The vehicle routing problem is one of the vibrant research problems for half a century. Many studies have extensively studied the vehicle routing problem in order to deal with practical decision-making issues in logistics. However, developments of new logistics strategies have inevitably required investigations on solution methods for solving the problem because of computational complexity and inherent constraints in the problem. For this reason, this paper suggests a simulated annealing (SA) algorithm for a variant of vehicle routing problem introduced by a previous study. The vehicle routing problem is a multi-depot and multi-trip vehicle routing problem with multiple heterogeneous vehicles restricted by the maximum permitted weight and the number of compartments. The SA algorithm generates an initial solution through a greedy-type algorithm and improves it using an enhanced SA procedure with three local search methods. A series of computational experiments are performed to evaluate the performance of the heuristic and several managerial findings are further discussed through scenario analyses. Experiment results show that the proposed SA algorithm can obtain good solutions within a reasonable computation time and scenario analyses show that a transportation system visiting non-dedicated factories shows better performance in truck management in terms of the numbers of vehicles used and trips for serving customer orders than another system visiting only dedicated factories.

An Exponential Bandwidth Harmony Search with Centralized Global Search (EBHS-CGS) was developed to enhance the performance of a Harmony Search (HS). EBHS-CGS added two methods to improve the performance of HS. The first method is an improvement of bandwidth (bw) that enhances the local search. This method replaces the existing bw with an exponential bw and reduces the bw value as the iteration proceeds. This form of bw allows for an accurate local search, which enables the algorithm to obtain more accurate values. The second method is to reduce the search range for an efficient global search. This method reduces the search space by considering the best decision variable in Harmony Memory (HM). This process is carried out separately from the global search of the HS by the new parameter, Centralized Global Search Rate (CGSR). The reduced search space enables an effective global search, which improves the performance of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm was applied to a representative optimization problem (math and engineering), and the results of the application were compared with the HS and better Improved Harmony Search (IHS).

In visual object tracking, Correlation Filter-based Tracking (CFT) systems have arouse recently to be the most accurate and efficient methods. The CFT's circularly shifts the larger search window to find most likely position of the target. The need of larger search window to cover both background and object make an algorithm sensitive to the background and the target occlusions. Further, the use of fixed-sized windows for training makes them incapable to handle scale variations during tracking. To address these problems, we propose two layer target representation in which both global and local appearances of the target is considered. Multiple local patches in the local layer provide robustness to the background changes and the target occlusion. The target representation is enhanced by employing additional reversed RGB channels to prevent the loss of black objects in background during tracking. The final target position is obtained by the adaptive weighted average of confidence maps from global and local layers. Furthermore, the target scale variation in tracking is handled by the statistical model, which is governed by adaptive constraints to ensure reliability and accuracy in scale estimation. The proposed structural enhancement is tested on VTBv1.0 benchmark for its accuracy and robustness.
Objectives: The aim of this review was to appraise Korean studies published between 2010 and 2021 which examined the role of acupuncture in the treatment of obesity. Methods: We performed a search of the NDSL, KISS, RISS, OASIS, PubMed, EMBASE electronic databases for relevant animal researches, case reports, and clinical trials, using the following search terms: 'obesity', 'acupuncture', 'electroacupuncture', and 'pharmacopuncture'. We excluded previous reviews and meta-analyses, studies not related to obesity or acupuncture treatment, as well as studies conducted in countries other than Korea. We also excluded studies where relevant information on acupuncture treatment in obesity could not be obtained. Results: Most studies were conducted in animals, followed by case reports and clinical trials. In animal researches and case reports, pharmacopuncture was the most used intervention. In case studies, electroacupuncture, thread-embedding therapy, manual acupuncture, acupotomy, and auricular acupuncture were also used. In animal researches, pharmacopuncture treatment was associated with improvement in obesity indices. In the case of local obesity, specific acupuncture techniques such as thread-embedding therapy and pharmacopuncture were associated with significant improvements in local obesity, even when diet and exercise were not controlled for. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment showed significant benefit in the treatment of obesity, with a local effect evident for certain approaches, such thread-embedding therapy and acupotomy.
Methods based on integer programming have been shown to be very effective in solving various crew pairing optimization problems. However, their applicability is limited to problems with linear constraints and objective functions. Also, those methods often require an unacceptable amount of time and/or memory resources given problems of larger scale. Heuristic methods such as neighborhood search, on the other hand, can handle large-scaled problems without too much difficulty and can be applied to problems having any form of objective functions and constraints. However, neighborhood search often gets stuck at local optima when faced with complex search spaces. This paper presents ,i hybrid algorithm of neighborhood search and integer programming, which nicely combines the advantages of both methods. The hybrid algorithm has been successfully tested on a large-scaled crew pairing optimization problem for a real subway line.

