  • This paper deals with short-term load forecasting. The load model is represented by the state variable form to exploit the Kalman filter technique. The load model is derived from Taylor series expansion and remainder term is considered as noise term. In order to solve recursive filter form, among various algorithm of solving Kalman filter, this paper uses exponential data weighting technique. This paper also deals with the asymptotic stability of filter. Case studies are carried out for the hourly power demand forecasting of the Korea electrical system.

  • To find out heating load and to determine the power of heat pump compressor for the Ondol room heating the COP of heat pump, the variation of Ondol room air temperature, the variation of ambient temperature and power consumption of heat pump are analyzed. The results from this study were summarized as follows: 1. The COP of the heat pump in close loop decreased as the ambient air temperature. The COP was 2.26 when the temperature difference of condenser was $20\pm3^{\circ}C$. 2. The Ondol surface temperature was $25\pm3^{\circ}C$ when the hot water of $40^{\circ}C$ was supplied from hot water storage tank to the Ondol and the temperature difference between the Ondol surface and the room air temperature was $7~8^{\circ}C$. 3. The ratio of thermal conduction heating load to total heating load in Ondol heating space was found to be 83% and ratio of ventilation heating load was 17%. Therefore, the thermal conduction heating load was confirmod to be a major heating load in Ondol heating space. 4. In case of the ambient temperature of $3.2^{\circ}C$, the efficiency of heat exchange of Ondol heating system was 85%. 5. The heating load per Ondol heating surface area and volume of Ondol room space were theoretically analyzed. In case of the room temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and the ambient temperature of $-3.2~3.8^{\circ}C$, the heating load per Ondol surface area was 115.8~167.6kJ/h ㆍ㎥ and per Ondol mom space volume was 50.2~72.7kJ/h ㆍ㎥. 6. The compressor power of heat pump fur the Ondol room heating could be determined with the heating load analyzed in this study In case of the Ondol room air temperature of 17~2$0^{\circ}C$ and the ambient temperature of -5~3.8$^{\circ}C$, the compressor power of heat pump per Ondol surface area was analyzed to be $2.3\times10^{-2}psm^2$, and per volume of Ondol room space $1.0\times10^{-2}1.4\times10^{-2}ps/m^2$ps.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze how the stability of the implant prostheses and the loosening of the fastening screw was affected when the various types of Hex structure provided for the effect of anti-rotation of the single prostheses were given. Three dimensional finite element model was designed with which the implants with the external hex type of 0.75mm, 1.5mm and the implant with the internal hex type of 0.75mm, 1.5mm and the implant with the external hex type of $15^{\circ}$ tapered shape of 0.75mm were supposed to completely osseointegrate to the mandible. After fininshing the finite element model, the preload of 10N at the fastening screw was applied and then the vertical and $30^{\circ}$ lateral load of 200N was applied respectively at the cusp tips of the prostheses. The following results were obtained : 1. In case of displacement, the amount of displacement was increased at the internal hex type(model C, D) than at the external hex type(model A, B, E) when the vertical and lateral load was applied. 2. Less equivalent stress was represented at the model B with increased external hex height than at the model A when the vertical and lateral load was applied. 3. Much stress was represented at the model E with increased hex angle than at the model A in case of the stress happened to the implant body and the fastening screw when the vertical and lateral load was applied. 4. Much equivalent stress was represented at the model D with deepened internal hex height than at the model C when vertical and lateral load was applied. 5. The least stress was taken at the model B and the most stress was taken at the model D in case of the stress happened to the implant when the vertical and lateral load was applied. 6. The least stress was taken at the model C at the vertical load. And the least stress was taken at the model B at lateral load in case of the stress happened to the fastening screw. As a results of this study, the good lateral stability of prostheses and less stress of the component of implant was taken when the external hex height was increased, and the risk of neck fracture of implant and fastening screw was increased when the internal hex height was deepned because of long screw neck portion and thin implant neck portion.

  • The procedures and relevant programs developed for analyzing mechanical load data of wind turbine generator systems, which are obtained through type certification tests, are verified. The following issues according to IEC 61400-13 are covered in the developed programs: data validation, time series analysis, summary load statistics, generation of fatigue load spectra, and estimation of equivalent loads. A capture matrix for normal power production is generated to determine whether the collected data sets are sufficient to carry out fatigue analysis. Fatigue load spectra are obtained through the rainflow counting method using 50 load ranges; finally, equivalent loads are calculated using different S-N curve slopes, m, according to the relevant materials. Case studies are performed using aero-elastic simulation data of the NREL 5 MW baseline wind turbine with a monopile foundation.

