  • In spite of many projections of TMJ, there are rarely satisfactory projections of TMJ. The author traced and measured the P-A cephalograms, which number is 70 in each male and female, them finding the following results. 1. The long axis of the condyle is 19.80㎜ on the right, and 19.89㎜ on the left in male, and that of 18.65㎜ on the right and 18.10㎜ on the left in female. 2. The intercondylar distance is 119.02㎜ in male, and 108.20㎜ in female, resulting that the intercondylar distance in male is much longer than that in female. 3. The right and left deviation of the midline passing through the center of the intercondylar distance and prosthion is +0.37㎜ in male, +0.64㎜ in female, and its range is from -4.6 to +5.7㎜ in male, and from -3.2 to +6.1㎜ in female, resulting that prosthion nearly coincides with midline. 4. The angle of the intercondylar distance and the long axis (vertical angle) is +5.48' in male, and +6.02' in female, resulting that there is a little difference between male and female and the angle of the right is greater than that of the left in both male and female. 5. The typology of the condyle in sum of male and female is; Right: A type 55 (39.3%), B type 66 (47.1%), C type, 12 (8.6%), D type, 7 (5.0%), E type, 0 (0%) Left: A type, 60 (42.9%), B type, 58 (41.4%), C type, 14 (10.0%), D type, 8 (5.7%), E type, 0 (0%) 6. • To study the thermophysical and neutronic properties of thorium-plutonium fuel, a conceptual design of a hybrid facility consisting of a subcritical Th-Pu reactor core and a source of additional D-D neutrons that places on the axis of the core is proposed. The source of such neutrons is a column of high-temperature plasma held in a long magnetic trap for D-D fusionreactions. This article presents computer simulation results of generation of thermonuclear neutrons in the plasma, facility neutronic properties and the evolution of a fuel nuclide composition in the reactor core. Simulations were performed for an axis-symmetric radially profiled reactor core consisting of zones with various nuclear fuel composition. Such reactor core containing a continuously operating stationary D-D neutron source with a yield intensity of Y = 2 × 1016 neutrons per second can operate as a nuclear hybrid system at its effective coefficient of neutron multiplication 0.95-0.99. Options are proposed for optimizing plasma parameters to increase the neutron yield in order to compensate the effective multiplication factor decreasing and plant power in a long operating cycle (3000-day duration). The obtained simulation results demonstrate the possibility of organizing the stable operation of the proposed hybrid 'fusion-fission' facility.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the resulting root canal angulation and shape change after using various enlarging instruments. The mesial canals (120) of extracted human mandibular 1st and 2nd molars were randomly divided into 6 groups; Control, K-type me, Heliapical me, Canal Master me, sonic and ultrasonic instrumentation group. Vertical angulation of each canal was determined by a straight line through the long axis of canal and another straight line through the apical foramen to intersect at the point where the canal began to leave the long axis of the tooth. By recording and comparing the measured angles of the each set of pre-and postinstrumentation. Then, the roots were sectioned horizontally in the apical, middle, coronal thirds and the canal shapes examined, as was the mesiodistal canal diameter as it relates to the external root surface. The results were as follows: 1. Instrumentation using K-type me group resulted in the highest mean change in angulation ($9.900^{\circ}$) (p < 0.005), while Sonic Air MM 3000 group resulted in the least degree of straightening canals ($8.250^{\circ}$) (p < 0.005). 2. Canal Master file group resulted in the best canal shape at the three levels (P < 0.005). 3. Measured minimal mesial root width produced Heliapical me group at the apical 1/3 level, Sonic Air MM 3000 group at the middle 1/3 level, Heliapical me group at the coronal 1/3 level (P < 0.005). 4. Measured minimal distal root width produced Sonic Air MM 3000 group at the apical 1/3 level (P < 0.05), Heliapical me group at the middle 1/3 level (P < 0.005), Canal Master me group at the coronal 1/3 level (P < 0.005). 5. HeIiapical me group produced more increased canal diameter than any other groups (P < 0.005).

