As rice originates from tropical regions, low temperature stress during the germination stage in temperate regions leads to serious problems inhibiting germination and seedling establishment. Identifying and characterizing quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for low-temperature germination (LTG) resistance help accelerate the development of rice cultivars with LTG tolerance. In this study, we identified QTLs for LTG tolerance (qLTG5, qLTG9) and germination coefficient of velocity under optimal conditions (OGCV) (qOGCV7, qOGCV9) using 129 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from the cross between a low-temperature sensitive line Milyang23 and a low-temperature tolerant variety Gihobyeo. qLTG9 and qOGCV9 were detected at the same location on chromosome 9. At both LTG QTLs (qLTG5 and qLTG9), the alleles for LTG tolerance were contributed by the japonica variety Gihobyeo. At qOGCV7 and qOGCV9, the alleles for low temperature tolerance were derived from Milyang23 and Gihobyeo, respectively. The RILs with desirable alleles at two or more QTLs, i.e., GroupVII: qLTG5+qLTG9 (qOGCV9) and GroupVIII: qLTG5+qOGCV7+qLTG9 (qOGCV9), showed stable tolerance under low-temperature stress. Our results are expected to contribute to the improvement of tolerance to low-temperature and anaerobic stress in japonica rice, which would lead to the wide adoption of direct-seeding practices.
This paper described the analysis result on heaving of soft ground with DCM column type, based on the results of laboratory model tests on the soft ground with DCM column. The heave characteristics of the soft ground were evaluated according to the application of DCM column in soft ground. The results showed that the heaving of soft ground without DCM column occurred rapidly when the lateral deformation of soft ground increased significantly under the 4th load step condition. In addition, the heaving of soft ground in final load step caused tensile failure of the ground surface. The maximum heaving of the soft ground with the DCM column occurred in the final load step, and the heaving quantity decreased in the order of pile, wall, and grid type. Especially, the soft ground with DCM of grid type effectively resisted ground heaving, even if it was extremely failure in the bottom ground of embankment. The results of the maximum heaving according to the measurement point showed that the heaving of the soft ground with DCM of grid type was 3.1% and 1.6% compared to that of the pile and wall type at the location of LVDT-1, and the heaving of the LVDT-2 position was 1.0% and 2.1%, respectively.

The purpose of this study is to present the applicability to the effective survey into the actual condition of lands such as analysis of occupied location of government owned lands based on orthoimages created from aerial photographs taken by UAV. The boundary point coordinates and areas of the parcels were observed respectively by VRS-GNSS surveying and orthoimages for each land use of two categories of land, i.e. building site and farmland. As a result of comparing boundary point coordinates and areas extracted from UAV orthoimages with VRS-GNSS surveying data which were used as reference data, the RMS error of the coordinates for the boundary points was ±0.074m for both X and Y in the building site, and ±0.150m and ±0.127m for the X and Y respectively in the farmland. The positional error of the boundary point was 1.7~ 2 times higher in the farmland than in the building site where the boundary points were relatively clear. The RMS error of ±8.964㎡ of areas in the farmland was 4.7 times higher than that of ±1.898㎡ of areas in the building site. The area errors of all 22 parcels measured from the orthoimage were found to be within the allowed error range, indicating that it is feasible to apply the orthoimage generated by UAV to survey of government owned lands in terms of accuracy.

