  • Let {$X_k;k{\in}N^d$} be centered and identically distributed random field which is asymptotically negative dependent in a certain case. In this note we prove that for $p{\alpha}$ > 1 and ${\alpha}$ > ${\frac{1}{2}}$ $E{\mid}X_1{\mid}^p(log^+{\mid}X_1{\mid}^{d-1})$ < ${\infty}$ if and only if ${\sum}_n{\mid}n{\mid}^{p{\alpha}-2}P$($max_{1{\leq}k{\leq}n{\mid}S_k{\mid}}$ > ${\epsilon}{\mid}n{\mid}$) < ${\infty}$ for all ${\epsilon}$ > 0, where log$^+$x = max{1,log x}.

  • The investigation of the effect of solvent structure on the first-order solvolysis of cis-$[Co(en)_2ClNO_2]^+$ion has been extended to water + co-solvent mixtures where the co-solvents are glycerol, ethylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol and t-butyl alcohol. Rates of solvolysis have been evaluated by spectrophotometric method at temperature 25∼30$^{\circ}$C. The polarity of solvent has influence on the variation of rate constant. The non-linear plot of the rate constant in log scale versus $\frac{D-1}{2D+1}$ implies that change in solvent structure with composition plays an important role in determining the variation of rate constant. The linearity of the plot of the rate constant in log scale versus the Grundwald-Winstein Y factor confirms that the solvolysis is an Id-type process with considerable extension of the metal chloride bond in the transition state. In the Kivinen equation the slope of the plot of log k versus $log(H_2O)$ suggests that the solvolysis is also an Id-type process. The application of free energy cycle shows that the effect of solvent structure is greater in the transition state than in the initial state.

  • This paper presents applications of the log-linear ROCOF(rate-of-occurrence-of-failure) and the Weibull ROCOF to model the failure rate of individual cast iron pipes in a water distribution system and provides a method of estimating the economically optimal replacement time of the pipes using the 'modified time-scale'. The performance of the two ROCOFs is examined using the maximized log-likelihood estimates of the ROCOFs for the two types of failure data: 'failure-time data' and 'failure-number data'. The optimal replacement time equations for the two models are developed by applying the 'modified time-scale' to ensure the numerical convergence of the estimated values of the model parameters. The methodology is applied to the case study water distribution cast iron pipes and it is found that the log-linear ROCOF has better modeling capability than the Weibull ROCOF when the 'failure-time data' is used. Furthermore, the 'failure-time data' is determined to be more appropriate for both ROCOFs compared to the 'failure-number data' in terms of the ROCOF modeling performances for the water mains under study, implying that recording each failure time results in better modeling of the failure rate than recording failure numbers in some time intervals.

  • This paper proposes some diagnostics procedures for the skew-t linear regression model with censored response. The skew-t distribution is an attractive family of asymmetrical heavy-tailed densities that includes the normal, skew-normal and student's-t distributions as special cases. Inspired by the power and wide applicability of the EM-type algorithm, local and global influence analysis, based on the conditional expectation of the complete-data log-likelihood function are developed, following Zhu and Lee's approach. For the local influence analysis, four specific perturbation schemes are discussed. Two real data sets, from education and economics, which are right and left censoring, respectively, are analyzed in order to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed methodology.

  • This study was done to analyze the sound distortion, before and after insertion of the palatal palates. For this study, 4 healthy subjects (3 males and 1 female, each 24-year-old), who were born in Seoul were recruited from K university, and 3 type palatal plates were fabricated, each palatal thickness being 1.0mm, 2.5mm, dentoalveolar portion 2.5mm and elsewhere 1.0mm, named B,C,D-type repectively, and informants's sounds of /사(sa), 서(se), 소(so), 수(su), 스($s\.{+}$), 시(si)/ were recorded, without plate, and with palatal plates of different types, in succession. A series of analysis were adminstered through a 16 Bit IBM PC/AT using linear combination methods. These experiments were analyzed by the Cepstrum (Weighted and Euclidian), Log Area Ratio, Linear prediction correlation methods The findings led to the following conclusions : 1. It was confirmed that the same consonant, /ㅅ(s)/, variously distorted by the following vowel. 2. By and large, 시($s\.{+}$) was the most distorted in all conditions, and (sa), 소(so) were the least distorted in each condition. 3. There were no persistant correlation of the palatal plate types, and sound distortions of each informant were diverse with no regularities. 4. There were persistent correaltion to the Cepstrum (Weighted, Euclidian), Log Area Ratio. However, Linear prediction correlation has a different alteration pattern.

  • In order to determine creep stress intensity limit of high-temperature components, the usefulness of the creep work and time equation, defined as W$\_$c/t$\^$p/ = B(where W$\_$c/ = $\sigma$$\varepsilon$ is the total creep work done during creep, and p and B are constants), was investigated using the experimental data. For this Purpose, the creep tests for generating 1.0% strain for commercial type i16 stainless steel were conducted with different stresses; 160 MPa, 150 MPa, 145 MPa, 140 MPa and 135 MPa at 593$^{\circ}C$. The plots of log W$\_$c/ - log t showed a good linear relation up to 10$\^$5/ hr, and the results of the creep work-time relation for p, B and stress intensity values showed good agreement to those of isochronous stress-strain curves (ISSC) presented in ASME BPV NH. The relation can be simply obtained with only several short-term 1% strain data without ISSC which can be obtained by long-term creep data. Particularly, this relation is useful in estimating stress intensity limit for new and emerging class of high-temperature creeping materials.

