Quercetin and its glycoside, rutin, are flavonoids, which are well known as natural antioxidants. In this study, cationic liposomes loaded with flavonoids (quercetin or rutin) were investigated for their effects on cell and skin permeability, and protective effects against UVA. The particle size of the empty cationic liposomes was in the range of 100~130 nm, and the zeta potential was + 33.05 mV. The entrapment efficiency of 0.5R/CL was higher than that of 0.5 Q/CL. The cellular uptake of the cationic liposomes was five-fold higher than that of liposomes. The skin permeability of quercetin and rutin was investigated using Franz diffusion cells. Compared to the initial loading dose, the amount of quercetin or rutin delivered to the skin by cationic liposomes was higher than that delivered by conventional liposomes or phosphate-buffered saline. From the protective effect of cationic liposomes against UVA ($25J/cm^2$), we found that the cell viability in cationic liposomes containing flavonoids was higher than that of using UVA irradiation only. These results indicate that cationic liposomes provide enhanced delivery of flavonoids (quercetin and rutin) into the skin and may be used for antiaging and antioxidant cosmetics.
A target for a high-brightness microfocus x-ray tube, which is based on carbon nanotubes (CNT) as electron source, is designed. The x-ray tube has the following specifications: brightness of $1\times10^{11}phs/s.mm^2. mrad^2$, spot size $\~5{\mu}m$, and average x-ray energy of $20\~40 keV$. In order to meet the specifications, the design parameters of the target, such as configuration, material, thickness of the target as well as the required beam current, were optimized using computer code MCNPX. The design parameters were determined from the calculation of both x-ray spectrum and intensity distribution for a transmission type configuration. For the thin transmission type target to withstand vacuum pressure and localized thermal loading, the structural stability and temperature distribution were also considered. The material of the target was selected as molybdenum(Mo) and the optimized thickness was $7.2{\mu}m$ to be backed by $150{\mu}m$ beryllium (Be). In addition, the calculations revealed that the maximum temperature of the transmission target can be maintained within the limits of stable operation.
The use of composite restorative materials is established due to continuing improvements in the materials and restorative techniques. Composite resins are widely used for the restoration of cervical lesions because of esthetics, good physical properties and working time. There are several types of cavity design for class V composite resin filling, but inappropriate cavity form may affect bonding failure, microleakage and fracture during mastication. Cavity preparations for composite materials should be as conservative as possible. The extent of the preparation is usually determined by the size, shape, and location of the defect. The design of the cavity preparation to receive a composite restoration may vary depending on several factors. In this study, 5 types of class V cavity were prepared on each maxillary central incisor. The types are; 1) V-shape, 2) round(U) shape, 3) box form, 4) box form with incisal bevel and 5) box form with incisal bevel and grooves for axial line angles. After restoration, in order to observe the concentration of stress at bonding surfaces of teeth and restorations, developing a 2-dimensional finite element model of labiopalatal section in tooth, surrounding bone, periodontal ligament and gingiva, based on the measurements by Wheeler, loading force from direction of 45 degrees from lingual side near the incisal edge was applied. This study analysed Von Mises stress with SuperSap finite element analysis program(Algor Interactive System, Inc.). The results were as follows : 1. Stress concentration was prevalent at tooth-resin bonding surface of cervical side on each model. 2. In model 2 without line angle, stress was distributed evenly. 3. Preparing bevel eliminated stress concentration much or less at line angle. 4. Model with round-shape distributed stress concentration more evenly than box-type model with sharp line angle, therefore decreased possibility of fracture. 5. Adding grooves to line angles had no effect of decreasing stress concentration to the area.
Ship collisions and grounding continue to occur regardless of continuous efforts to prevent such accidents. With the increasing demand for safety at sea and for protection of the environment, it is of crucial importance to be able to reduce the probability of accidents, assess their consequences and ultimately minimize or prevent potential damages to the ships and the marine environment. Numerical simulations for actual collision problem are conducted with a special attention with respect to finite element size, fracture criteria and material properties, which require a careful consideration to improve the accuracy. A parametric analysis varying colliding speed, angle, design loading condition is conducted using nonlinear finite element analysis method for 46,00 dwt Product/chemical carrier. The relationship between the absorbed energy and indentation are derived quantitatively using the insights observed from this study, and a novel design concept for assessing the anti-collision performance are proposed.

Conventional Systems for parcel sorting consist of two sequences as loading the parcel into conveyor belt system and post-code input. Using bar code information, the parcels to be recorded and managed are recognized. This paper describes a 32 $\times$ 32 sized mini-block inspection to extract bar code Region of Interest (ROI) from the line Charged Coupled Device (CCD) camera capturing image of moving parcel at 2m/sec speed. Firstly, the Min-Max distribution of the mini-block has been applied to discard the background of parcel and region of conveying belts from the image. Secondly, the diagonal inspection has been used for the extraction of letters and bar code region. Five horizontal line scanning detects the number of edges and sizes and ROI has been acquired from the detection. The wrong detected area has been deleted by the comparison of group size from labeling processes. To correct excluded bar code region in mini-block processes and for analysis of bar code information, the extracted ROI 8 boundary points and decline distribution have been used with central axis line adjustment. The ROI extraction and central axis creation have become enable within 60~80msec, and the accuracy has been accomplished over 99.44 percentage.