Purpose: When patients with early gastric cancer (EGC) undergo non-curative endoscopic submucosal dissection requiring gastrectomy (NC-ESD-RG), additional medical resources and expenses are required for surgery. To reduce this burden, predictive model for NC-ESD-RG is required. Materials and Methods: Data from 2,997 patients undergoing ESD for 3,127 forceps biopsy-proven differentiated-type EGCs (2,345 and 782 in training and validation sets, respectively) were reviewed. Using the training set, the logistic stepwise regression analysis determined the independent predictors of NC-ESD-RG (NC-ESD other than cases with lateral resection margin involvement or piecemeal resection as the only non-curative factor). Using these predictors, a risk-scoring system for predicting NC-ESD-RG was developed. Performance of the predictive model was examined internally with the validation set. Results: Rate of NC-ESD-RG was 17.3%. Independent pre-ESD predictors for NC-ESD-RG included moderately differentiated or papillary EGC, large tumor size, proximal tumor location, lesion at greater curvature, elevated or depressed morphology, and presence of ulcers. A risk-score was assigned to each predictor of NC-ESD-RG. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for predicting NC-ESD-RG was 0.672 in both training and validation sets. A risk-score of 5 points was the optimal cut-off value for predicting NC-ESD-RG, and the overall accuracy was 72.7%. As the total risk score increased, the predicted risk for NC-ESD-RG increased from 3.8% to 72.6%. Conclusions: We developed and validated a risk-scoring system for predicting NC-ESD-RG based on pre-ESD variables. Our risk-scoring system can facilitate informed consent and decision-making for preoperative treatment selection between ESD and surgery in patients with EGC.

This paper attempted to examine the value of private house garden as a historical garden among local cultural heritages remaining in Chungcheong-do Province. To this end, the following conclusions were drawn through the framework of value analysis in which the contents of Ji Cheng's Yuanye of China, Tachibana Toshitsuna's Sakuteiki in Japan, and HISTORIC GARDENS THE FLORENCE CHARTER 1981 were applied to target sites. First, local cultural heritage belong to unregistered cultural heritage, and a total of 616 local cultural heritages in Chungcheong-do Province were identified, and Cheongju City possesses the largest number of local cultural heritages. Most of the local cultural heritages are distributed in ancient capital or adjacent to it, and five of the local heritages are related to historical garden. Second, the target sites were old houses constructed during the Joseon Dynasty with a long history, and although there were few changes in spatial division, the scale of some gardens and outer yard spaces was reduced due to urban planning, etc. Third, the target site is Sangjihapui(相地合宜) and Inchacheui(因借體宜) in location and space division, so the space is divided according to the surrounding terrain and the landscape is naturally drawn to construct a garden. Fourth, the garden of the target site has a structural value of a garden that is Jeongihapui(精而合宜) and Gyoideukche(巧而得體) as it is subtle and naturally constructed with the garden by grasping the surrounding terrain. Fifth, for the continuous preservation of historical garden, it is necessary to strengthen the already enacted local cultural heritage ordinance, and to establish a documentary project for each spatial component and a plan for climate change.

While the hydrogen refueling station is rapidly expanded and installed, the safety inspection of the hydrogen pressure vessel in the station should be very important. Of these, according to ASME, hydrogen embrittlement tests must be performed for hydrogen vessel that store hydrogen above a certain pressure. The main test method for hydrogen embrittlement inspection is to carry out fracture tests and fatigue fracture tests in a high pressure hydrogen atmosphere, which allows the durability limit of the pressure vessel to be measured and the endurable limit to be determined in the hydrogen atmosphere. In detail, the critical crack depth can be calculated by the stress intensity factor(K), and the service life can be determined by da/dN (fatigue growth rate). API579-1/ ASME FFS-1 part 9 exemplifies the calculation method according to the mode of crack-like flaws, but for various shapes such as plates and cylinders, there are about 55 modes according to the shape and location of the crack. Due to the fairly complex formula, it is not easily accessible. In this study, we will show you how to calculate fracture mechanics numerically via Excel and VBA. In addition, this was applied to analyze the effects of the thickness and inner diameter of the pressure vessel on the service life.

