  • In this study, the in-plane and out-of-plane seismic performance of the masonry wall strengthened using the steel bar truss system proposed by Hwang et al. (2021a, 2021b) or using FRP sheets were compared and evaluated. The maximum strength of the masonry wall reinforced with FRP sheets for the in-plane and out-of-plane loading was 71% and 85%, respectively, of that of the non-reinforced masonry wall. Meanwhile, the maximum strength of the masonry wall reinforced with the steel bar truss system was approximately 1.8 times higher than that of the non-reinforced masonry wall. Compared with the FRP sheet method, the steel bar truss system was excellent at improving the maximum load capacity, rigidity, and energy dissipation capacity. However, in the case of a masonry wall reinforced with FRP sheets, the masonry wall was overstrengthened with the FRP sheets covering the entire masonry wall, and it is considered that the overstrengthened specimen experienced sliding failure, resulting in a lower strength than the other specimens. A follow-up study is needed to compare the seismic performance of the specimen involving only a part of the masonry wall reinforced with the FRP sheets and the specimen reinforced using the steel bar truss system.

  • Recently, to shorten construction periods and reduce labor costs, the need for a corrugated beam form in the RC structure is being emphasized. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deformation performance of SY Beam, a newly developed corrugated beam form work, during concrete casting. The standard cross-sectional shape of SY Beam was determined by modeling the deck structure of various thicknesses using the MIDAS GEN program. As a result, the cross-sectional dimensions of the SY Beam were determined to be 400mm and 450mm in width and height, respectively. A total of three SY Beam specimens were fabricated using steel plate thicknesses of 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2mm. The load conditions applied during casting concrete at the actual site are reflected. The vertical and horizontal displacements of the SY beam were measured during concrete casting. As a result, the vertical displacement showed a tendency to decrease as the thickness increased. Considering both vertical and horizontal displacement, the case with steel plate thickness of 1.2mm is the safest and most immediately applicable to the field. In the future, to secure manufacturability, constructability, and economics, the optimum steel plate thickness should be derived, and additional analysis and experimental studies for 1.05, 1.1, and 1.15mm are required.

  • Three-dimensional FEM numerical analysis was performed to understand the behaviors of blocks and piles according to the horizontal load for the block breakwater combined with piles. The Modified Mohr-Coulomb model, the improved version of the Mohr-Coulomb model, was applied for the ground modeling. The cases when the pile is embedded only into the block, embedded to the riprap layer (H = 4.29 cm), and embedded to the ground down to 2H, 3H, and 4H were examined. The results of the laboratory model experiment and the numerical analysis showed similar horizontal resistance force-displacement behaviors. The pile showed rotational behavior up to the embedment depth of 1H~2H and bending behavior in the case of 3H~4H depth embedment. When the embedment depth of the pile is 3H or more, the pile shows a bending behavior, so it can be considered that the pile contributes significantly to the horizontal resistance of the block breakwater. The results of this study will be used for various numerical analyses for real-size structure design.

  • In this paper, we develop a machine learning based block code generation and recommendation model for the purpose of reducing cognitive load of learners during coding education that learns the learner's block that has been made in the block programming environment using natural processing model and fine-tuning and then generates and recommends the selectable blocks for the next step. To develop the model, the training dataset was produced by pre-processing 50 block codes that were on the popular block programming language web site 'Entry'. Also, after dividing the pre-processed blocks into training dataset, verification dataset and test dataset, we developed a model that generates block codes based on LSTM, Seq2Seq, and GPT-2 model. In the results of the performance evaluation of the developed model, GPT-2 showed a higher performance than the LSTM and Seq2Seq model in the BLEU and ROUGE scores which measure sentence similarity. The data results generated through the GPT-2 model, show that the performance was relatively similar in the BLEU and ROUGE scores except for the case where the number of blocks was 1 or 17.

  • Aircraft pylon connects the engine or external stores to the main wing, and transfers the load acting on the pylon to the main structure of the aircraft. In particular, it should perform the function of separating the external store mounted on the pylon in case of emergency or mission performance. At this time, if the separation of the external store is not performed properly due to peripheral air flow or functional problems during the separation process of the external store, it may seriously impact the survivability of the aircraft. For this reason, to apply an external attachment to an aircraft, it is necessary to prove the stability of the external attachment in the separation situation in advance. In this paper, we present the result of the ground separation test performed to confirm that the external fuel tank, which is an external attachment, can be safely separated from the pylon. As a result of the test, the separation movement of the external fuel tank was measured with a high-speed camera, and the stability of the separation of the external fuel tank from the pylon were confirmed through the ground separation test. Additionally, the test result provides basic data for the stability evaluation of the separation of external attachments in actual aircraft.