  • We analyzed the current status of the telescope control system (TCS2) of the 1.8 m telescope in Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO), and suggest a new TCS (TCS3) for the long term development of BOAO. The TCS2 was constructed in 1998 to replace the TCS1 which was installed with the telescope itself at the commencement of BOAO. One of the important parts of TCS is PMAC (Programmable Multi-Axis Controller), which is a general-purpose multi-axis motion controller. PMAC provides the direct interactive communication environment permitting users to command the controller directly with simple operations. This makes the setup, debugging, and diagnostics very easy. The TCS2 was operated stable for a long time, but the hardware and TCS computers have been deteriorated and are out of date now. The new TCS3 needs to be constructed based on a modern computer system. And functions such as pre-calculations of telescope limiting position, interworking with virtual observatory tools, and using GUI, etc should be added. Construction of the TCS3 will be a step creating a better observation environment for the Korean astronomical society.

  • In this study, we evaluated the mechanism of long non-coding RNA MIR22 host gene (LncRNA MIR22HG) in osteosarcoma cells. Forty-eight paired osteosarcoma and adjacent tissues samples were collected and the bioinformatic analyses were performed. Target genes and potential binding sites of MIR22HG, microRNA (miR)-629-5p and tet methylcytosine dioxygenase 3 (TET3) were predicted by Starbase and TargetScan V7.2 and confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Cell Counting Kit-8, colony formation and flow cytometry assays were utilized to determine the viability, proliferation and apoptosis of transfected osteosarcoma cells. Pearson's analysis was introduced for the correlation analysis between MIR22HG and miR-629-5p in osteosarcoma tissue. Relative expressions of MIR22HG, miR-629-5p and TET3 were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction or Western blot. MiR-629-5p could competitively bind with and was negatively correlated with MIR22HG, the latter of which was evidenced by the high expression of miR-629-5p and low expression of MIR22HG in osteosarcoma tissues. Overexpressed MIR22HG repressed the viability and proliferation but enhanced apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells, which was reversed by miR-629-5p upregulation. TET3 was the target gene of miR-629-5p, and the promotive effects of upregulated miR-629-5p on the viability and proliferation as well as its repressive effect on apoptosis were abrogated via overexpressed TET3. To sum up, overexpressed MIR22HG inhibits the viability and proliferation of osteosarcoma cells, which was achieved via regulation of the miR-629-5p/TET3 axis.

  • In order to test the recognition ability and accuracy of a target imaging simulator under the irradiation of solar stray light in a laboratory environment, it needs to be fixed on a five-axis turntable during a hardware-in-the-loop simulation test, so the optical system of the simulator should have a long exit pupil distance. This article adopts a secondary imaging method to design a projection optical system suitable for thin-film-transistor liquid crystal displays. The exit pupil distance of the entire optical system is 1,000 mm, and the final optimization results in the 400 nm-850 nm band show that the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the optical system is greater than 0.8 at the cutoff frequency of 72 lp/mm, and the distortion of each field of view of the system is less than 0.04%. Combined with the design results of the optical system, TracePro software was used to model the optical system, and the simulation of the target imaging simulator at the magnitude of -1 to +6 Mv was analyzed and verified. The magnitude error is less than 0.2 Mv, and the irradiance uniformity of the exit pupil surface is greater than 90%, which meets the requirements of the target imaging simulator.

