The objectives of this study are to develop a real-time drought monitoring and prediction system on the East Asia domain and to evaluate the performance of the system by using past historical drought records. The system is mainly composed of two parts: drought monitoring for providing current drought indices with meteorological and hydrological conditions; drought outlooks for suggesting future drought indices and future hydrometeorological conditions. Both parts represent the drought conditions on the East Asia domain (latitude $21.15{\sim}50.15^{\circ}$, longitude $104.40{\sim}149.65^{\circ}$), Korea domain (latitude $30.40{\sim}43.15^{\circ}$, longitude $118.65{\sim}135.65^{\circ}$) and South Korea domain (latitude $30.40{\sim}43.15^{\circ}$, longitude $118.65{\sim}135.65^{\circ}$), respectively. The observed meteorological data from ASOS (Automated Surface Observing System) and AWS (Automatic Weather System) of KMA (Korean Meteorological Administration) and model-driven hydrological data from LSM (Land Surface model) are used for the real-time drought monitoring, while the monthly and seasonal weather forecast information from UM (Unified Model) of KMA are utilized for drought outlooks. For the evaluation of the system, past historical drought records occurred in Korea are surveyed and are compared with the application results of the system. The results demonstrated that the selected drought indices such as KMA drought index, SPI (3), SPI (6), PDSI, SRI and SSI are reasonable, especially, the performance of SRI and SSI provides higher accuracy that the others.

The purpose of this study is to look into the necessity of strengthening the knowledge base about longitudinal and latitudinal coordinate system in secondary educational curriculum. GPS based location service increases the use of longitude and latitude coordinate system. And many developed countries including USA and Japan have already included this contents in secondary education curriculum. But the secondary school Curriculum of Korea does not include the detailed contents regarding longitudinal and latitudinal coordinate system theory, and as a result the level of Korean students knowledge on this subject is low. The frequency of appearing of the information related to longitudinal and latitudinal coordinate systems in newspaper articles in Korea has been steadily increasing since after 2000. And a lot of articles appearing in newspapers provide the location information in the form of longitude and latitude coordinates, so the readers would be able to apply that. It was found out that the situation in schools is developed good enough for the use of spatial information system based upon the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinate system. The conclusion is that geography education in Korea needs systematical implementation of the knowledge base of longitudinal and latitudinal coordinate system.
For the analysis of geothermal energy utilization in agriculture the relations between soil temperature and geographical variables such as latitude longitude and sea level in Korea were analyzed and the regression equations were suggested among them. The measured soil temperature data for four years in eighteen cities were used to get the soil temperature fitting equation depending on the soil depth and the time of year in each city. The mean correlation coefficient for those data fitting was 0.980. the correlation coefficient of regression analysis for the mean soil temperature($T_{m}$) on the geographical variables such as latitude longitude and height above sea level was 0.958 and those for soil surface temperature amplitude(Tss) and phase constant(tp) were 0.889, 0.835, respectively. The relation between the apparent thermal diffusivity of the soil and the three geographical variables was not significant. The regression equations for the mean soil temperature($T_{m}$) soil surface temperature amplitude(Tss) and phase constant(tp) adopting latitude($X_{1}$) longitude($X_2$) height above sea level($X_3$) were as follows : $T_{m}$=50.049 - $0.849X_1$-$0.03131X_2$-$0.00622X_3$Tss=-6.970 +$0.584X_1$+$0.00530X_2$-$0.00214X_3$tp=70.353 - $1.404X_1$+ $0.02098X_2$+ $0.00312X_3$

Vessel path prediction methods generally predict the latitude and longitude of a future location directly. However, in the case of direct prediction, errors could be large since the possible output range is too broad. In addition, error accumulation could occur since recurrent neural networks-based methods employ previous predicted data to forecast future data. In this paper, we propose a vessel path prediction method that does not directly predict the longitude and latitude. Instead, the proposed method predicts the acceleration of the vessel. Then the acceleration is employed to generate the velocity and direction, and the values decide the longitude and latitude of the future location. In the experiment, we show that the proposed method makes smaller errors than the direct prediction method, while both methods employ the same model.