Existing methods always rely on statistical features to extract local words for microblog user geolocation. There are many non-local words in extracted words, which makes geolocation accuracy lower. Considering the statistical and semantic features of local words, this paper proposes a microblog user geolocation method by extracting local words based on word clustering and wrapper feature selection. First, ordinary words without positional indications are initially filtered based on statistical features. Second, a word clustering algorithm based on word vectors is proposed. The remaining semantically similar words are clustered together based on the distance of word vectors with semantic meanings. Next, a wrapper feature selection algorithm based on sequential backward subset search is proposed. The cluster subset with the best geolocation effect is selected. Words in selected cluster subset are extracted as local words. Finally, the Naive Bayes classifier is trained based on local words to geolocate the microblog user. The proposed method is validated based on two different types of microblog data - Twitter and Weibo. The results show that the proposed method outperforms existing two typical methods based on statistical features in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score.
This paper addresses to the flowshop scheduling problem with blocking constraints. The objective is to minimize the makespan criterion. We propose a hybrid combinatorial particle swarm optimization algorithm (HCPSO) as a resolution technique for solving this problem. At the initialization, different priority rules are exploited. Experimental study and statistical analysis were performed to select the most adapted one for this problem. Then, the swarm behavior is tested for solving a combinatorial optimization problem such as a sequencing problem under constraints. Finally, an iterated local search algorithm based on probabilistic perturbation is sequentially introduced to the particle swarm optimization algorithm for improving the quality of solution. The computational results show that our approach is able to improve several best known solutions of the literature. In fact, 76 solutions among 120 were improved. Moreover, HCPSO outperforms the compared methods in terms of quality of solutions in short time requirements. Also, the performance of the proposed approach is evaluated according to a real-world industrial problem.
A new hybrid meta-heuristic optimization algorithm is presented for design of structures. The algorithm is based on the concepts of the charged system search (CSS) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms. The CSS is inspired by the Coulomb and Gauss's laws of electrostatics in physics, the governing laws of motion from the Newtonian mechanics, and the PSO is based on the swarm intelligence and utilizes the information of the best fitness historically achieved by the particles (local best) and by the best among all the particles (global best). In the new hybrid algorithm, each agent is affected by local and global best positions stored in the charged memory considering the governing laws of electrical physics. Three different types of structures are optimized as the numerical examples with the new algorithm. Comparison of the results of the hybrid algorithm with those of other meta-heuristic algorithms proves the robustness of the new algorithm.

Results : By BLAST search one of Cervus elaphus species was identified as Cervus elaphussibericus but the other was identified as Cervus elaphus nelsoni. This work showed that identification can efficiently be performed by BLAST search. Conclusion : These results suggest that sequencing following BLAST search might be able to provide the identification of Cervus elaphus species.
We present two local-search based metaheuristics for the multi-source capacitated facility location problem. In such a problem, each customer's demand can be supplied by one or more facilities. The problem is NP-hard and the number of locations in the optimal solution is unknown. To keep the search process effective, the proposed methods adopt the following features: (1) a multi-exchange neighborhood structure, (2) a tabu list that keeps track of recently visited solutions, and (3) a multi-start to enhance the diversified search paths. The transportation simplex method is applied in an efficient manner to obtain the optimal solutions to neighbors of the current solution under the algorithm framework. Two in-and-out selection rules are also proposed in the algorithms with the purpose of finding promising solutions in a short computational time. Our computational results for some of the benchmark instances, as well as some instances generated using a method in the literature, have demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach.
