Currently, RC slab bridges in use in Korea account for most of the total bridges, and bridges with a service life of 20 years or more account for about 75%. However, most of these RC slab bridges have a span of less than 20m and are not included in the first and second types of facilities, so maintenance is very neglected. Therefore, in this study, field load test is performed on an aged RC slab bridge, and the performance evaluation is performed based on the structural response results (deflection, impact coefficient, natural frequency, etc.) of the bridge obtained through field load test. In addition, the performance evaluation results obtained through the load test are intended to be used as basic data for the damage evaluation process of the bridge currently under development.

The increased quality of life requires indoor illumination environment to have illumination with higher intensity. The increase in indoor illumination goes hand in hand with increase in indoor heat load. Of late, the internal heat in the cooling load has been growing gradually and the proportion of the lighting load has been bigger in the cooling load. The objective of the experiment here is to estimate the proper exhaust air flow displacement to remove heat from different types of lighting equipment. The heat causing the cooling load in lighting equipment is the ratio of heat per watt and the ratio of space for heat. Experimental measurements of the constant temperature and humidity in chambers that exhaust air flow by changing the exhaust calorific value was measured. Using the Airflow exhaust heat from lighting fixture of this study should help to reduce House cooling load.
Steel structures often require strengthening due to the increasing life loads, or repair caused by corrosion or fatigue cracking. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) is one of the materials used to strengthen steel structures. Most studies on strengthening steel structures have been carried out on steel beams and steel columns under centric compression load. No independent article, to the author's knowledge, has studied the effect of CFRP strengthening on steel columns under eccentric compression load, and it seems that there is a lack of understanding on behavior of CFRP strengthening on steel columns under eccentric compression load. However, this study explored the use of adhesively bonded CFRP flexible sheets on retrofitting square hollow section (SHS) steel columns under the eccentric compression load, using numerical investigations. Finite Element Method (FEM) was employed for modeling. To determine ultimate load of SHS steel columns, eight specimens with two types of section (Type A and B), strengthened using CFRP sheets, were analyzed under different coverage lengths, the number of layers, and the location of CFRP composites. Two specimens were analyzed without strengthening (control) to determine the increasing rate of the ultimate load in strengthened steel columns. ANSYS was used to analyze the SHS steel columns. The results showed that the CFRP composite had no similar effect on the slender and stocky SHS steel columns. The results also showed that the coverage length, the number of layers, and the location of CFRP composites were effective in increasing the ultimate load of the SHS steel columns.

The purpose of this research is to comprehend experimentally the characteristics of human strength for using as the basic data of impact resistance test method of lightweight wall. Human motions exerting static load are classified to 4 types. Pushes with two hands or shoulder are defined as the instantaneously forcing motions with hands or shoulder put on the force plate. Leanings back or one-hand against the wall are defined as motions of taking a rest in their respective comfortable posture. Human motions exerting dynamic load are classified to 3 types. Selecting 3 levels of motion strength (weak, middle, strong), 3 levels of force plate stiffness (A: 20kN/cm, B: 4.7kN/cm, C: 2.2kN/cm), and 30 male subjects, load was measured when they applied strength to the force plate. Results of this research are as follows: (1) The maximum load ratio (Pmax/W) of static load for each motion was 1.17-1.25 in two hands pushing, 0.95-0.99 in shoulder pushing, 0.16-0.18 in back leaning, and 0.12-0.15 in one hand leaning. (2) Human dynamic load and object collision were different in the load characteristics. (3) The maximum load ratio of dynamic load for each motion was 10.07 in heel kick, 4.46 in shoulder hitting, and 5.58 in fist blow.

Chassis part in automotive body is affected by fatigue load at driving on the ground. Universal joint on this part is influenced extremely by the fatigue load. Fatigue life, damage and natural frequency are analyzed at universal joint under nonuniform fatigue load. The york part at universal joint is shown with the maximum equivalent stress and displacement of 60.755 MPa and 0.21086 mm as strength analysis. The possible life in use in case of 'SAE bracket' is the shortest among the fatigue loading lives of 'SAE bracket', 'SAE transmission' and 'Sine Wave'. The damage at loading life of 'SAE transmission' is the least among 3 types. The frequency of damage in case of 'Sine Wave' is 0.7 with the least among 3 fatigue loading life types but this case brings the most possible damage as 80% at the average stress of 0. Natural vibration at this model is analyzed with the orders of 1'st to 5'th and maximum frequency is shown as 701.73 Hz at 5'th order. As the result of this study is applied by the universal joint on chassis part, the prevention on fatigue damage in automotive body and its durability are predicted.

