It is well known that Variable Structure Controller(VSC) is robust to parameters variation and disturbance but its performance depends on the design parameters such as switching gain and slope of sliding surface. This paper proposes a more robust VSC that is composed of local VSC's. Each local VSC considers the local system dynamics with narrow parameter variation and disturbance. First we optimize the local VSC's by use of Evolution Strategy, and next we use Artificial Neural Network to generalize the local VSC's and construct the overall VSC in order to cover the whole range of parameter variation and disturbance. Simulation on BLDC motor current control shows that the proposed VSC is superior to the conventional VSC.

Since well-calibrated satellite data is critical for their applications, calibration and validation of COMS science data was one of the key activities during the IOT. COMS MI radiometric calibration process was divided into two phases according to the out-gassing of the sensor: calibrations of the visible (VI) and infrared (IR) channels. Different from the VIS calibration, the calibration steps for the IR channels followed additional processes to secure their radiometric performances. Primary calibration steps of the IR were scan mirror emissivity correction, midnight effect compensation, slope averaging and 1/f noise compensation after a nominal calibration. First, the scan mirror emissivity correction was conducted to compensate the variability of the scan mirror emissivity driven by the coating material on the scan mirror. Second, the midnight effect correction was performed to remove unreasonable high spikes of the slope values caused by the excessive radiative sources during the local midnight. After these steps, the residual (difference between the previous slope and the given slope) was filtered by a smoothing routine to eliminate the remnant random noises. The 1/f noise compensation was also carried out to filter out the lower frequency noises caused from the electronics in the Imager. With through calibration processes during the entire IOT period, the calibrated IR data showed excellent performances.
Heaving of road and subsidence of slope took place at the Wiri region of the local highway 999 in Gyeongsangbukdo, Korea after heavy rain in the next year of construction. Although the state government had performed remedial treatments by reducing the angle and the height of the slope, deformation had never stopped. Therefore, we have preformed the analysis of deformation and stabilityof the slope. Study area consists of the Cretaceous shale, siltstone and sandstone and two faults are found. The major deformation occurred by sliding of rock mass along faults after heavy rain because not only thepore pressure at the fault plane and the unit weight of sliding mass increased, but did the shearstrength of saturated fault clay become very low. The decrease in shear strength of saturated fault clayis the major factor among the reasons for deformation. Numerical simulations using limit equilibriummodel, finite difference model and finite element model were performed for eight cross sections.Although safety factors are above 1.7 during the dry season, they become below 1.0 when groundwaterlevel raises to surface. The maximum displacement is about 15-3Ocm. However, safety factors increasedto above 2.4 and the maximum displacement is below 2.08cm after remedial treatment, Indicating thatthe slope becomes stable.

A local Iribarren number is suggested for the universal use of breaker type classification, which relates the bed slope to the wave steepness, both being given from the breaking point. The existing Iribarren number uses the wave length at an offshore point, while the local Iribarren number uses the wave length at the breaking point so that it can imply any influences due to current interaction and diffraction. The modified form of Miche's breaking criterion includes 고 breaking parameter which may be related to the local Iribarren number. Using the modifiedform of Miche's criterion with the local Iribarren number, the inclusion of Doppler effect seems to describe well the wave breaking mechanism in a current-interacted flow on a sloping beach without any additional effects implemented.