  • In this study, normal wind load and blast wind load are modeled mathematical. And the periodical torque and bending moments transmitted to the main shaft of wind turbine are investigated. A normal wind model assumed, of which the wind velocity is increased according to the height from ground. The average values and the harmonic terms of the transmitted moments are studied on the wind direction of range $-45^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ and the bending moment characteristics are examined, which is regarded as the main source of the misalignment of gear train. In normal wind load case, excitation frequency is 3X (X : Rotor speed). When the wind direction is $+22.5^{\circ}$, the horizontal axis of bending moment occur the 50% of main torque. This result leads to edge contact of gear teeth by shaft elastic deformation. In blast wind load case, excitation frequency are 3X,6X,9X. Additional, in the (+) direction of wind load, relative harmonic percentage is increase.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of apical-coronal implant position on the stress distribution after occlusal and oblique loading. Materials and Methods: The cortical and cancellous bone was assumed to be isotropic, homogeneous, and linearly elastic. The implant was apposed to cortical bone in the crestal region and to cancellous bone for the remainder of the implant-bone interface. The cancellous core was surrounded by 2-mm-thick cortical bone. An axial load of 200 N was assumed and a 200-N oblique load was applied at a buccal inclination of 30 degrees to the center of the pontic and buccal cusps. The 3-D geometry modeled in Iron CAD was interfaced with ANSYS. Results: When only the stress in the bone was compared, the minimal principal stress at load Points A and B, with a axial load applied at 90 degrees or an oblique load applied at 30 degrees, for model 5. The von Mises stress in the screw of model 5 was minimal at Points A and B, for 90- and 30-degree loads. When the von Mises stress of the abutment screw was compared at Points A and B, and a 30-degree oblique load, the maximum principal stress was seen with model 2, while the minimum principal stress was with model 5. In the case of implant, the model that received maximum von Mises stress was model 1 with the load Point A and Point B, axial load applied in 90-degree, and oblique load applied in 30-degree. Discussion and Conclusions: These results suggests that implantation should be done at the supracrestal level only when necessary, since it results in higher stress than when implantation is done at or below the alveolar bone level. Within the limited this study, we recommend the use of supracrestal apical-coronal positioning in the case of clinical indications.

  • It is difficult to apply a conventional selection guide for diffusers when the diffuser is installed in a perimeter zone, because the air diffusion performance index (ADPI) vs. throw/length (T/L) ratio curve listed in conventional guide does not consider the perimetric heating load through the walls. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the perimetric heating load on the ADPI and propose a selection guide for a proper line diffuser when perimetric heating load exists. The velocity and temperature distributions and the ADPI values are obtained numerically with various heat load ratios and air flow rates. The velocity and temperature distributions and the ADPI values are analyzed by CFD in case of various heat load ratios and air flow rates. Also, ADPI was calculated by those results. The ADPI values by numerical results are compared with an existing experimental data to verify the method for the evaluation of ADPI proposed in a present study. In case of a line diffuser installed at the high side wall, the ADPI decreases according to the increases of the flow rate on every heat load ratio of the present study except 0.75. The ADPI vs. T/L ratio curves have been proposed for the heat load ratios of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 to guarantee the comport thermal environment when diffusers are installed in perimeter zone.

  • Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.

  • The concrete cap, which was established on the top of the micropile, usually considered as an important structural component in micropile supported foundation systems. However, relatively few studies have been made on the load sharing behavior of the capped micropile foundation systems. The primary objective of this study is to assess the load sharing behavior of the capped micropile foundation systems. Therefore, a full-scale test on an instrumented capped micropile is conducted for establishing the load-displacement responses. Nonlinear numerical method was used to quantify the load sharing behavior of the pile cap and micropile respectively. As a result, it was found that the pile cap shares about 50% load from final loading steps in the case of 2 by 1 micropile foundation systems. In the case of 2 by 2, the pile cap shares about 30% load from final loading steps. In addition, the load sharing behavior of the micropile cap becomes larger with an increase in spacing and the battered angle of micropile respectively.
