  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between health locus of control, exercise self-efficacy and exercise benefits / barriers of female college students. Methods: Convenient sampling was used to recruit participants from a University based in Pusan. Data were collected from October 15 to December 20, 2007, and participants were 322 students. The questionnaires administered consisted of Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (HLOC) Scales, Exercise Self-efficacy Scale, and Exercise Benefits / Barriers Scale. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean scores for the HLOC among female students was HLOC-I: 22.24, HLOC-P: 16.82, HLOC-C: 15.16. The mean scores were exercise self-efficacy: 37.45, exercise benefit: 2.96, and exercise barriers: 2.89. The 'double external' response pattern of HLOC was the largest group in female students with significant difference in exercise benefit between response patterns of HLOC. There were significant correlations between HLOC-I, exercise self-efficacy, and exercise benefit/barriers. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that tailored health management program by pattern of HLOC should be developed to promote the exercise behavior and enhance the exercise self-efficacy and benefit for female students.

And It is estimated high grief statically among the group of breast-feeding, anticipating the baby, no ceremony for separation. But the group exposing their grief by self or to others felt low grief. Locus of control was measured by Rotter's The Internal-External Scale and body cathexis by Secord and Jourard's Body Cathexis Scale. Two aspects of clothing behavior were assessed with Lee's questionnaires dealing with status symbol and clothing satisfaction. Clothing Acceptance I was determined with questionnaires designed to measure the acceptance of color and casual wear and Clothing Acceptance II by line drawings of clothing representing formal type, informal type, and new mode type designed to measure the acceptance of business suits. The questionnaires in this study were administered to a sample of men (between 20 to more than 60 years of age) in Seoul. The data from 303 respondents were analyzed. The results were: 1) Locus of control was not related to Clothing Acceptance I(acceptance of color and casual wear), but positively related to Clothing Acceptance II(acceptance of business suit), that is, the persons having wider latitudes of acceptance in business suits were internally controlled in locus of control. 2) Locus of control was negatively related to status symbol, that is, the persons having higher concepts in status symbol were externally controlled in locus of control. 3) Body cathexis was positively related to clothing satisfaction, that is, the persons having higher satisfaction toward their clothing were more satisfied with their body.

  • 'Control of Locus of Reinforcement(LOCR)' is considered one of the main important factors on responsible environmental behaviors(REB). It is defined as 'an individual's perception of his or her ability to bring about change through his or her behavior'. This phychological construct is divided in two, external locus and internal locus. Internal locus of reinforcement is important as predictor for REB. Lately, 'The Environmental Action Internal Control Index:EAICI' was developed. It is a valid and reliable instrument to measure relationships of two variables. The purposes of this study were to analyse the orientation of LOCR in high school students and relations with LOCR to REB. By the results, EAICI scores of total students, males, females are 99.83, 95.10, 104.56, respectively. LOCR of females was stronger and more internal than one of males. The item scores for behaviors that reduce the amount of household trash by reusing and recycling and convince someone to do this are 4.31, 4.05, respectively. The item scores for behaviors that convince someone to sign a petition regarding on environmental issues, convince someone to reuse envelopes by putting a label over the old address and convince someone to keep car tires properly inflated are 3.09, 3.09, 3.04, respectively. It shows that EAICI scores are dependent upon the degree of the chances and experiences to meet the various environmental events.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the differences of health locus of control and treatment compliance according to general characteristics and severity in acute coronary syndrome(ACS) patients after percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with a convenient sample of 103 ACS patients. The dependent variables were measured by the scales for the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control and the Treatment Compliance. The collected data were analyzed by the Fisher's exact test, Chi-square and t-tests, and ANOVA using the SPSS program. Results: Pre-interventional severity was significantly different between men and women. In terms of internal health locus of control, there was a significant difference according to gender, educational status, economic status, and severity. The level of medication compliance was the lowest among the sub-scales of treatment compliance. Conclusion: These findings suggest that clinical nurses should evaluate the general characteristics and severity of the patients with ACS for providing tailored nursing interventions.

  • It could be suggested that adult orthodontic patients may have peculiar psychological features as well as different periodontal tissue conditions compared with adolescent patients. The aims of the present investigation were to explore the relationships between psychological characteristics and treatment compliance of patient to orthodontist and assistants (dental hygienists). Two types of locus of control data (I-score, Internal locus of control score ; E-score, External locus of control score) were obtained for 312 adult patients and 765 adolescents and then analyzed in relation to their sex and treatment compliance. In general, orthodontic patients showed higher I-score trends than ordinary persons and adult patients manifested higher I-score than adolescent patients. Unlike adult patients, female adolescent patients showed higher I-score than male adolescent patients. Adult patients with higher E-score and adolescent patients with higher I-score than their counter-part subgroup were classified into more compliant group. Orthodontist performed more generous decision about patients' compliance than assistants. The results of this study also suggest that psychological survey in orthodontic field could comprise useful diagnostic criteria.
