  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the change trajectory and latent class types of self-esteem in first to fourth grade elementary school students. For the purpose, the Korean Children's Panel data were analyzed using potential growth model and the growth mixture model. As the results, the linear change model was selected as the most appropriate model. The change trajectory was found to increase slightly as the grade increased. In addition, four latent class groups were derived through: 'high level-maintenance,' 'low level-increase,' 'high level-decrease,' and 'low level-maintenance.' Most children were in the 'high level-maintenance' group, followed by 'high level-decrease,' 'low level-increase,' and 'low level-maintenance' groups. Therefore, based on the results of the study, we suggest that educational institutions and local communities pay attention to trends in elementary school students' self-esteem and provide appropriate support for students in each class.

  • Developing countries and small local governments face financial constraints, limiting the adoption of their own bus information systems. However, despite poor social infrastructure and low income levels, developing countries have a high smartphone penetration rate, and the distribution and usage of online content and social media are widespread. Smartphones, equipped with GPS sensors, cameras, and other location-based information collection capabilities, can replace expensive on-site terminals. This study aims to replace expensive on-site terminals with smartphones, develop a center system based on cloud servers, and establish an extensible Open BIS (Bus Information System) service and platform that can be applied anywhere. The goal is to formulate a business model in the process.

  • When situated in green landscapes, water bodies play a crucial role in positively influencing mood and mental health, yet research on the cognitive mechanisms underlying these therapeutic effects is lacking. This study is intended to examine differences in brain function among adult males exposed to forest landscapes with or without water bodies. The wooded landscapes included views of a waterfall, a valley, and a forest without water. The control group was exposed to a local urban landscape. Twelve adult males participated in a field experiment in which prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity was measured using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). In the experiment, participants engaged in low-intensity walking in three forested areas with similar vegetation and climatic conditions. Participants showed significant differences in left PFC activity depending on whether they were in the three forested landscapes or in the control landscape (P < 0.01). An analysis of variance (ANOVA) confirmed that significantly lower left PFC activity was recorded in the wooded landscape containing a water view . Notably, the lowest PFC values recorded in the landscape with a waterfall view suggest that landscapes with dynamic water flow may be associated with greater therapeutic benefits in terms of PFC activity than static landscapes. Our results underscore that water is a critical aspect of a landscape due to its therapeutic benefits and should be incorporated in the planning and design of green spaces for health promotion.

  • Objectives: The dengue prevention program known as "One House One Mosquito Larva Inspector" involves health volunteers who play a crucial role in the surveillance of mosquito larvae and reporting their findings to local public health officials. This study aimed to identify factors related to the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of dengue prevention behavior among these health volunteers. Methods: A study was conducted in 5 sub-districts in Malang, an urban area in Indonesia. We employed a cross-sectional design and utilized a semi-structured questionnaire to assess the KAP of 400 health volunteers. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews. Results: Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals with a more positive attitude (odds ratio [OR], 1.69; p<0.05) and those with family sizes greater than five persons (OR, 1.90; p<0.05) were more likely to engage in effective dengue prevention practices. Additionally, possesing good knowledge was significantly assocated with more positive attitude (OR, 2.24; p<0.001). Furthermore, 40% reduction in positive attitude was observed in those over 45 years (OR, 0.60; p<0.05). The best practices most frequently reported by the majority of respondents included always reporting their surveillance activities (75.8%) and cleaning the water container in the bathroom at least once a week (65.2%). However, only 52.2% of respondents regularly checked for mosquito larvae in their neighborhood. Conclusions: Sustainable promotion and training for the "One House One Mosquito Larva Inspector" initiative are necessary, particularly among young health volunteers, to improve dengue prevention behaviors both within their own homes and in the surrounding environment.

  • Currently, convergence research is being conducted in various research facilities in Korea, but it is true that there are very few multi-purpose convergence research facilities that can support such convergence research in universities, which are the most basic research group. In the case of multi-purpose convergence research facilities installed in universities, human resources from more diverse fields gather to conduct various studies than general research facilities, so the facilities should be planned to reflect these characteristics, and the space should be planned to promote human exchanges. The basic guidelines for planning multipurpose convergence research facilities installed in universities are as follows. First, multi-purpose convergence facilities in universities should be based on the habitability and convenience of users who use the facilities, and functionality, promotion of human resource exchange, symbolism, and eco-friendliness should be set as major planning factors. Second, in the case of internal planning, it is necessary to secure a efficient research and public space, a short and clear movement and evacuation plan, a future-oriented image and symbolism, an eco-friendly facility plan, efficiency through zoning and modularization, and future expansion. Third, in the case of size setting, it is appropriate to plan around 18,000m2 of total floor area, and considered safe to plan around 45% of research & education area, 6% of support area, 5% of convenience area, 4% of exhibition area, and 40% of public areas by use, but additional reviews should be conducted according to the situation of each university or local region.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of mental health both domestically and internationally. Korea has a high suicide rate, and there is a strong social demand to understand the causes and take measures. In this study, we identified the factors that significantly affect the experience of depression, a leading indicator of mental health. Using data from the 2021 Community Health Survey and KOSIS, we analyzed data at the individual and community level, and found that stress levels, subjective health, and basic living status are key influences. Local health authorities should strengthen mental health for the population, including expanding health education and promotion activities to reduce stress and improve lifestyle, and developing targeted programs for specific groups, such as those living on basic subsistence. They should also work with the central government to strive for comprehensive health care and implement effective mental health policies in harmony with population and family authorities.

  • This study aims to analyze the causes and characteristics of conflicts arising from the relocation of national defense facilities, focusing on the Jeonju Aviation School relocation project, and to explore effective conflict management strategies. As urbanization progresses, military facilities initially located on the outskirts of cities have been integrated into urban areas, increasing the need for relocation. This process frequently results in conflicts among the government, the military, and local residents due to differing interests. This study employs a combination of literature review and surveys to examine perceptions of conflict causes and resolution strategies. The findings reveal that the primary conflict factors include inadequate information provision and consultation, noise and property value decline, and unilateral decision-making processes. Participatory decision-making was found to be effective in resolving conflicts. Based on these findings, the study proposes policy recommendations such as institutional improvements, enhanced information disclosure and communication, comprehensive compensation systems, and strengthened expertise in conflict management. This research is significant in empirically confirming the importance of participatory decision-making in national defense facility relocation projects and providing specific policy suggestions for conflict management.