Steel beams with corrugated web have been widely used in the steel structures. However, it is challenging to weld the section between the corrugated web and the flange straight, which increases the cost of production. In order to solve this issue, steel beam with intaglio and embossed web (It is called an IEB) was invented. A web with embossment is produced by cold pressing and welded to flange by automatic welding machine. The loading tests were conducted to investigate the load-carrying capacity of IEB, and its test result was compared with that of H-shaped beam having a same size of flange and web. The test results of IEB series showed about 40% higher load capacities than H-shaped series. As a result of comparing the IEB specimen with Eurocodes for steel beams with corrugated web, all of specimens tested in this study did not meet the design value. Therefore, it is difficult to apply existing formula to IEB and new design formula should be presented for field application.

Recently, the construction of the urban area has been rapidly increasing, and the excavation work of the ground has been frequently performed at the upper part of the existing underground structures. Especially, when the structure is constructed after the excavation of the ground, the loading and unloading process in the ground under the excavation basement can affect the existing underground structures. Therefore, in order to maintain the stability of the existing underground structure due to the excavation of the ground, it is necessary to accurately grasp the influence of the excavation and the structure load in the adjoining part. In this study, the effect of the excavation of the ground and the new structure load on the existing tunnel was experimentally implemented and the influence of the adjacent construction on the existing tunnel was investigated. For this purpose a large testing model with 1/5 scale of the actual size was manufactured. The influence of ground excavation, width of the load due to new structure, and distance between centers of tunnel and of excavation on the existing tunnel was investigated. In this study, it was confirmed that the influence on the existing tunnel gets larger, as the excavation depth get deeper. At the same distance, it was confirmed that the tunnel displacement increased up to three times according to the increase of the building load width. That is, the load width influences the existing tunnel larger than the excavation depth. As the impact of the distance between centers of tunnel and of excavation, it was confirmed that tunnel crown displacement decreased by 48%. The result showed that a tunnel is located in the range of 1D (D: tunnel diameter) from the center of excavation, the effect of excavation is the largest.
Spar platforms have several advantages for deploying wind turbines in offshore for depth beyond 120 m. The merit of spar platform is large range of topside payloads, favourable motions compared to other floating structures and minimum hull/deck interface. The main objective of this paper is to present the response analysis of the slack moored spar platform supporting 5MW wind turbine with bottom keel plates in regular and random waves, studied experimentally and numerically. A 1:100 scale model of the spar with sparD, sparCD and sparSD configuration was studied in the wave basin ($30{\times}30{\times}3m$) in Ocean engineering department in IIT Madras. In present study the effect of wind loading, blade dynamics and control, and tower elasticity are not considered. This paper presents the details of the studies carried out on a 16 m diameter and 100 m long spar buoy supporting a 90 m tall 5 MW wind turbine with 3600 kN weight of Nacelle and Rotor and 3500 kN weight of tower. The weight of the ballast and the draft of the spar are adjusted in such a way to keep the centre of gravity below the centre of buoyancy. The mooring lines are divided into four groups, each of which has four lines. The studies were carried out in regular and random waves. The operational significant wave height of 2.5 m and 10 s wave period and survival significant wave height of 6 m and 18 s wave period in 300 m water depth are considered. The wind speed corresponding to the operational wave height is about 22 knots and this wind speed is considered to be operating wind speed for turbines. The heave and surge accelerations at the top of spar platform were measured and are used for calculating the response. The geometric modeling of spar was carried out using Multisurf and this was directly exported to WAMIT for subsequent hydrodynamic and mooring system analysis. The numerical results were compared with experimental results and the comparison was found to be good. Parametric study was carried out to find out the effect of shape, size and spacing of keel plate and from the results obtained from present work ,it is recommended to use circular keel plate instead of square plate.
A comparison study is made between the dynamic properties of an argillaceous siltstone and its grouting-reinforced body. The purpose is to investigate how grout injection can help repair broken soft rocks. A slightly weathered argillaceous siltstone is selected, and part of the siltstone is mechanically crushed and cemented with Portland cement to simulate the grouting-reinforced body. Core specimens with the size of $50mm{\times}38mm$ are prepared from the original rock and the grouting-reinforced body. Impact tests on these samples are then carried out using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) apparatus. Failure patterns are analyzed and geotechnical parameters of the specimens are estimated. Based on the experimental results, for the grouting-reinforced body, its shock resistance is poorer than that of the original rock, and most cracks happen in the cementation boundaries between the cement mortar and the original rock particles. It was observed that the grouting-reinforced body ends up with more fragmented residues, most of them have larger fractal dimensions, and its dynamic strength is generally lower. The mass ratio of broken rocks to cement has a significant effect on its dynamic properties and there is an optimal ratio that the maximum dynamic peak strength can be achieved. The dynamic strain-softening behavior of the grouting-reinforced body is more significant compared with that of the original rock. Both the time dependent damage model and the modified overstress damage model are equally applicable to the original rock, but the former performs much better compared with the latter for the grouting-reinforced body. In addition, it was also shown that water content and impact velocity both have significant effect on dynamic properties of the original rock and its grouting-reinforced body. Higher water content leads to more small broken rock pieces, larger fractal dimensions, lower dynamic peak strength and smaller elastic modulus. However, the water content plays a minor role in fractal dimensions when the impact velocity is beyond a certain value. Higher impact loading rate leads to higher degree of fragmentation and larger fractal dimensions both in argillaceous siltstone and its grouting-reinforced body. These results provide a sound basis for the quantitative evaluation on how cement grouting can contribute to the repair of broken soft rocks.
