  • The purpose of this study is as follows: First, we restore the optimal topographical environment of the Bronze Age settlements in the Yongdu Stream and its surrounding area in Asan City. Second, we reveal the relative importance of the topographical factors that the Bronze Age people considered when selecting their dwelling locations. We compared and analyzed topographical factors (ridge scale, ridge direction, slope direction of the ridge, micro-landform of the ridge, position of the ridge) from the ridge's environmental perspective of 123 Bronze Age dwellings (hereinafter referred to as dwellings) found in the survey area for that purpose. The results are as follows: First, from a macro perspective, the optimal topographical environment for the location of the Bronze Age settlement is the second ridge that have the E-W direction. And from a micro perspective, it is the southeast direction slope of the Crest slope at the summit. Second, it appears that the Bronze Age people have taken important consideration in determining the location of their dwelling in the following order: ① position (eg. summit), ② micro-landform (eg. Crest slope, Upper slope), ③ slope direction (eg. southward, South, Southeast), ④ scale (eg. sub-ridge, secondary, tertiary), ⑤ direction (eg. E-W, NNE-SSE).

  • The purpose of this study is to find the factors affecting the location of a Starbucks coffee shop by using multiple regression analysis. This study is based on location theory and the data for this analysis was collected from 522 retail real estate leases in Seoul. The results of the study are as follows. First, the most important factors affecting the location of a Starbucks coffee shop are monthly rent, deposit money, and goodwill value. Second, the number of firms & employees, local economic base, location characteristics, goodwill value, the deposit money, and monthly rents affect on the location of a Starbucks coffee shop in Seoul. Third, the result shows that deposit money, monthly rents, goodwill value, and numbers of business firms are important in the process of selecting the coffee shop location.

  • Due to changes in the agricultural market environment and both overseas and domestic farming conditions, uncertainties in agricultural production and management are becoming greater. Hence, there is a stronger need for farmers to choose crops in the optimal condition. This research aims to introduce the result and process of developing a decision support system for selecting crops, aimed to assist farmers in selecting the optimal crops most suitable in the given situation. There are basically three main factors to consider in the decision-making process for farmers when selecting a crop to introduce to their lands. First of all, one must consider how much profit crop A will produce when it is cultivated. Secondly, one must consider which crop to cultivate in order to earn a certain amount of profit. Thirdly, one must consider what is the best way to maximize Farm A's business profit. For instance, a farm may have land as its resource, and one must research which location, type of crop, level of technology, and so forth, to maximize profit. This research creates a database of the profitability of a total of 180 crop types by analyzing Rural Development Administration's survey of agricultural products income of 115 crop types, small land profitability index survey of 53 crop types, and Statistics Korea's survey of production costs of 12 crop types. Furthermore, this research presents the result and developmental process of a web-based crop introduction decision support system that provides overseas cases of new crop introduction support programs, as well as databases of outstanding business success cases of each crop type researched by agricultural institutions.

  • A boundary control method that controls interior state by actively controlling the boundary conditions in boundary value problems is proposed for the vibration control of flexible beam by using piezoelectric actuators. The governing equations are derived based on the Euler beam theory and the reduced order model is obtained by modal truncation. The spillover effects caused by the uncontrolled high frequency modes are analyzed and the method selecting a suitable sensor location is also proposed. The lag compensator in digital form is realized by using a microcomputer and its peripheral devices. The efficiency of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated experimentally and compared with the simulation results.

  • In this study, a spatial location-allocation model of center villages (SLAMCV) was developed for selecting spatial center villages and allocating their rear villages. In SLAMCV, rural space was considered as a network with villages for nodes and roads for connecting lines. For quantification of residents’ accessibilities in the network, a disutility index (DUI) was developed and used, which is dependent upon travelling distance between the center and its hinter villages, design vehicle speed in connecting road and population of hinter villages. SLAMCV was verified to Christaller’s hexagonal hierachical settlement system to test the theoretical reasonability and computing algorithm of the model.

  • This study shows that the SWOT is efficient to select a factor which is valuable as worth consideration when a decision making is necessary. Such processing of information is able to present the policy for the development of bio-industry in northern area of Kyonggi province, and create the pragmatic value and effect in carrying out the policy. The object of this study is to survey present conditions, to analyze the development of bio-industry in northern area of Kyonggi province by the decision making method of the SWOT model, to suggest a plan for the prospect of continued development field and the location of industry, and to extract fundamental data for establishment of annual action and investment plan which can develop bio-industry.

  • In this paper, a Location Information-based Gradient Routing (LIGR) algorithm is proposed for setting up routing path based on physical location information of sensor nodes in wireless ad-hoc networks. LIGR algorithm reduces the unnecessary data transmission time, route search time, and propagation delay time of packet by determining the transmission direction and search range through the gradient from the source node to sink node using the physical location information. In addition, the low battery nodes are supposed to have the second or third priority in case of forwarding node selection, which reduces the possibility of selecting the low battery nodes. As a result, the low battery node functions as host node rather than router in the wireless sensor networks. The LIGR protocol performed better than the Logical Grid Routing (LGR) protocol in the average receiving rate, delay time, the average residual energy, and the network processing ratio.

  • Due to various environmental changes, the current location of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services needs to be changed to provide an appropriate environment and ecosystem for agricultural research and the efficient provision of public services. Accordingly, this study proposes a standard for selecting the new location. First, the location theory for the transfer of public facilities is investigated, and candidate filtration methods considered for the location selection. The candidate filtration methods include a component inspection, branch shape analysis, and mixed analysis. This study uses a component inspection, where the component criteria include the economic feasibility and ease of development, accessibility and convenience, agricultural conditions, soil conditions, connectivity, fairness, and human resource-richness of the region.

  • Currently, there are a total of 68 emergency rooms based on Seoul, South Korea, and there is a portal site that allows you to inquire the location of the emergency room, but it is difficult to use in an actual emergency situation because it consists of selecting a gu and a self-governing dong. In addition, it may be more efficient to go to the emergency room directly because you may miss the golden time necessary for survival in a situation where you call 119 and wait for the rescue team. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a service that can quickly search the location of the emergency room based on a specific location through various functions supported by MongoDB. After downloading emergency room location data based on Seoul Metropolitan City, storing it in MongoDB, processing the data through various processing techniques, and applying a spatial index, you can query the emergency room based on distance from a specific location in real time.

  • We use the properties of competitive location equilibrium to study the relationship between the demand for education and the choice of primary residential location. Consumers can work and live in a comparatively high wage place where there are few education opportunities, or live in a place where education is available and commute to work. If education and employment are each location-specific, there are pooling equilibria in which consumers locate according to their preference for education. In general, the stronger the taste for education, the greater the attraction of living close to the education site and the lower the demand for other goods, including housing. Exploring the effects of the model parameters on the spatial distribution of consumers, we find that a higher frequency of trips taken to the education site, a shorter distance between the work place and the education site, or a greater out-of-pocket education cost each leads to a wider range of consumer types selecting to reside at the education location. We also find that a higher wage lowers the range of consumers who select to live near the education site.