Although the government and local governments devote efforts to activate bicycles, they only access to the supply infrastructure such as bike lanes and the public bicycle rental service centers without considering the measures to overcome the geographical constraints of slope. Therefore, this study constructs bicyclist's energy consumption estimation model through experimental methods of slope gradient and heart rate measurement and suggest the bicycle route choice model which could minimize the energy by the slope gradient. After calculating the RMSE of the estimated energy consumption by applying this model to the simulation section, it is confirmed to be 41% better than the model which does not reflect slope gradient. The results of this study are expected to be applied to the bicycle infrastructure planning that considers both longitude and transverse of bike lanes and the algorithm of bicycle route guidance system in the future.
A jointed rock slope stability evaluation was simulated by a discontinuous deformation analysis numerical method to investigate the process and safety factors for different crack distributions and different overloading situations. An optimized method using Discontinuous Deformation Analysis for Rock Failure (DDARF) is presented to perform numerical investigations on the jointed rock slope stability evaluation of the Dagangshan hydropower station. During the pre-processing of establishing the numerical model, an integrated software system including AutoCAD, Screen Capture, and Excel is adopted to facilitate the implementation of the numerical model with random joint network. These optimizations during the pre-processing stage of DDARF can remarkably improve the simulation efficiency, making it possible for complex model calculation. In the numerical investigations on the jointed rock slope stability evaluations using the optimized DDARF, three calculation schemes have been taken into account in the numerical model: (I) no joint; (II) two sets of regular parallel joints; and (III) multiple sets of random joints. This model is capable of replicating the entire processes including crack initiation, propagation, formation of shear zones, and local failures, and thus is able to provide constructive suggestions to supporting schemes for the slope. Meanwhile, the overloading numerical simulations under the same three schemes have also been performed. Overloading safety factors of the three schemes are 5.68, 2.42 and 1.39, respectively, which are obtained by analyzing the displacement evolutions of key monitoring points during overloading.

It is necessary that UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle) should generate a real-time travesability index map by analyzing raw terrain information to travel autonomously tough terrain which has various slope and roughness values. In this paper, we propose a local path planning method, $MA^*$(Modified $A^*$) algorithm, using DVGM (Directional Velocity Grid Map) for unmanned ground vehicle. We also present a path optimization algorithm and a path smoothing algorithm which regenerate a pre-planned local path by $MA^*$ algorithm into the reasonable local path considering the mobility of UGV. Field test is conducted with UGV in order to verify the performance of local path planning method using DVGM. The local path planned by $MA^*$ is compared with the result of $A^*$ to verify the safety and optimality of proposed algorithm.
The mesoscale atmospheric models to produce surface temperature can not generally consider the effect of the sloped terrain for direct solar radiation. These have not showed the regional difference of solar radiation and as a result, have made the big error in the local surface temperature. Therefore, we wished to represent the exact locality of surface temperature by considering the geometric properties of surface as well as the vegetated properties of surface. The purpose of the study is to produce local surface ground temperature in sloped terrain diagnostically using surface Energy Balance Model (EBM) with the use of GRID model in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In this study, surface inhomogeneity over southeastern part of Korean peninsula are considered in estimation of the absorbed surface solar radiation in terms of the illumination angle, depending on topographical aspect and slope in GRID. Also, the properties of vegetated surface which the major components for the variability of surface temperature are considered in terms of NDVI. The results of our study show the locally changes in the surface ground temperature due to local ground aspect and slope effect and local properties of vegetated surface. The more detailed distribution of local surface temperature may drive the local circulation at lower atmospheric and it may explain better the real local circulation.

NDSM (Normalized Digital Surface Model) is key information for the detailed analysis of remote sensing data. Although NDSM can be simply obtained by subtracting a DTM (Digital Terrain Model) from a DSM (Digital Surface Model), in case of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) data, it is difficult to get an accurate DTM due to high resolution characteristics of UAV data containing a large number of complex objects on the ground such as vegetation and urban structures. In this study, RGB-based UAV vegetation index, ExG (Excess Green) was used to extract initial seed points having low ExG values for region growing such that a DTM can be generated cost-effectively based on high resolution UAV data. For this process, local window analysis was applied to resolve the problem of erroneous seed point extraction from local low ExG points. Using the DSM values of seed points, region growing was applied to merge neighboring terrain pixels. Slope criteria were adopted for the region growing process and the seed points were determined as terrain points in case the size of segments is larger than 0.25 ㎡. Various slope criteria were tested to derive the optimized value for UAV data-based NDSM generation. Finally, the extracted terrain points were evaluated and interpolation was performed using the terrain points to generate an NDSM. The proposed method was applied to agricultural area in order to extract the above ground heights of crops and check feasibility of agricultural monitoring.
