type, swirl direction is co-swirl and equivalence ratio of first combustor is 1.3. Quantitatively, we can achieve 10.8 ppm for NOx and 30.2 ppm for CO emissions respectively. Form this result, we can identified that cyclone premixed oxidizer-staging combustor can apply to ultra low NOx and CO combustor.