  • In order to predict stress intensity limit of high-temperature creep structures, creep work-time equation, defined as $W_ct^P=B$, was used, and the results of the equation were compared with isochronous stress-strain curve (ISSC) ones of ASME BPV NH Code. For this purpose, the creep strain tests with. time variations for commercial type 316 stainless steel were conducted with different stresses; 160 MPa, 150 MPa, 145 MPa, 140 MPa and 135 MPa at $593^{\circ}C$. The results of log $W_c$ and log t plots showed a good linear relation up to $10^5$ hr. The constants p, B and stress intensity limit values showed comparatively good agreement to those of ASME NH ISSC. It is believed that the relation can be simply obtained with only several short-term 1% strain data without ISSC which can be obtained by long-term creep data.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to estimate multi-trait genetic parameters for somatic cell score (SCS), milk yield and type traits in Nigerian Dwarf (ND) goats from the United States. Methods: Data from 1,041 ND goats in the United States with kiddings in 95 herds were used to estimate multi-trait genetic parameters for SCS, milk (MILK), fat (FAT), and protein (PROT) yields, and 14 type traits. An 18-trait mixed linear animal model for lactation mean SCS (Log2), MILK, FAT, PROT, and 14 type traits was applied. A factor analytic approach (FA1) in ASReml software was used to obtain convergence. Results: Averages for SCS were low (2.85±1.29 Log2), and were 314±110.6, 20.9±7.4, and 14±4.9 kg, respectively, for MILK, FAT, and PROT. Heritabilities for SCS, MILK, FAT, and PROT were 0.32, 0.16, 0.16, and 0.10, respectively. The highest heritabilities for type traits were for stature (0.72), teat diameter (0.49), and rump width (0.48), and the lowest estimates were for dairyness (0.003) and medial suspensory ligament (0.03). Genetic correlations of SCS with MILK, FAT, and PROT were positive but low (0.25, 0.18, and 0.23, respectively). Genetic and phenotypic correlations between MILK, FAT, and PROT were high and positive (≥0.66). Absolute values of genetic correlations involving SCS with type traits were generally low or no different from zero. Most of the phenotypic correlations involving SCS with type traits were low. No serious unfavorable genetic correlations between milk yield traits and SCS or between milk yield traits or SCS and type traits were found. Conclusion: Genetic variation exists in the ND breed for most studied traits. The development of selection programs based on these estimates may help accelerate favorable multi-trait genetic changes in this breed.

  • Consider the nonparametric regression model $Y_{ni}\;=\;g(x_{ni})+{\epsilon}_{ni}$ ($1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;n$), where g($\cdot$) is an unknown regression function, $x_{ni}$ are known fixed design points, and the correlated errors {${\epsilon}_{ni}$, $1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;n$} have the same distribution as {$V_i$, $1\;{\leq}\;i\;{\leq}\;n$}, here $V_t\;=\;{\sum}^{\infty}_{j=-{\infty}}\;{\psi}_je_{t-j}$ with ${\sum}^{\infty}_{j=-{\infty}}\;|{\psi}_j|$ < $\infty$ and {$e_t$} are negatively associated random variables. Under appropriate conditions, we derive a Berry-Esseen type bound for the estimator of g($\cdot$). As corollary, by choice of the weights, the Berry-Esseen type bound can attain O($n^{-1/4}({\log}\;n)^{3/4}$).

  • Kinetic studies of the reactions of O,O-dimethyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates with X-benzylamines have been carried out in dimethyl sulfoxide at $85.0^{\circ}C$. The Hammett (log $k_2$ vs ${\sigma}_X$) and Br$\ddot{o}$nsted [log $k_2$ vs $pK_a$(X)] plots for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles are discrete with a break region between 4-Me and H, while the Hammett plots (log $k_2$ vs ${\sigma}_Z$) for substituent Z variations in the leaving groups are linear. The sign of the cross-interaction constant (${\rho}_{XZ}$) is positive for both the strongly and weakly basic nucleophiles. Greater magnitude of ${\rho}_{XZ}$ (= 2.54) value is observed with the weakly basic nucleophiles compared to with the strongly basic nucleophiles (${\rho}_{XZ}$ = 0.17). The deuterium kinetic isotope effects ($k_H/k_D$) involving deuterated benzylamines [$XC_6H_4CH_2ND_2$] are primary normal ($k_H/k_D$ > 1). The proposed mechanism is a stepwise with a rate-limiting leaving group expulsion from the intermediate involving a frontside nucleophilic attack with a hydrogen bonded, four-center-type transition state for both the strongly and weakly basic nucleophiles.