The tension stiffening in reinforced concrete member means increase of stiffness caused by the effective tensile stress between cracks and the tension softening behavior of concrete. This paper presents on the tensile behavior and tension stiffening of RC tension members. Direct tension tests were performed with a main experimental variables such as concrete strength, rebar diameter and strength. The tension stiffening was analyzed from the load-displacement relationship and was compared with ACI code, CEB model and the proposed by Collins & Mitchell. The results are as follows : The tension behaviors of RC members were quite different from those of bare bar and were characterized by loading and concrete cracking steps. The effect of tension stiffening decreased rapidly as the rebar diameter and strength increased, and the concrete strength increased. The proposed by Collins & Mitchell described well the experimental results, regardless of rebar types and concrete. But, ACI code and CEB model described a little differently, depending on the types. The effect of tension stiffening in RC member was the biggest near at concrete cracking step and decreased gradually to the bare bar's behavior as loading closed to the breaking point. Thus, tension stiffening in RC members should be taken into account when the load-deflection characteristics of a member are required or a precise analysis near the load of concrete clacking is needed.
The objective of this study was to make comparison of the physical work capacities with different types and methods of tasks. To produce standard work loads, a bicycle ergometer and a treadmill were used for the purpose of two different types of tasks. Maximal oxygen uptake measurement tests are usually performen (1) continuously - with no rest between work load increments, or (2) discontinuously - with the subjects resting several minutes between work periods. Continuous test protocol with two different methods of work load increments, (1) ramp test- with 3 to 5 minutes of work period for each work load, and (2) incremental test - where exercise intensity was increased progressively in 2 minutes interval, were used. Predicted physicala work capacities (PWCs) were compared with the one by Kim(1990), and Lee(1995), and the NIOSH physiological criteria. For ergometer test, the PWC based on the ramp test was 89.65% of the one based on the incremental test. The PWC values were 2553.88 ml/min for the ramp test and 2848.82 ml/min for the incremental test. For treadmill test, the PWC based on the ramp test was 97.54% of the one based on the incremental test. The PWC values were 2786.89 ml/min for the ramp test and 2857.24 ml/min for the incremental test. The PWC obtained with a bicycle ergometer was 91.64% of the one obtained with a treadmill for the ramp test, and 99.71% for the incremental test.

This paper proposes an integrated approach, which is independent of specimen geometry and loading type, for predicting the fatigue life of spot welded specimens. We first establish finite element models reflecting the actual specimen behaviors observed on the experimental load-deflection curves of 4 types of single spot welded specimens. Using finite element models elaborately established, we then evaluate fracture parameter J-integral to describe the effects of specimen geometry and loading type on the fatigue life in a comprehensive manner. It is confirmed, however, that J-integral concept alone is insufficient to clearly explain the generalized relationship between load and fatigue life of spot welded specimens. On this ground, we introduce another effective parameter $J_e$ composed of $J_I$, $J_{II}$, $J_{III}$, which has been demonstrated here to more sharply define the relationship between load and fatigue life of 4 types of spot welded specimens. The crack surface displacement method is adopted for decomposition of J, and the mechanism of the mixed mode fracture is also discussed in detail as a motivation of using $J_e$.
A series of Brazilian tests under diameter compression for disc specimens was carried out to investigate the strength and failure behavior by using acoustic emission (AE) and photography monitoring technique. On the basis of experimental results, load-displacement curves, AE counts, real-time crack evolution process, failure modes and strength property of granite specimens containing two pre-existing holes were analyzed in detail. Two typical types of load-displacement curves are identified, i.e., sudden instability (type I) and progressive failure (type II). In accordance with the two types of load-displacement curves, the AE events also have different responses. The present experiments on disc specimens containing two pre-existing holes under Brazilian test reveal four distinct failure modes, including diametrical splitting failure mode (mode I), one crack coalescence failure mode (mode II), two crack coalescences failure mode (mode III) and no crack coalescence failure mode (mode IV). Compared with intact granite specimen, the disc specimen containing two holes fails with lower strength, which is closely related to the bridge angle. The failure strength of pre-holed specimen first decreases and then increases with the bridge angle. Finally, a preliminary interpretation was proposed to explain the strength evolution law of granite specimen containing two holes based on the microscopic observation of fracture plane.
The experimental comparison between bonded and unbonded types stem-cement interface was carried out on axisymmetric stem-cement-aluminum model of the femoral component of a total hip replacement. Human femur was modeled in non-tapered and tapered($7.5^{\circ}$) aluminum hollow cylinders to emulate the diaphyseal and metaphyseal segments of the femur. For unbonded type, we tested stems with three different taper angles($5^{\circ},\;7.5^{\circ},\;10^{\circ}$). In every case, the cement-aluminum interface was designed to endure 8MPa shear strength. (a measured value at cement-bone interface) We tested aluminum models under axial loading for both cases. As an experimental result, it was found that unbonded stem sustained more axial load as bonded stem in both cases, diaphyseal and metaphyseal models. The unbonded types failed in cement mantle under axial compressive load, while the bonded ones failed in shear at cement-aluminum interface. These results suggest that a polished stem will sustain much higher axial load than a roughened stem. And a polished stem will make more stable cement-bone interface that may promote better osteosythesis around the stem.