Recent climate change has caused abnormal weather phenomena all over the world and a lot of damage in many fields of society. Particularly, a lot of recent damages were due to extreme precipitation, such as torrential downpour or drought. The objective of this study was to analyze the temporal and spatial changes in the precipitation pattern in South Korea. To achieve this objective, this study selected some of the precipitation indices suggested in previous studies to compare the temporal characteristics of precipitation induced by climate change. This study selected ten ASOS observatories of the Korea Meteorological Administration to understand the change over time for each location with considering regional distribution. This study also collected daily cumulative precipitation from 1951 to 2020 for each point. Additionally, this study generated high-resolution national daily precipitation distribution maps using an orographic precipitation model from 1981 to 2020 and analyzed them. Temporal analysis showed that although annual cumulative precipitation revealed an increasing trend from the past to the present. The number of precipitation days showed a decreasing trend at most observation points, but the number of torrential downpour days revealed an increasing trend. Spatially, the number of precipitation days and the number of torrential downpour days decreased in many areas over time, and this pattern was prominent in the central region. The precipitation pattern of South Korea can be summarized as the fewer precipitation days and larger daily precipitation over time.
This paper estimates the demand of newly married couples for public rental housing in Chungnam. This research attempts to overcome data limitations by linking survey data with administrative data for analysis. First, the results of a binary logit model that analyzes newly married couples' intention to move into public rental housing, based on the Chungnam Social Survey 2019, reveal that residential location, educational level, housing type, and tenure type have a statistically significant effect. By combining the estimated coefficients with another dataset, the statistics of newly married couples for administration purposes acquired from Statistics Korea, this research estimates the demand for public rental housing among the newly married couples in Chungnam. The estimation results show that the total demand for public rental housing in Chungnam is 11,424 units among 43,705 newly married couples. The total demand of 21,685 newly married couples who occupy rental housing is estimated to be 9,436 units. The policy for providing public rental housing to newly married couples in Chungnam aims to increase their fertility rates. Hence, further research should be followed up to evaluate the effect of the supply of public rental housing on fertility rates. Also, a research method should be developed to control for possible endogeneity between the demand for public rental housing and childbirths.
Smart sewage treatment plant means creating a safe and clean water environment by establishing an ICT-based real-time monitoring, remote control management and intelligent system for the entire sewage treatment process. The core technology of such a smart sewage treatment plant can be operation control technology using measuring instruments. This research team analyzed and suggested the operation control technologies necessary for the establishment of the intelligent business by referring to the intelligent research projects of the sewage treatment plant in progress in Korea. As a result of the analysis, a total of six removal technologies were presented, including control by scale, reflow water control, linked treated water control, chemical quantity control, winter operation control, and total organic carbon control. By size, standards that can be classified into small and medium-sized large-scale are presented, and in the case of reflow water control, the location of water quality and flow sensors capable of managing reflow water is suggested. In the case of the linked treated water control, the influence and control points of the linked treated water on the sewage treatment plant were presented, and in the case of the chemical injection volume control, a system capable of optimizing the amount of chemical injection according to the introduction of an intelligent sewage treatment plant was presented. In the case of winter operation, the sensors and pumps to be controlled are suggested when considering the decrease in nitrification due to the decrease in water temperature. In the case of total organic carbon control, an interlocking system considering the total amount of pollution in the future was proposed. These operation control scenarios are expected to be used as basic data to be used in intelligent sewage treatment algorithms and scenarios in the future.
Animals exhibit certain behaviors and movement patterns as they react to their internal needs, external stimuli, and surrounding environments. They have a bounded range in which they mostly spend their time, and it is referred to as a home range. Based on the fact that the home range is a critical area for the survival and preservation of species, there has been a growing body of research on developing more precise home range estimation methods to use the estimated ranges as a ground for establishing an effective conservation policy since the early 1940s. Recent rapid advancements in telemetry technology that resulted in the presence of autocorrelation between locations with short time intervals revealed the limitations of the existing estimators. Many novel estimators have been developed to compensate for it by incorporating autocorrelation in calculating home ranges. However, studies on the animal home range are still in their early stage in Korea, and newly developed methodologies have not yet been adopted. Therefore, this study aims to introduce the foreign home range estimation methods and foster domestic research activities on home ranges. Firstly, we compared and contemplated seven estimators by categorizing them into geometrical and statistical methodologies and then divided them into estimators that assume independent observations and those that consider autocorrelation in each category. After that, the home ranges of black-tailed gulls (Larus crassirostris) were calculated using GPS tracking data for the month of June and derived home range estimators by applying the methodology introduced in this study. We analyzed and compared the results to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method. Lastly, we proposed a guideline that can help researchers choose an appropriate estimator for home range calculation based on the animal location data characteristics and analysis purpose.