  • In order to demonstrate the value of long-distance radiography, we have studied how distance affects images in chest frontal radiography and compared short-distance and long-distance images in chest lateral radiography. Cardiothoracic ratio(CTR %) of 50 patients with no disease in the chest(10 each at the age of 20~60) were evaluated in Supine AP(100 cm), Sitting AP(100 cm), Sitting AP(180 cm), and Erect PA(180 cm). In lateral radiography, we evaluated and compared left lateral radiography(100 cm and 180 cm) of the patients based on the horizontal maximum of the heart. The average value of CTR(%) were 0.48 in Erect PA(180 cm), 0.52 in Supine AP(100 cm), 0.50 in Sitting AP(100 cm), 0.49 in Sitting AP(180 cm), which were Supine AP(100 cm) > Sitting AP(100 cm) > Sitting AP(180 cm) > Erect PA(180 cm). The average value of Maximum transverse diameter of left of the cardiac(MLD), which showed how much axis of spine was slanted to the left, was 90.67 mm in Erect PA(180 cm), 103.92 mm in Supine AP(100 cm), 93.54 mm in Sitting(100 cm), 89.84 mm in Sitting AP(180 cm), 58.11 mm in the minimum value and 118.79 mm in the maximum value. The average value of Maximum transverse diameter of right side of the cardiac(MRD), which suggested how much axis of spine was slanted to the right, was 47.18 mm in Erect PA(180 cm), 48.12 mm in Supine AP(100 cm), 44.98 mm in Sitting AP(180 cm), and the minimum value 26.84 mm and the maximum value 65.30 mm. There was no standard method to calculate; therefore, the horizontal maximum of the heart was used for lateral radiography. The average value was 121.07 mm in 100 cm and 109.76 mm in 180 cm. Sitting AP(180 cm) among the types was closest to C-PA(180 cm). As a result, during C-AP radiography, long-distance radiography lessened shadow of the heart more than that of short distance, Sitting position more than Supine position.

  • This study surveyed the population ecology of Acheilognathus chankaensis (Pisces: Acheilognathinae) in the vicinity of the Churyeongcheon (Stream) and Seomjingang (River) in Jeonbuk, Korea, from February 2006 to May 2007. The survey found the habits mainly in the slow-flowing waters having sand, mud, and gravel bottoms. Age groups estimated by the standard length-frequency distribution of the population indicated that the one-year-olds were 30-46 mm long, the two-year-olds were 47-58 mm long, the three-year-olds were 59-68 mm long, and the four-year-olds were longer than 69 mm. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) and the ratio of ovipositor length/standard length were the highest in March (♀: 12.9%, ♂: 5.0%) and in April (46.3%), respectively. The ratio of mature egg diameters that were 1.6 mm was highest in May (13.2%). The comprehensive analysis of spawning characteristics showed that the spawning season was from March to June with water temperatures in 11.5-22.5℃, and the sex ratio of female:male was 1:1.13. The fecundity in the ovaries and the number of mature eggs were 318±174.5 (50~583) and 220±139.2 (50~406), respectively. The size of the mature eggs was 2.04±0.110 mm on the long axis and 1.55±0.100 mm on the short axis for the study period. Gut contents of A. chankaensis were mainly phytoplankton such as the genera Fragilaria, Synedra, Navicular, Cymbella (Bacillariophyceae), and Cosmarium (Chlorophyceae).

  • In this paper, a practical quasi-optimal DOA(direction of arrival) estimator is proposed in order to develop a one-axis gimbaled ultrasonic source tracker for mobile robot applications. With help of the gimbal structure, the ultrasonic moving source tracking problem can be simply reduced to the DOA estimation. The DOA estimation is known as one of the representative long-pending nonlinear filtering problems, but the conventional nonlinear filters might be restrictive in many actual situations because it cannot guarantee the reliable performance due to the use of nonlinear signal model. This motivates us to reformulate the DOA estimation problem in the linear robust state estimation setting. Based on the assumption that the received ultrasonic signals are noisy sinusoids satisfying linear prediction property, a linear uncertain measurement model is newly derived. To avoid the DOA estimation performance degradation caused by the stochastic parameter uncertainty contained in the linear measurement model, the recently developed NCRKF (non-conservative robust Kalman filter) scheme [1] is utilized. The proposed linear DOA estimator provides excellent DOA estimation performance and it is suitable for real-time implementation for its linear recursive filter structure. The effectiveness of the suggested DOA estimation scheme is demonstrated through simulations and experiments.
