The northwestern part of Kyongsang Basin largely comprises interbedded sandstone and mudstone with local conglomeratic deposits in the basin margin, representing marginal alluvial fans and fluvial depositional environments. The non-marine successions are divided into successive stratigraphic units, each of which is unique in facies assemblages and architecture of sandstone bodies. Two stratigraphic units, i.e., Sinpyong-Anpyong and Jotap units are examined in terms of stratigraphic architecture and its causative processes. Detailed architectural analysis reveals that the channel systems of Sinpyong-Anyong unit were of braided patterns, whereas those of Jotap unit were dominated by small-scale bedforms. The difference in fluvial styles can be attributed to the changes in amount and caliber of sediment load and water discharge, which might have been ultimately governed by basin tectonics, climate, and base level. Along with the marked change in fluvial style, the two successive units show repeated expansions of distal, water-logged floodplains and lacustrine facies in the basal and uppermost parts of Sinpyong-Anpyong unit, where the proportion of channel sandstone bodies is relatively low. These stratigraphic intervals are succeeded by the sequences with proximal, well-drained floodplain facies and relatively coarser-grained channel sandstone bodies of higher proportion, reflecting the progradation of proximal systems (the middle part of Sinpyong-Anpyong unit and Jotap unit). The overall stratigraphic architecture can be ascribed to the fluctuations in accommodation space and sediment supply induced by repeated basin subsidence.

Prognostic meteorological model, MM5V3 (Mesoscale Model 5 Version 3) was used to assess the effects of the land-use modifications on spatial variations of temperature and wind fields in Busan during the selected period of summer season in 2000. We first examined sensitivity analysis for temperature between MM5V3 predictions and meteorological data observed at 4 AWS (Automatic Weather System) stations in Busan, which exhibited low structural and accurate errors (Mean Bias Error, MBE: 0.73, Root Mean Square Error, RMSE: 1.18 on maximum). The second part of this paper, MMSV3 simulations for the modification of land-use was performed with 1 km resolution in target domain, 46$\times$46 $\textrm{km}^2$ area around city of Busan. It was found that modification result from change of surface land-use in central urban area altered spatial distributions of temperature and wind. In particular, heat island core moved slightly to the seaward at 1300 LST. This results may imply that modification of surface land-use leads to change the thermal environments; in addition, it has a significant effect on local wind circulations and dispersions of air pollutants.
Coastal marine ecosystems continue to suffer unrelenting pressures from human population growth, increased development, and climate change. Moreover, these systems' capacity for self-repair is declining with such increases in anthropogenic production of various pollutants. What is the present health status or condition of the coastal ecosystem? If our coastal areas are unhealthy, which conditions are considered serious? To answer such questions, the United States, Canada, and Australia are currently assessing coastal ecosystem health using systematic monitoring programs as well as identifying and implementing management plans to improve the health of degraded coastal ecosystems. To evaluate marine environments, Korea is currently using a limited number of factors to estimate water quality. In fact, we are ill-prepared for assessing coastal ecosystem health because no biologically specific criteria are in place to measure the responses to various pollutants. We should select ecosystem-specific indicators from physicochemical stressors and evaluate the subsequent biological responses within each ecosystem. Furthermore, a set of practical indicators should be generated by considering the characteristics and uses of a local coastal area and the key issues at hand. The values of indicators should be presented as indices that allow understanding by the general public as well as by practitioners, policy makers, environmental managers and other stakeholders.
Along with growing population and economic development, increasing waste generation rates in developing countries have become a major issue related to the negative impacts of waste management on the environment. Currently, the business-as-usual waste management practices in Myanmar are largely affecting the environment and public health. Therefore, this study developed an alternative approach to waste management for reducing the environmental impacts in Myanmar by highlighting the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from business-as-usual practices and three proposed scenarios during 2018-2025. The calculation methods of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies were used for estimating the GHG emissions from waste management. It was estimated that the current waste management sector generated approximately 2,000 gigagrams of CO2-eq per year in 2018, trending around 3,350 Gg of CO2-eq per year in 2025. It was also observed that out of the proposed scenarios, Scenario-2 significantly minimized the environmental impacts, with the lowest GHG emissions and highest waste resource recovery. Moreover, the GHG emissions from business-as-usual practices could be reduced by 50% by this scenario during 2018-2025. The target of the similar scenario could be achieved if the local government could efficiently implement waste management in the future.

This study was carried out in the Haenahm county as a part of project, the'89 Comprehensive Planning of Rural Area. In order to increase household income of rural area and to meet increasing tourism demand in urban area, several tourism development directions and strategies were suggested in terms of resources, services, and transportation. The major results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1) Core tourism market has to be maintained by inforcement of unique image of the Haenahm county, such as the southern extremeity of Korean peninsula and tourism resources rich land. 2) New tourism products need to be introduced to attract fringe market of this area by use of natural and cultural resources in the Haenahm county, such as terrain, climate, provincial park, music, dance and artifacts. 3) image of this county as a touristic resort would be escalated by development of high quality andclusterized accommodation in urbanized area of the Haenahm county 4) Development of private lodging, production of local brand by native food, beverage and artifacts, introduction of festival by folk song and folk dance would be helpful to stabilize a seasonal fluctuating demand level of ourismandlocalresidentsincome. 5) Diversification of tourism product needs to be provided for tourists in order to increase chances for enjoyment in the destination and to be involved in socially comfortable atmosphere. 6) Package tour by diversification of touristic subregions in this county and linkage system with touristic regions of other counties would helpful to lead visitors to stay long, resulting in increased expenditure.
