A Study on the TCN based Train Diagnostic and Control System of the HEMU (TCN을 이용한 분산형고속열차 차세대 진단제어장치 개발에 대한 연구)

  • The Train Diagnostic and Control System(TDCS) has been equipped on the modern Metro Vehicle, Locomotive and High Speed Train. The main purpose of this system is to support the identification of train status by real-time, the fast action against such failure events during revenue service and the fast convenient maintenance processes. Some of newest TCMS, a kind of control and monitoring system, has participated in the main control functions such as pantograph up and down, powering and braking command and so on. But these kind of control functions of the high speed train which has the operating speed over 300km/h are conducted by the train electrical logic circuits. The KTX-I and KTX-II - the local high speed train, are the typical example. The next generation TDCS for the ongoing project of distributed high speed train(HEMU) is designing with the target to increase main train control functions, to increase the reliability/avalibility and to increase the convenient driving. This paper introduces the overall configurations and functions of the new generation TDCS.

Sulphate Reducing Bacteria and Methanogenic Archaea Driving Corrosion of Steel in Deep Anoxic Ground Water

  • During the operation, maintenance and decommissioning of nuclear power plant radioactive contaminated waste is produced. This waste is stored in an underground repository 60-100 meters below the surface. The metallic portion of this waste comprises mostly carbon and stainless steel. A long-term field exposure showed high corrosion rates, general corrosion up to 29 ㎛ a-1 and localized corrosion even higher. High corrosion rate is possible if microbes produce corrosive products, or alter the local microenvironment to favor corrosion. The bacterial and archaeal composition of biofilm formed on the surface of carbon steel was studied using 16S rRNA gene targeting sequencing, followed by phylogenetic analyses of the microbial community. The functional potential of the microbial communities in biofilm was studied by functional gene targeting quantitative PCR. The corrosion rate was calculated from weight loss measurements and the deposits on the surfaces were analyzed with SEM/EDS and XRD. Our results demonstrate that microbial diversity on the surface of carbon steel and their functionality is vast. Our results suggest that in these nutrient poor conditions the role of methanogenic archaea in corrosive biofilm, in addition to sulphate reducing bacteria, could be greater than previously suspected.

How Do South Koreans Perceive Corporate Social Capital and Its Benefits? An Application to Corporations and Community

  • A recent public opinion survey found that the anti-corporate sentiment of South Korean citizens is primarily due to the misbehavior of Korean corporations. South Korean citizens' skepticism of corporations may hinder the democratic and economic development of the country. As a driving force for community development, social capital is considered to enable citizens to collaborate with one another to resolve a shared problem. Specifically, this study pays attention to the relationship among social capital, corporate capacity, and trust, which may perhaps contribute to developing a democratic environment in Korean society. The study aims to explore whether Korean citizens' perceived corporate bonding and bridging social capital affect corporate capacity for collaborative action and trust in corporations. A Web survey of 385 South Koreans was conducted. The findings show that perceived bonding social capital among employees is positively related to corporate capacity for collaboration action. Moreover, perceived bonding among employees and bridging social capital between employees and local residents are positively related to corporate capacity for collaboration action and trust in corporations. These findings suggest that researchers and practitioners for organizational development and community-building need to enhance corporate social capital.

  • Nowadays, the administration is strongly driving self-innovation including public sector to solve problems continuously pointed out as issues of public sector such as the low management achievement, the low productivity and costliness structure, the low ability coping with market changes and ineffectiveness in managing organization. The core of such renovation is the systematic performance management. Provincial public enterprises are also required to furnish system that can measure management results accurately and make payment according to measured results under autonomous management system to raise management efficiency and strengthen competitive power. In this paper, we design framework for measuring management results of provincial public enterprises based on Balanced Scorecard and show the example applied to Gwangiu Metropolitan City Environmental Installations Corp (GEIC).

