  • A phase-locked dielectric resonator oscillator (PLDRO) is an essential component of millimeter-wave communication, in which phase noise is critical for satisfactory performance. The general structure of a PLDRO typically includes a dual loop of digital phase-locked loop (PLL) and analog PLL. A dual-loop PLDRO structure is generally used. The digital PLL generates an internal voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) frequency locked to an external reference frequency, and the analog PLL loop generates a DRO frequency locked to an internal VCXO frequency. A dual loop is used to ease the phase-locked frequency by using an internal VCXO. However, some of the output frequencies in each PLL structure worsen the phase noise because of the N divider ratio increase in the digital phase-locked loop integrated circuit. This study examines the design aspects of an interconnected PLL structure. In the proposed structure, the voltage tuning; which uses a varactor diode for the phase tracking of VCXO to match with the external reference) port of the VCXO in the digital PLL is controlled by one output port of the frequency divider in the analog PLL. We compare the proposed scheme with a typical PLDRO in terms of phase noise to show that the proposed structure has no performance degradation.

  • The LRV1-4 capsid protein possesses an endoribonuclease activity that is responsible for the single site-specific cleavage in the 5' untranslated region (UTR) of its own viral RNA genome and the formation of a conserved stem-loop structure (stem-loop IV) in the UTR is essential for the accurate RNA cleavage by the capsid protein. To delineate the nucleotide sequences, which are essential for the correct formation of the stem-loop structure for the accurate RNA cleavage by the viral capsid protein, a wildtype minimal RNA transcript (RNA 5' 249-342) and several synthetic RNA transcripts encoding point-mutations in the stem-loop region were generated in an in vitro transcription system, and used as substrates for the RNA cleavage assay and RNase mapping studies. When the RNA 5' 249-342 transcript was subjected to RNase T1 and A mapping studies, the results showed that the predicted RNA secondary structure in the stem-loop region using FOLD analysis only existed in the presence of Mg$\^$2+/ ions, suggesting that the metal ion stabilizes the stem-loop structure of the substrate RNA in solution. When point-mutated RNA substrates were used in the RNA cleavage assay and RNase T1 mapping study, the specific nucleotide sequences in the stem-loop region were not required for the accurate RNA cleavage by the viral capsid protein, but the formation of a stem-loop like structure in a region (nucleotides from 267 to 287) stabilized by Mg$\^$2+/ ions was critical for the accurate RNA cleavage. The RNase T1 mapping and EMSA studies revealed that the Ca$\^$2+/ and Mn$\^$2+/ ions, among the reagents tested, could change the mobility of the substrate RNA 5' 249-342 on a gel similarly to that of Mg$\^$2+/ ions, but only Ca$\^$2+/ ions identically showed the stabilizing effect of Mg$\^$2+/ ions on the stem-loop structure, suggesting that binding of the metal ions (Mg$\^$2+/ or Ca$\^$2+/) onto the RNA substrate in solution causes change and stabilization of the RNA stem-loop structure, and only the substrate RNA with a rigid stem-loop structure in the essential region can be accurately cleaved by the LRV1-4 viral capsid protein.

  • Angiogenin is a member of the ribonuclease superfamily that induces the formation of new blood vessels. It has been suggested that the surface loop of angiogenin defined by residues 59-71 plays a special role in angiogenic function (1); however, the mechanism of action is not clearly defined. To elucidate the role of the surface loop on the structure, function and stability of angiogenin, three surface loop mutants were produced in which 14 amino acids in the surface loop of RNase A were substituted for the 13 amino acids in the corresponding loop of angiogenin. The structure, stability and biological functions of the mutants were then investigated using biophysical and biological approaches. Even though the substitutions did not influence the overall structure of angiogenin, they affected the stability and angiogenic function of angiogenin, indicating that the surface loop of angiogenin plays a significant role in maintaining the stability and angiogenic function of angiogenin.

  • A loop structure optimization algorithm is proposed for generting a set of efficient codes for loop structure in order to optimize RISC compiler codes. Since there are so many loop structure in the program, most of the execution time is used to process looping codes. Thus, reduction of loop instructions is more effective than optimizing codes outside the loop. The proposed algorithm presents a method to combine several different loops into a simple loop. Therefore, rather than executing each loop independently, loops in the program are serached, analyzed, and finally created some relative informtion such as dependency and range. In doing so, the loops in the program can efficiently be recombined and restructured. As a result, the overall execution time for the program of the sequential programming language is reduced.

  • Distribution systems are operated in radial structure, but temporal loop structure could be founded the live load transfer. Main purposes of reconfiguration of distribution network are load balancing, loss minimization and voltage drop maintaining. In the loop structure, huge loop current can be flowed between two substations in case of large voltage angle difference. Protection devices of distribution line can be triped by this huge loop current. So, precise calculation of loop current is very important for secure switching. This paper proposes a novel calculation method of loop current using the voltage angle differences measured at the tie switches. Feasibility of the propose method has been verified by various case studies based on Matlab simulation.

  • In this paper, the state-space representation of generalized complimentary filter is proposed. Complementary filter has the suitable structure to merge information from sensors whose frequency regions are complementary. First, the basic concept and structure of complementary filter is introduced. And then the structure of the generalized filter and its state-space representation are proposed. The state-space representation of complementary filter is able to design the complementary filter by applying modern filtering techniques like Kalman filter and $H_{\infty}$ filter. To show the usability of the proposed state-space representation, the design of Inertial Navigation System(INS) vertical channel damping loop using Global Positioning System(GPS) is described. The proposed GPS/INS damping loop lends the structure of Baro/INS(Barometer/INS) vertical channel damping loop that is an application of complementary filter. GPS altitude error has the non-stationary statistics although GPS offers navigation information which is insensitive to time and place. Therefore, $H_{\infty}$ filtering technique is selected for adding robustness to the loop. First, the state-space representation of GPS/INS damping loop is acquired. And next the weighted $H_{\infty}$ norm proposed in order to suitably consider characteristics of sensor errors is used for getting filter gains. Simulation results show that the proposed filter provides better performance than the conventional vertical channel loop design schemes even when error statistics are unknown.

  • Nuclear power plants have logical loop structures in their system configuration. This paper explains the method to solve a loop structure in reliability analysis. As examples of loop structured systems, the reactor core isolation cooling system and high-pressure core injection system of a boiling water reactor are considered and analyzed under a station blackout accident condition. The analysis results show the important role of loop structures under severe accidents. For the evaluation of the safety of nuclear power plants, it is necessary to accurately evaluate a loop structure's reliability.

  • In this study, we applied the model predictive control(MPC) to Multi-loop control structure. Since MPC has many advantage for MIMO process and constraints handling, it induces the better performance to apply MPC to multi-loop control. And we suggest the advanced method to reduce the calculation load using the wavelet transform. It shows the possibility to substitute the existing PID control based structure with MPC.