  • In order to carry out construction work, it is urgent to introduce a proper wage system so that the cost burden of projects that have been won due to bleeding competition among original government buildings based on low-priced bids can be transferred to subcontractors. Purpose: Construction with illegal multi-level industrial structure needs to improve the wage reduction environment leading to order (100%) → original contractor (80%) → subcontractor (65%) → load contractor (65%) and aims to ensure wages for end workers. Method: Investigate the current status of labor cost appropriate payment plan in the construction industry, and investigate the case of the appropriate wage system (P.W) in the United States. In addition, the effect and direction of the appropriate wage system are presented. Result: Individual minimum wage security was also mentioned in the Constitution, and many researchers suggested that only the introduction of an appropriate wage system could solve the problem of reducing worker labor and ensure quality and safety. Conclusion: The proper wage system in the construction industry will block illegal multi-level and illegal foreign work, improve the labor environment in the construction market, create an influx of young workers, and have a significant impact on the construction industry's competitive structure, safety, and quality.

  • With the recent increase in old and dangerous buildings, the demand for technology in the field of structure demolition is rapidly increasing. In particular, in the case of structures with severe deformation of damage, there is a risk of deterioration in stability and disaster due to changes in the load distribution characteristics in the structure, so rapid structure demolition technology that can be efficiently dismantled in a short period of time is drawing attention. However, structural deformation such as unauthorized extension or illegal remodeling occurs frequently in many old structures, which is not reflected in structural information such as building drawings, and acts as an obstacle in the demolition design process. In this study, as an effective way to overcome the discrepancy between the structural information of old structures and the actual structure, access to actual structures through 3D modeling was considered. 3D point cloud data inside and outside the building were obtained through LiDAR and drone photography for buildings scheduled to be blasting demolition, and precision matching between the two spatial data groups was performed using an open-source based spatial information construction system. The 3D structure model was completed by importing point cloud data matched with 3D modeling software to create structural drawings for each layer and forming each member along the structure slab, pillar, beam, and ceiling boundary. In addition, the modeling technique proposed in this study was verified by comparing it with the actual measurement value for selected structure member.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to improve the irregularity of the stress-strain curve and to ensure accuracy when calculating the damping effect by preventing members from moving in the off-plane direction due to eccentricity when loads are applied. Method: The specifications of the steel strips used in this study are the same, but the curvature of the strips to constitute each damper is different. Each steel strip with different curvature was arranged in an triangle, three dampers with different curvature were made, and repeated load tests were conducted, and the amount of energy dissipation was calculated to measure the performance of the damper. Result: The amount of energy dissipation significantly decreases compared to the case where there is no initial curvature, and the change in the test energy dissipation amount according to the size of the curvature is not large, and the presence or absence of the hyperbolic rate is considered an important variable. Conclusion: The period is about 78.7% longer from T=0.3 to T=0.536sec, and the response spectrum acceleration is reduced from Sa=0.54g to Sa=0.229g, so the damping effect of the damper is sufficient.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of varied resistance training intensities and rest intervals between training sets on integral electromyography (iEMG), repetition rate, and total work. All subjects, 14 college students, were tested one repetition maximum (1RM). Then, all subjects were weekly tested with 9 practice procedures, composed of diverse intensities (60, 75, 90% of 1RM) and rest intervals (1, 3, 5 min). As results show, to maintain the same load and target repetition maximum for an untrained person, muscular power training (90% of 1RM), muscular hypertrophy training (75% of 1RM), and muscular endurance training (60% of 1RM) should be applied with 5 min or longer rest interval periods for 3 training sets. In addition, 2 training sets with 3 min rest intervals and a set with an 1 min rest interval were capable by the subjects. Thus, at least 3 min or longer rest intervals should be applied to maintain multiple training sets. In case for muscular endurance training, which requires shorter rest intervals, the intensity of exercise should be adjusted to 60% of 1RM or less. In conclusion, depending on diverse purposes of resistance training such as improving muscular power, muscular hypertrophy, or muscular endurance, appropriate exercise intensity and rest intervals should be applied.

  • Liquefaction-induced lateral spreading has been the most extensive damage to pile foundations during earthquakes. Several cases of pile failures were reported despite the fact that a large margin of safety factor was employed in their design. In this study, 1-g shaking table tests were performed in order to analyze the failure behavior of piles embedded in liquefied soil deposits by buckling instability. As a result, it can be concluded that the pile subjected to excessive axial loads $(near\;P_{cr})$ can fail easily by buckling instability during liquefaction. When lateral spreading took place in sloping grounds, it was found that lateral loading due to lateral spreading increased lateral deflection of pile and reduced the buckling load. In addition, from the buckling shape of pile, difference between Euler's buckling and pile buckling vat observed. In the case of pile buckling, hinge formed at the middle point of the pile, not at the bottom. And in sloping grounds, location of hinge formation got lower compared with level ground because of the soil movements.