Scaling law in MHD turbulence small-scale dynamo

  • Magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) dynamo depends on many factors such as viscosity ${\gamma}$, magnetic diffusivity ${\eta}$, magnetic Reynolds number $Re_M$, external driving source, or magnetic Prandtl number $Pr_M$. $Pr_M$, the ratio of ${\gamma}$ to ${\eta}$ (for example, galaxy ${\sim}10^{14}$), plays an important role in small scale dynamo. With the high PrM, conductivity effect becomes very important in small scale regime between the viscous scale ($k_{\gamma}{\sim}Re^{3/4}k_fk_f$:forcing scale) and resistivity scale ($k_{\eta}{\sim}PrM^{1/2}k_{\gamma}$). Since ${\eta}$ is very small, the balance of local energy transport due to the advection term and nonlocal energy transfer decides the magnetic energy spectra. Beyond the viscous scale, the stretched magnetic field (magnetic tension in Lorentz force) transfers the magnetic energy, which is originally from the kinetic energy, back to the kinetic eddies leading to the extension of the viscous scale. This repeated process eventually decides the energy spectrum of the coupled momentum and magnetic induction equation. However, the evolving profile does not follow Kolmogorov's -3/5 law. The spectra of EV (${\sim}k^{-4}$) and EM (${\sim}k^0$ or $k^{-1}$) in high $Pr_M$ have been reported, but our recent simulation results show a little different scaling law ($E_V{\sim}k^{-3}-k^{-4}$, $EM{\sim}k^{-1/2}-k^{-1}$). We show the results and explain the reason.

  • Objectives : The study aims at assessing information on cultural festivals of Korean medicine. Method : We investigated data about the National Festival collected from asking the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Efestival of YonhapNews, Driving Korea of KBS and JOINS. Result : Since the 1990s, cultural festivals of Korean medicine are increased. The festival of the ginseng was the most. 5 cultural festivals held on The Chungcheongnam-do are the best in cultural festivals of Korean medicine. 65% of cultural festivals was held in the fall. In the budget of the cultural festivals in Korean medicine, the most were 1~5 hundred million won. Conclusions : We wish to propose a model for developing cultural semiology and visual literacy, with the Korean medicine. Subsequently, it is expected that such a model can underpin the importance of developing coherent edutainment content while illustrating the true meaning/value of local festivals.

  • The need of companies shorten the design-to-manufacturing process for new products with improved quality in cost effective manner places increasing demends on engineers to simulate the performance characteristics of a design before it is built of a prototype is developed. For theses demands CAE(Computer-Aided Engineering) offers engineers not only giving confidence of their design but also eliminating potential errors due totesting prototypes in small numbers. This paper present the method to predict the fatigue life using dynamics simulation and FEA(Finite Element Analysis) for construciton equipment in the computer before building prototype. The dynamicsimulatio is to get the load-time history corresponding to the maneuvering and driving of the construction equipment. The FEA is to build a model of the structure and then analyse to define the local stress response to applied loadings using linear static analysis.

  • In field of environments, the control and monitoring devices for sewage disposal facilities have been developed to overcome a problem of the water contamination according to industrialization and urbanization. In order to control and monitor the driving motor and the surroundings states of the sewage disposal facilities installed in local stations, this paper presents the design method of efficient module system interconnected by internal network with serial interface. It is expected that the proposed method in this paper is able to provide the more adaptive and flexible design technique for the specification of condition and factors needed in the fast-changed environment market.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve environmental education policy through analysing environmental education policy in Seoul. According to the results, it should be considered in suggesting improvement of Environmental Education policy in Seoul as follows. First, according to the analyses of paradigm of environmental education policy, it does not in part depend on implication of education for sustainable development. Second, according to the analyses of driving force on the environmental education policy, The state of integration between formal education and non formal education has not been mature yet. Third, according to the current state on the environmental education policy, it is urgent to strategic approach to activate school environmental education. Consequently, It is necessary to indicate a new paradigm shifts for review and revisions of policy and practice in support of sustainable regional development in Seoul. It is also desirable to provide new infra structure which included basic framework, guideline, practical programme so as to enhance environmental education. Thus it would be possible to contribute to activating education for sustainable development.

Effect of the Wind on the Pollutant Transport in Masan Bay (마산만의 오염물질 수송에 미치는 바람 효과)

  • Current measurements at 3 sections and numerical experiments were carried out in Masan Bay to understand the effect of the wind on the residual currents and pollutant transport. The vertical distribution of horizontal velocities were directly affected by the wind at the depths of 1m and 2m beneath the sea surface. Analysis of the velocity data suggested that changes in the vertical gravitational circulation contributed to the net circulation. The net transport of water through the northern part of the bay was observed to be landward, with wind-induced transport of about 100m super(3)/s. Hence, wind is concluded to be the dominant mechanism driving the net circulation in the northern area of Masan Bay. Numerical experiments are shown that when S wind with 5m/s blew, northern area of the bay was generated the horizontal circulation of clockwise and local gyre. On the contrary of those, N wind made her to the anti-clockwise. In the case of no wind, the tidal residual current(constant flow) is very small or neglected except the bay-mouth. The inflow or outflow pattern of the mouth is considered as the flows generated by tidal residual current only. The distance of wind-induced transport of pollutant was as long as 2 times of no wind during the one tidal period.
