  • Different types of long slender pile shall buckle with weak soil and liquefied stratum surrounded. Different from considering single side earth pressure, it was suggested that the lateral earth pressure can be divided into two categories while buckling: the earth pressure that prevent and promotes the lateral movement. Active and passive earth pressure calculation model was proposed supposing earth pressure changed linearly with displacement considering overlying load, shaft resistance, earth pressure at both sides of the pile. Critical buckling load calculation method was proposed based on the principle of minimum potential energy quoting the earth pressure calculation model. The calculation result was contrasted with the field test result of small diameter TC pile (Plastic Tube Cast-in-place pile). The fix form could be fixed-hinged in the actual calculation assuring the accuracy and certain safety factor. The contributions of pile fix form depend on the pile length for the same geological conditions. There exists critical friction value in specific geological conditions that the side friction has larger impact on the critical buckling load while it is less than the value and has less impact with larger value. The buckling load was not simply changed linearly with friction. The buckling load decreases with increased limit active displacement and the load tend to be constant with larger active displacement value; the critical buckling load will be the same for different fix form for the small values.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the stress distribution at supporting bone according to the types of endosseous implants. This investigation evaluated the stress patterns in rectangular photoelastic models produced by four different types of dental implants such as $Br\ddot{a}nemark$, screw type of Steri-Oss, blade type of Steri-Oss, IMZ with IMC and resin tooth using the techniques of quasi-three dimensional photoelasticity. All prostheses were casted in the same nonprecious alloy and were cemented or screwed on their respective implants and abutments. 20 kg of vertical load was applied on the central fossa of casted crown and 16 kg of inclined had was applied on the top third of distal surface of casted crown respectively. The results were as follows : 1. Under the vertical load, screw implants of Steri-Oss and $Br\ddot{a}nemark$ showed increasing stress condition between and around the screw threads along the implant lateral surface and cylindrical implant of IMZ showed the less stress condition along the lateral surface with concentration of stress mostly near the root apex. 2. Under the vertical load, the stress of Steri-Oss blade was distributed uniformly at the alveolar bone under the broad blade. 3. Under the inclined load, the stress concentration of Steri-Oss screw and $Br\ddot{a}nemark$ was developed highly around the mesiocervical bone area on the contralateral side to force application. The stress of $Br\ddot{a}nemark$ with flexible gold glod was more concentrated in the cervical bone area than that of Steri-Oss with stiff screw. 4. Under the inclined load, the stress of Steri-Oss blade broadly was distributed around the mesioceivical bone area and the lower and mesial bone area of the blade. 5. Under the Inclined load, IMZ implant showed the gap between c개wn and fixture due ta deformation of the IMC and IMZ was lower in stress concentration developed around the mesiocervical bone area than $Br\ddot{a}nemark$ and Steri-Oss screw. 6. Under the inclined load, the stress magnitude induced in the mesiocervical bone area of implants was in order of $Br\ddot{a}nemark$, Steri-Oss strew, IMZ and Stsri-Oss blade. 7. Tilting forces as compared to axial forces exerted greater magnitude of stress in the cervical bone area of the implant. 8. In respect of stress distribution, Steri-Oss blade was superior than any other implants and in respect of the stability by horizontal lone, IMB and $Br\ddot{a}nemark$ was inferior than any other implants.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the distributing pattern of stress according to the types of occlusal load on the finite element models of the splinted implant prostheses. The finite element model was designed with the parallel placement of two fixtures ($4.0mm{\times}11.5mm$) on mandibular first and second molars. The cemented crowns for mandibular first and second molars were made. Three-dimensional finite element model was created with the components of the implant, surrounding bone and cemented crowns. Two types of occlusal load, the point load and the surface load within 0.5 mm radius circle, were applied to the finite element models with 200N magnitude in axial(along the long axis of the implant and oblique(angulation of $30^{\circ}$ to the long axis) directions perpendicular to cuspal incline. Loads were positioned from the center of central fossa and to distance of 2 mm and 4 mm apart from the center of central fossa. Von-Mises stresses were recorded and compared in the fixtures and sections. The results were as following : 1. Under axial loading at the central fossa, the stress was distributed along the fixture except for the apical portion, not relative to both point & surface contacts. 2. With offset distance increasing, the highest stresses were concentrated in the neck portion of the fixture. 3. The maximum von Mises stress under the oblique load was greater than that under the axial load. 4. Under the oblique load, the highest stress were concentrated in the buccal side and lingual neck portion of the fixture with offset distance increasing. The results had a tendency to increase the stress on the neck portion of fixture with the offset and oblique loads increasing. The design of occlusal scheme should be allowed to distribute stress axially in maximum intercuspation and to decrease the angulation of cuspal incline.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of excessive occlusal loading on stress distribution on four type of cervical lesion, using a three dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA). The extracted maxillary second premolar was scanned serially with Micro-CT. The 3D images were processed by 3D-DOCTOR. ANSYS was used to mesh and analyze 3D FE model. Four different lesion configurations representative of the various types observed clinically for teeth were studied. A static point load of 500N was applied to the buccal and lingual cusp (Load A and B). The principal stresses in lesion apex, and vertical sectioned margin of cervical wall were analyzed. The results were as follows 1. The patterns of stress distribution were similar but the magnitude was different in four types of lesion 2. The peak stress was observed at mesial corner and also stresses concentrated at lesion apex. 3. The compressive stress under load A and the tensile stress under load B were dominant stress. 4. Under the load, lesion can be increased and harmful to tooth structure unless restored.