This study was to determine the effect of cooling part of the trunk without harm for the health. The results provide basic data for the development of clothing which could increase work efficiency and reduce body strain in hot environment. Eight males took part in the study. The experiment was conducted in a climate-chamber controlled with $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C,\;50{\pm}5%R.H$. The trunk was divided into six areas to be cooled: head, neck, chest, abdomen, the upper back, the lower back. According to preceding studies, permissible safety cooling limits of skin temperature, of each part of the trunk for four hours cooling were $25^{\circ}C$ on the head, $20^{\circ}C$ on the neck, $27^{\circ}C$ on the chest, $25^{\circ}C$ on the abdomen, $20^{\circ}C$ on the upper back, $20^{\circ}C$ on the lower back. So cooling temperatures of each region set up temperatures above mentioned. In conclusion, the head, the neck and the upper back cooling could reduce sweating amount, rectal temperature and heart rates and reduce the heat stress of workers exposing in the hot environment by decreased subjective sensations of heat and comfort. Thus, it was concluded that effectiveness of cooling among the trunk was best on the head and the neck.
Geographic information system (GIS) sewer network data are a fundamental input material for urban inundation modeling, which is important to reduce the increasing damages from urban inundation due to climate change. However, the essential attributes of the data built by a local government are often missing because the purpose of building the data is the maintenance of the sewer system. Inconsistent simplification and supplementation of the sewer network data made by individual researchers may increase the uncertainty of flood simulations and influence the inundation analysis results. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a basic algorithm to convert the GIS-based sewage network data into input data that can be used for inundation simulations in consistent way. In this study, the format of GIS-based sewer network data for a watershed near the Sadang Station in Seoul and the Oncheon River Basin in Busan was investigated, and a missing data supplementing algorithm was developed. The missing data such as diameter, location, elevation of pipes and manholes were assumed following a consistent rule, which was developed referring to government documents, previous studies, and average data. The developed algorithm will contribute to minimizing the uncertainty of sewer network data in an urban inundation analysis by excluding the subjective judgment of individual researchers.
A study of wind effects was carried out at the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory (BLWTL) for the projected 558-m high free-standing telecommunication and observation tower for Jakarta, Indonesia. The objectives were to assist the designers with various aspects of wind action, including the overall structural loads and responses of the Tower shaft and the antenna superstructure, the local wind pressures on components of the exterior envelope, and winds in pedestrian areas. The designers of the Tower are the East China Architectural Design Institute (ECADI) and PT Menara Jakarta, Indonesia. Unfortunately, the project is halted due to the financial uncertainties in Indonesia. At the time of the stoppage, pile driving had been completed and slip forming of the concrete shaft of the Tower had begun. When completed, the Tower will exceed the height of the CN-Tower in Toronto, Canada by some 5 m.
Urban atmospheric conditions are usually settled as warmer, drier and dirtier than those of rural counterpart owing to reduction of green space and water space area heat retention in surfaces such as concrete and asphalt, and abundant fuel consumption. The characteristics of urban climate has become generally known as urban heat island. The purpose of this study is to investigate the temporal and spatial distribution of the heat emission from human activity, which is a main factor causing urban heat island. In this study, the anthropogenic heat fluxes emitted from vehicles and constructions are estimated by computational grid mesh which is divided by 1km $\times$ 1km. The anthropogenic heat flux by grid mesh can be applied to a numerical simulation model of the local circulation model. The constructions are classified into 9 energy-consumption types - hospital, hotel, office, department store, commercial store, school, factory, detached house and flat. The vehicles classified into 4 energy-consumption types - car, taxi, truck and bus. The seasonal mean of anthropogenic heat flux around central Daegu exceeded $50 W/m^2$ in winter. The annual mean anthropogenic heat flux exceeded $20 W/m^2$. The values are nearly equivalent to the anthropogenic heat flux in the suburbs of Tokyo, Japan.
The use of natural light has the potential for improving both the energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality in buildings. A light-pipe system can introduce daylight to spaces that would otherwise not be able to benefit from the advantages of daylight penetration. For the light-pipe system to be widely used in Korea, it is important to quantify its daylighting performance with due consideration regarding the effects imposed by the local climate conditions. This paper presents the evaluation results of existing semi-empirical models to predict daylighting performance of a light-pipe system. The evaluation of the existing models was based on the monitoring data obtained from a underground parking lot in which the light-pipe system was installed. Comparisons were made between the predicted and the monitored data obtained from the study. The results indicated that semi-empirical models which was developed using the experimental data obtained under the Korean climatic conditions had a good prediction performance. We also quantified the effects caused by sky conditions, solar altitudes, room dimensions, and the aspect ratio of a light-pipe system on both the daylighting performance of the light-pipe system and the indoor illuminance distributions of the space using the semi-empirical model. Finally, this paper provides the design guideline of the light-pipe system for its application to an underground parking lot space.
