  • To obtain a low ground resistance in high resistivity soil or in insufficient place such as downtown, long vertical ground rods are often used. However, if the lightning current or fault current with high frequency flows into the grounding system, the ground impedance is remarkedly increased. This paper presents how the impulse and fault current works on the long. vertical ground rods associated with incoming points. When the test current was injected at the bottom of ground rod, the potential waveform of ground rod includes the oscillation with high frequency.

  • In the ACPF(Advanced spent nuclear fuel Conditioning Process Facility), the spent fuel pellets which are highly radioactive materials are separated with its clad and are fed into the next conditioning process. For this, at the other facility called PIEF(Post Irradiation Examination Facility) a spent fuel rod, 3.5 m long, is cut by 25 cm long which is suitable length fur the decladding process. These rod-cuts are packed into the capsule and are moved to the ACPF. Once the capsule is unloaded in the ACPF, the rod-cut is taken out one-by-one from the capsule and installed on the decladding device. In these processes, the crushed spent fuel pellet can be scattered inside the facilities and thus it contaminate the hot cell. In this paper, we developed the specially designed capsule which prevents the pellets scattering and remarkably reduces the leading and unloading time of the rod-cuts.

  • The characteristics of the external radiation on the surface of the casks for spent nuclear fuel (SNF) storage by dry method are investigated for the case when the spatial distribution of SNF in the basket changes due to the destruction of the fuel rod claddings. The surface areas are determined, where the changes in fluxes of neutrons, produced by 244Cm actinide, and γ-quanta, produced by long-lived isotopes, are maximum in the result of the decrease in the height of the SNF area. Concrete (VSC-24) and metal (SC-21) casks are considered as examples. The procedure of periodic measurement of the dose rate of neutrons or γ-quanta at the specified points of the cask surface is proposed for identifying the fuel rod cladding destruction. Under normal operation, the decrease in the dose rate produced by neutrons as the function of SNF storage duration is determined by the half-life of 244Cm, and for γ-quanta - by the half-lives of long-lived SNF isotopes. Consequently, a stepwise change in the dose rate of neutrons or γ-quanta, detected by the measurements, as compared to the previous one, would indicate the destruction of the fuel rod claddings.

  • Recently, a popularity of the smartphone is on the rise. And also related services are being created. The growth of the smart technology makes advanced equipment for smartphone accessories. Selfie-rod is one of them. Selfie-rod satisfies people who want to take their own picture at long distance. However, the weight of recent selfie-rods is too heavy that has nice functions. So, we have re-designed new selfie-rod that has light-weight body. First, we observed a selfie-rod and check the reason of the selfie-rod's high weight. The new selfie-rod has a shell and inside, there is a space that it can be light-weight. The shell and space make the selfie-rod lighter. In FreeCAD, we designed shell with a rotation function. Finally, we designed light-weight body selfie-rod with FreeCAD. FreeCAD can be used easily for beginners of CAD. FreeCAD is suitable 3D-design tool for era of 3D-printing.

  • As for A rotary wing aircraft, the configuration change about split yaw swaged rod was executed to improve hit treat capability for dealing with a long rod. The purpose of this study was to analyze if or not the quality of the split yaw swaged rod was obtained, and so the flight safety was ensured or not. Buckling analysis, Coupling Thread Strength Analysis, Thermal Stress analysis and Rod Natural Frequency Analysis were executed for structural analysis. The results of the analysis were presented that the split rod had the sufficient margin of safety and so there were no anomalies in the limit load and no failures in the ultimate load. And there were no resonances in result of natural frequency analysis. In conclusion, this study showed that the split yaw swaged rod had structural safety, so flight safety of rotary wing aircraft was secured and there was no problem in aircraft operation. It is certain that the technology of splitting the yaw swage rod will contribute to the operational Safety of the rotary wing aircraft in the future.

  • C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle (C1LM-C2P) fixation is a relatively new technique for atlantoaxial stabilization. Complications from C1LM-C2P fixation have been rarely reported. The authors report unilateral rod migration into the posterior fossa as a rare complication after this posterior C1-C2 stabilization technique. A 23-year-old man suffered severe head trauma and cervical spine injury after vehicle accident. He was unconscious for 2 months and regained consciousness. He underwent C1LM-C2P fixation for stabilization of type II odontoid process fracture described by Harms. The patient recovered without a major complication. Twenty months after operation, brain computed tomogram performed at psychology department for disability evaluation showed rod migration into the right cerebellar hemisphere. The patient had mild occipital headache and dizziness only regarding the misplaced rod. He refused further operation for rod removal. To our knowledge, this complication is the first report regarding rod migration after Harms method. We should be kept in mind the possibility of rod migration, and C1LM-C2P fixation should be performed with meticulous technique and long-term follow-up.

  • This paper presents a systematic approach of measurement, modeling and analysis of grounding system impedance in the field of lightning protection system and intelligent power equipments. The measurement and analysis system of ground impedance is based on a computer aided technique. The magnitude and phase of ground impedance were determined by the novel measurement and analysis using the revised fall-of-potential method. The ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m long are considerably dependent on the frequency. The ground impedance is mainly resistive in the frequency range of 3-20 kHz. At higher frequencies, the reactive components of the ground impedances are no longer negligible and the inductance of the ground rod was found to be the core factor deciding the ground impedance. Although the steady-state ground resistance of the ground rod of 50 m was less than that of the ground rod of 10 m, the ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m over the frequency range of more than 60 kHz were much greater than those of the ground rod of 10 m. Furthermore, the equivalent circuit model based on the measured data was proposed. and the calculated results were in approximately agreement with the measured data.

  • Long and slender body, like a fuel rod, oscillating in axial flow can be unstabilized even by the small cross flow which can be activated by the flow mixer or turbulent generator. It is important to include these effects of flow disturbance in dynamic stability analysis of nuclear fuel rod. This work shows how eigen frequency of a multi-span fuel rod can be changed by the swirl flow, which is discretely generated by a flow mixer. By solving a state-space form of the eigenvalue equation for a multi-span fuel rod system, the critical velocity at which a fuel rod becomes unstable was calculated. Based on the simulation results, we evaluated how stability of a multi-spanned nuclear fuel rod with mixing vanes can be affected by the coolant flow in an operating reactor core.

  • The concrete beam is quickly required to be replaced or strengthened due to decreasing load carrying capacity. Flexural tests on 3.1m long reinforced concrete beams with carbon-fiber rod are reported. The selected experimental variable is the method of the anchoring beam. The effects of this variable in overall behavior are discussed. This paper considered relation of load-displacement and load-strain. The maximum load was increased to the static behavior of the R/C beam strengthened with CFR rod. The results indicated generally that the flexural strength of strengthening beam was increased. It was required a proper anchorage system and can be led the ductility of beams of a carbon-fiber rod.

  • The fuel rod for PWR is supported by the spring of the sapcer grid to maintain its axial location and lateral space between fuel rods to get proper functions during the residence in the reactor. The long exposure duration makes the spring to be relax and loss the spring force that results in a fuel rod rattling which may cause fuel rod failure. Here considering the spring behaviour as a function of burnup the reaction forces of the springs are calculated by the finite element program developed herein to evaluate the integrity of the fuel rod from fretting. The results are compared with previous data and ANSYS for the validation of the program and procedures.
