Structural optimization has been carried out in continuous design space or in discrete design space. Generally, available designs are discrete in design practice. However, the methods for discrete variables are extremely expensive in computational cost. An iterative optimization algorithm is proposed for design in a discrete space, which is called a sequential algorithm using orthogonal arrays (SOA). We demonstrate verifying the fact that a local optimum solution can be obtained from the process with this algorithm. The local optimum solution is defined in a discrete design space. Then the search space, which is a set of candidate values of each design variables formed by the neighborhood of a current design point, is defined. It is verified that a local optimum solution can be found by sequentially moving the search space. The SOA algorithm has been applied to problems such as truss type structures. Then it is confirmed that a local solution can be obtained by using the SOA algorithm
The structural optimization has been carried out in the continuous design space or in the discrete design space. Generally, available designs are discrete in design practice. But methods for discrete variables are extremely expensive in computational cost. In order to overcome this weakness, an iterative optimization algorithm was proposed for design in the discrete space, which is called as a sequential algorithm using orthogonal arrays (SOA). We focus to verify the fact that the local solution can be obtained throughout the optimization with this algorithm. The local solution is defined in discrete design space. Then the search space, which is the set of candidate values of each design variables formed by the neighborhood of current design point, is defined. It is verified that a local solution can be founded by moving sequentially the search space. The SOA algorithm has been applied to problems such as truss type structures. Then it is confirmed that a local solution can be obtained using the SOA algorithm
This paper describes new optimization strategy that offers significant improvements in performance over existing methods for geometry design of frame structures. In this study, an imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) and ant colony optimization (ACO) are combined to reach to an efficient algorithm, called Imperialist Competitive Ant Colony Optimization (ICACO). The ICACO applies the ICA for global optimization and the ACO for local search. The results of optimal geometry for three benchmark examples of frame structures, demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the new method presented in this work. The results indicate that the new technique has a powerful search strategies due to the modifications made in search module of ICACO. Higher rate of convergence is the superiority of the presented algorithm in comparison with the conventional mathematical methods and non hybrid heuristic methods such as ICA and particle swarm optimization (PSO).
For the degradation of severe noise and ill-conditioned blur the optimization function has the solution spaces which have many local optima around global solution. General restoration methods such as inverse filtering or gradient methods are mainly dependent on the properties of degradation model and tend to be isolated into a local optima because their convergences are determined in the convex space. Hence we introduce genetic algorithm as a searching method which will search solutions beyond the convex spaces including local solutins. In this paper we introudce improved evaluation square error) and fitness value for gray scaled images. Finally we also proposed the local fine tunign of window size and visit number for delicate searching mechanism in the vicinity of th global solution. Through the experiental results we verified the effectiveness of the proposed genetic operators and evaluation function on noise reduction over the conventional ones, as well as the improved performance of local fine tuning.
This paper analyzes properties of the recently developed nonlinear optimization method, Dynamic Encoding Algorithm for Searches (DEAS) [1]. DEAS locates local minima with binary strings (or binary matrices for multi-dimensional problems) by iterating the two operators; bisectional search (BSS) and unidirectional search (UDS). BSS increases binary strings by one digit (i.e., zero or one), while UDS performs increment or decrement to binary strings with no change of string length. Owing to these search routines, DEAS retains the optimization capability that combines the special features of several conventional optimization methods. In this paper, a special feature of BSS and UDS in DEAS is analyzed. In addition, a effective global search strategy is established by using information of DEAS. Effectiveness of the proposed global search strategy is validated through the well-known benchmark functions.
Chemo-mechanical caries removal methods are known to be more effective compared with conventional methods in pain reduction. $Carie-care^{TM}$, a chemo-mechanical caries removal agent, was introduced in 2010 but a systematic review of its efficacy has not yet been performed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of $Carie-care^{TM}$ on the outcomes of treatment of caries in children and adolescents. The primary outcome was pain while the secondary outcomes included complete caries removal (CCR), time, need for local anesthesia and behavioral response changes. A Comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library up to 30 September 2018. The following keywords were used in the search: 'chemo-mechanical caries removal agent', 'dental caries', 'Carie-care', 'chemo-mechanical caries removal', 'chemo-mechanical caries excavation', other related keywords, and their combinations. From 942 studies identified, 16 were analyzed. Finally, 4 studies met the eligibility criteria and 260 teeth in 120 children and adolescents were included in this review. This review showed that $Carie-care^{TM}$ reduces pain during caries treatment but requires a longer time for effective treatment than conventional methods. Local anesthesia was not required in the Chemo-mechanical caries removal (CMCR) group. In addition, dental anxiety decreased compared to the control group, and co-operation was more positive. Therefore, it may be a useful alternative to conventional methods in children and adolescents, but further verification through additional studies is needed.
Managing pain and anxiety in patients has always been an essential part of dentistry. To prevent pain, dentists administer local anaesthesia (LA) via a needle injection. Unfortunately, anxiety and fear that arise prior to and/or during injection remains a barrier for many children and adults from receiving dental treatment. There is a constant search for techniques to alleviate the invasive and painful nature of the needle injection. In recent years, researchers have developed alternative methods which enable dental anaesthesia to be less invasive and more patient-friendly. The aim of this review is to highlight the procedures and devices available which may replace the conventional needle-administered local anaesthesia. The most known alternative methods in providing anaesthesia in dentistry are: topical anaesthesia, electronic dental anaesthesia, jet-injectors, iontophoresis, and computerized control local anaesthesia delivery systems. Even though these procedures are well accepted by patients to date, it is the authors' opinion that the effectiveness practicality of such techniques in general dentistry is not without limitations.
Evolutionary algorithm has been receiving a remarkable attention due to the model-free and population-based parallel search attributes and much successful results are coming out. However, there are some problems in most of the evolutionary algorithms. The critical one is that it takes much time or large generations to search the global optimum in case of the objective function with multimodality. Another problem is that it usually cannot search all the local optima because it pays great attention to the search of the global optimum. In addition, if the objective function has several global optima, it may be very difficult to search all the global optima due to the global characteristics of the selection methods. To cope with these problems, at first we propose a preprocessing process, grid-filtering algorithm(GFA), and propose a new distributed evolutionary ...
In creative design, it is necessary to understand the characteristic of architectural design. In the world of design problem, a distinction can be made between those that are well-defined and those that are ill-defined. Well-defined problems are those for which the ends or goal, are already prescribed and apparent, their solution requires the provision of appropriate means. For ill-defined problems, on the other hand, both the ends and the means of solution are unknown at the outset of the problem solving exercise, at least in their entirety. Most of design problems is ill-defined, which is unknown at the beginning of the problem solving exercise. In order to solve the design problem, Designers take advantage of the search methods of problem space, such as global-search-methods(depth-first-methods, breath-first-methods), local-search-methods(generate and test, heuristics, hill-climbing, reasoning) and visual thinking, which is represented through sketching. Sketching is a real part of design reasoning and it does so through a special kind of visual imagery. Also in the design problem solving it have been an important means of problem exploration and solution generation. By sketching, they represent images held in the mind as well as makes graphic images which help generate mental images of entity that is being designed. The search methods of problem space and a visual thinking have been crucially considered in the architectural design. The purpose of this paper is to explore the property of design by means of the pre-existed-experiment data and literature research. The findings will help design the architectural design for more creative results.
