  • An available capacitance increasing phase-locked loop(PLL) with two voltage controlled oscillator gains has been proposed. In this paper, the available capacitance of loop filter is increased by using two positive/negative gains of voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). It results in 1/10 reduction in the size of loop filter capacitor. It has been designed with a 1.8V $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The simulation results show that the proposed PLL has the same phase noise characteristic and a locking time of conventional PLL.

  • In this paper, the several printed square loop antennas which modified monopole antennas are proposed. The proposed antennas are reduced about 20% physical size of antenna and miniaturized reactance value of impedance due to fold center part of the loop. They obtained omni-directional radiation patterns with broad bandwidth and feed method used coplanar waveguide to composed single planar. The proposed antenna bandwidth is about 900MHz($2.63{\sim}3.56GHz]$) resonance frequency on $VSWR{\le}2$. it can be sufficiency of S-DMB band.

  • In this paper, a microstrip antenna with a small loop consisting of the left and right parallel plate to load capacitor is proposed. It is obtained the improved small size than the antenna of the transformed Uh and the antenna of the left and right parallel plate to load capacitor on QMSA. Equivalent circuit of transmission line model is designed to find more accurate resonant frequency. Also, the designed and fabricated antenna can receive both vertically and horizontally polarized waves to operating frequency of 1.5GHz. Therefore proposed antenna is available as a small antenna for wireless communication and will be quite useful for indoor communication

  • The analog front end (AFE) of a radio frequency identification transponder using the ISO 14443 type A standard with a 100% amplitude shift keying (ASK) modulation is proposed in this paper and verified by circuit simulations and measurements. This AFE circuit, using a 13.56 MHz carrier frequency, consists of a rectifier, a modulator, a demodulator, a regulator, a power on reset, and a dynamically enabled digital phase locked loop (DPLL). The DPLL, with a charge pump enable circuit, was used to recover the clock of a 100% modulated ASK signal during the pause period. A high voltage lateral double diffused metal-oxide semiconductor transistor was used to protect the rectifier and the clock recovery circuit from high voltages. The proposed AFE was fabricated using the $0.18\;{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process, with an AFE core size of $350\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;230\;{\mu}m$. The measurement results show that the DPLL, using a demodulator output signal, generates a constant 1.695 MHz clock during the pause period of the 100% ASK signal.

  • To explore protein folding mechanism, we simulated a folding pathway in a simplified 3×3×3 cubic lattice. In the lattice folding Monte Carlo simulations, each of the 28 possible native packing pairs that exist in the native conformation was used as a conformational restraint. The native packing restraints in the lattice model could be considered as a disulfide linkage restraint in a real protein. The results suggest that proteins denatured with a small disulfide loop can, but not always, fold faster than proteins without any disulfide linkage and than proteins with a larger disulfide loop. The results also suggest that there is a rough correlation between loop size of the native packing restraint and folding time. That is, the order of native residue-residue packing interaction in protein folding is likely dependent on the residue-residue distance in primary sequence. The strength of monomer-monomer pairwise interaction is not important in the determination of the packing order in lattice folding. From the folding simulations of five strong folding lattice sequences, it was also found that the context encoded in the primary sequence, which we do not yet clearly understand, plays more crucial role in the determination of detailed folding kinetics. Our restrained lattice model approach would provide a useful strategy to the future protein folding experiments by suggesting a protein engineering for the fast or slow folding research.

  • Reported are the heat transfer characteristics of a two-phase loop thermosyphon (TLT) with nanofluids consisted of nano-size silver particles and distilled water as the working fluid. The nanofluids used in the present study are dispersed solutions with various amount of silver nanoparticle in distilled water. It is seen from the present study that the heat transfer performance of the test TLT with nanofluids increased as much as about 2 times higher than that of a TLT with pure water as the working fluid based on same heat flux. The study also showed that there was no deterioration of the TLT performance with time, up to a period of 8 days of continuous operation which implies that there was no coagulation of nanoparticles within the working nanofluid during the operation of the test TLT.

  • This paper presents a Bidirectional High-Frequency Link (BHFL) inverter that utilizes the Deadbeat controller. The main features of this topology are the reduced size of the inverter and fewer power switches. On the secondary side of the transformer, the active rectifier employs only two power switches, thus reducing switching losses. Using this configuration, the inverter is capable of carrying a bidirectional power flow. The inverter is controlled by a Deadbeat controller, which consists of the inner current loop, outer voltage loop and a feedforward controller. Additional disturbance decoupling networks are employed to improve the system's robustness towards load variations. A 1-kVA prototype inverter has been constructed and the Deadbeat control algorithm is experimentally verified. The experimental results show that the inverter has high efficiency (91%) with low steady state output voltage total harmonics distortion (1.5%).

  • An automatic mesh generation scheme has been developed for finite element analysis with two-dimensional, quadrilateral elements. The basic strategies of the method are to transform the analysis domain into loops with key nodes and the loops are recursively subdivided into subloops with the use of best split lines. Finally by using the basic loop operators, the meshes are completed. In this algorithm an eight-node loop operator is proposed, which is useful in the area where the change of element size is large and the splitting criteria for subdividing the loops have also been modified to the existing algorithms. Lines, arcs, and cubic spline curves are used to define the boundaries of analysis domain. Sample meshes for several geometries are presented to demonstrate the robustness of the algorithm.

  • The structures of two VBS (viral binding site) RNAs, SL1 and SL2, of Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae vims have been studied by 2D and 3D NMR experiments. VBSs play a crucial role in viral particle binding to the plus strand and packaging of the RNA. The secondary structures of the two VBS RNAs share a common feature of the stem-internal loop-stem-hairpin loop structure although the size of the internal loops of SL1 and SL2 differs. 2D experiments were sufficient for fill assignments of SL1. However, isotope labeling of the sample and multidimensional experiments were required for 28-nucleotide-long SL2 due to the spectral overlap. Several 3D HCCH experiments have accomplished full assignment of SL2 RNA.

  • In this article, new microstrip slow-wave bandpass filters using open loop resonator loaded with inter-digital capacitive fingers is proposed. The filter features not only compact in size, but also exhibits spurious stop-band rejection. Filters of this type with elliptic function and Chebyshev response are demonstrated. There is good agreement between experimental and full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation results.