This study was conducted to determine the possibility of estimating the daily mean temperature for a specific location based on the climatic data collected from the nearby Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS) and Automated Weather System(AWS) to improve the accuracy of the climate data in forage yield prediction model. To perform this study, the annual mean temperature and monthly mean temperature were checked for normality, correlation with location information (Longitude, Latitude, and Altitude) and multiple regression analysis, respectively. The altitude was found to have a continuous effect on the annual mean temperature and the monthly mean temperature, while the latitude was found to have an effect on the monthly mean temperature excluding June. Longitude affected monthly mean temperature in June, July, August, September, October, and November. Based on the above results and years of experience with climate-related research, the daily mean temperature estimation was determined to be possible using longitude, latitude, and altitude. In this study, it is possible to estimate the daily mean temperature using climate data from all over the country, but in order to improve the accuracy of daily mean temperature, climatic data needs to applied to each city and province.
Recently, interest in UAM (Urban Air Mobility, UAM), which can take off and land vertically in the operation of urban air transportation systems, has been increasing. Therefore, various start-up companies are developing related technologies as eco-friendly future transportation with advanced technology. However, studies on ways to increase safety in the operation of UAM are still insignificant. In particular, efforts are more urgent to improve the safety of risks generated in the process of attempting to land in the city center by UAM equipped with autonomous driving. Accordingly, this study proposes a plan to safely land by avoiding dangerous region that interfere when autonomous UAM attempts to land in the city center. To this end, first, the latitude and longitude coordinate values of dangerous objects observed by the sense of the UAM are calculated. Based on this, we proposed to convert the coordinates of the distorted planar image from the 3D image to latitude and longitude and then use the calculated latitude and longitude to compare the pre-learned feature descriptor with the HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradients, HOG) feature descriptor to extract the dangerous Region. Although the dangerous region could not be completely extracted, generally satisfactory results were obtained. Accordingly, the proposed research method reduces the enormous cost of selecting a take-off and landing site for UAM equipped with autonomous driving technology and contribute to basic measures to reduce risk increase safety when attempting to land in complex environments such as urban areas.
The characteristic of East Asian summer monsoon is investigated using 8-year (March 1987-February 1995) - averaged monthly and 5-day mean 1 degree latitude-longitude gridded GMS high-cloud-amount data (HCA). An analysis of these data shows the convective zone (ITCZ) clouds which defined as the percentage of the total grid area covered by clouds with a cloud-top temperature below the 400 hPa-level climatological temperature. The HCA increased clearly over equatorial zone during December and January and 30-40 $^{\circ}$N during May and June. These HCA patterns are coincided with seasonal cycles of summer monsoon which is introduced in historical references. The relationship with the summer monsoon winds as climatological changing of wind direction is analyzed by ECMWF re-analysis 2.5-degree latitude-longitude grid surface data which is calculated with 8-year averaged from January 1987 to January 1995. In addition, the monsoon winds are showed by separated U, V-wind components far manifestation a tendency of onset and retreat data of seasonal monsoon.
The magnetic field measurements from the KitSat-1 and KitSat-2 were tested by comparing with the IGRF model. The magnetic data have been collected by a three-axis fluxgate magnetometer on each satellite at an latitude of 1,325 km and 820 km, respectively. To avoid highly variable magnetic disturbances at the polar region, the field map has been within the limits of 50 degrees in latitude. Each data is averaged over the square of $5{\times}5$ degrees in both latitude and longitude. In these results, the relatively quiet periods were selected and the sampling rate was 30 seconds. It is shown that the results from these measurements are consistent with the IGRF map over the global surface map.
Field-aligned(Birkeland) currents of the High-latitude polar region are to the linkage between the solar wind-magnetosphere system and the ionosphere. The characteristics of field-aligned currents at an attitude of 1300 km have been investigated from the KiSat-A satellite magnetometer data recorded at SatRec form March to May 1993. It is found that the po1arity of both east-west and south-north magnetic components becomes reversed and distorted across the poleward edge. We suggest that these changes May occur rule to the Region 1 and Region 2 currents. It is also suggested that the current time resolution which is about 30 seconds, should be improved to prove gradual polarity changes in the polar region. In addition, it is shown how the observational results depend on the longitude in the high-latitude region.

3-D coordinates that result form GPS survey are not applied directly in korea because they are based on WGS 84 ellipsoid. Thus they must be transformed into longitude, latitude on the Bessel ellipsoid and orthometric height. Transformation parameters must be determined in order to perform the coordinate transformation. Also, coordinate transformation be preformed on longitude, latitude and ellipsoidal height. First estimation of Bessel geoidal height must be accomplished to acquire Bessel ellipsoidal height This paper suggests accuracy of coordinate transformation according to the estimation method of Bessel geoidal height. Also, This paper suggests that Bessel geoidal height have influence on the coordinates transformation.