  • In modern society, the number of industrial customers using equipment sensitive particularly to voltage sags is rapidly increasing. As voltage sags can cause loss of information as well as false operation of the control device, it results in the vast economic damage in industrial processes. One way to mitigate voltage sags in the sensitive loads is the installation of distributed generation (DGs) on the periphery of these loads. In addition, renewable energy sources are currently in the spot light as the potential solution for the energy crisis and environmental issues. In particular, wind power generation which is connected to a grid is rising rapidly because it is energy efficient and also economically feasible compared to other renewable energy sources. On the basis of the above information, in this paper, with Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) installed nearby the sensitive load, the analysis of the mitigating effect comparison by types of WTGs is performed using voltage sag assessment on the IEEE-30 bus test system. That is, the areas of vulnerability according to types of WTGs are expected to be different by how much reactive power is produced or consumed as WTG reactive power capability is related to the types of WTGs. Using the concept of 'Vulnerable area' with the failure rate for buses and lines, the annual number of voltage sags at the sensitive load with the installation of WTGs per type is studied. This research will be anticipated to be useful data when determining the interconnection of wind power generation in the power system with the consideration of voltage sags.

  • In this study, cases of domestic tall residential buildings were investigated for the structural types, numbers of stories, total heights, type of lateral load resisting systems, and zoning of concrete strength. Based on these investigation data, the structural planning pattern of tall residential building was analyzed. SRC structure is main structural types of tall residential building at the initial stage of domestic tall residential building, but RC structure is substituted for main structural types since 2005. Retaining wall system is positioned at the core part of structural plan as a lateral load resisting system. Concrete strength zoning of vertical members like columns are divided by vertical heights of lower parts, middle parts, and upper parts. Basic data of structural planning of 40stories and 60 stories residential buildings was proposed based on case investigation.

  • The composite steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns have been widely used in Structural Engineering due to their good performances. Many studies have been done on the SRC columns' performances, but they focused on the ordinary types with conventional configurations and materials. In this study, nine new types of steel reinforced lightweight aggregate concrete (SRLAC) short columns with cross-shaped (+shaped and X-shaped) steel section were tested under monotonically axial compressive load; the studied parameters included steel section ratio, steel section configuration, ties spacing, lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) strength, and longitudinal bars ratio. From the results, it could be found that the specimens with larger ties ratio, concrete strength, longitudinal bars ratio, and steel section ratio achieved great strength and stiffness due to the excellent interaction between the concrete and steel. The well-confined concrete core could strengthen the steel section. The ductility and toughness of the specimens were influenced by the LWAC strength, steel section ratio, and longitudinal bars ratio; in addition, larger ties ratio with smaller LWAC strength led to better ductility and toughness. The load transfer between concrete and steel section largely depends on the LWAC strength, and the ultimate strength of the new types of SRLAC short columns could be approximately predicted, referring to the codes' formulas of ordinary types of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns. Among the used codes, the BS-5400-05 led to the most conservative results.

  • In this study, the impact load on bridge by vessel collision in consideration of fender system is evaluated by numerical method. The bow of object vessel(DWT5000) is standardized, and modeled by shell elements. The main body of objective vessel is modeled by beam elements that present mass distribution and stiffness of vessel. The buoyancy effect of vessel is considered as linear spring. The two types of fender systems, such as steel and rubber are analyzed in this study. In steel fender system, the steel plates that absorb collision energy by its collapse are modeled by shell element with stiffener. The steel is material modeled elastic-plastic material. In the rubber fender system, the rubber material is modeled hyper-elastic material and the main body of fender is modeled by solid elements. The global impact responses of vessel and fender system are evaluated by explicit dynamic scheme. The results show that the magnitude of vessel collision force are depended on the material behavior of fender system. Also the values of collision load are conservative compare to the those of design codes.

  • Voltage unbalance will be generated by the load unbalance operation such as combination operation of single & three phase load and current unbalance will be more severe by the deteriorated voltage quality. Under the these unbalance conditions, all power electronic converters used in different types of electronic systems can increase harmonic disturbances by injecting harmonic currents directly into the feeder grid of three phase 4-wire. Harmonic current may cause torque to decrease. it may also overheat or become noisy and torque oscillation in the rotor can lead to mechanical resonance and vibration. This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of induction motor under the combination of linear & non-linear loads at the three phase 4-wire power distribution system by the unbalance and harmonic components. It was able to confirm that the number of torque pulsation decreased and torque ripple values increased by the harmonics that reduction was difficult by five harmonics filters at additional driving time of single-phase non-linear load.
