The current boost type atatic excitation system for synchronous generator that can sustain prope output voltage level even at fault condition is proposed. The proposed excitation system is capabl of supplying level 60% of the rated voltage. The proposed system is verified and tested using computer simulations as well as load tests. The load tests are performed with a 5KVA synchronous generator driven by a ac motor. The actual tests results indicated a good performance.
In this paper, accelerated life test (ALT) models and procedures for Magnetic Switch (MS) are developed and applied to assure specified reliability of the products at development phase and guarantee the life of the products. Magnetic contactor that functions with over-current relay is called MS. Magnetic contactor closes and opens the motor load with ON/OFF switch of electronic contactor. It is also used for protecting and controlling the load. Magnetic contactor detects the over-current flow in the load with a over-current relay and disconnects the load by opening its control power. In this study, ALT models for MS are developed using the relationship between stresses and life characteristics of products. Using the ALT models, we performed life tests and analyzed the tests results. The proposed ALT models and procedures may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test times and costs of the tests remarkably. Finally the results of this study will contribute to improving reliability of products and strengthening competitiveness of our products in world markets.
Capacitive current switching test for circuit breaker and load breaker switch requires special attention because, after current interruption, the capacitive load contains an electrical charge and can cause dielectric restrike and re-ignition of the switching devices. therefore dielectric strength of capacitor load bank shall be able to withstand 4Vt (Vt : test voltage) and charging voltage discharged within 1 min. In this paper presents both characteristic of capacitive current switching tests and design of capacitor load bank.
The load transfer depth of a ground anchor is the minimum length required to transfer the initial prestressing to the grout column through the bonded part. A thorough understanding of the mechanism of load transfer as well as accurate prediction of the load transfer depth are essential for designing an anchorage that has an adequate factor of safety and satisfies implicit economic criteria. In the current research, experimental and numerical studies were conducted to investigate the load transfer mechanism of ground anchors based on a series of laboratory and field load tests. Optical FBG sensors embedded in the central king cable of a seven-wire strand were successfully employed to monitor the changes in tensile force and its distribution along the tendons. Moreover, results from laboratory and in-situ pullout tests were compared with those from equivalent case studies simulated using the finite difference method in the FLAC 3D program. All the results obtained from the two proposed methods were remarkably consistent with respect to the load increments. They were similar not only in trend but also in magnitude and showed more consistency at higher pullout loading stages, especially the final loading stage. Furthermore, the estimated load transfer depth demonstrated a pronounced dependency on the surrounding ground condition, being shorter in hard ground conditions and longer in weaker ones. Finally, considering the safety factor and cost-effective design, the required bonded length of a ground anchor was formulated in terms of the load transfer depth.

The behavior of composite piles composed of steel pipe pile in the upper part and concrete pile in the lower part by a mechanical splicing joint was examined by field lateral load tests and bending tests. A total of 7 piles including two instrumented piles for bending test were installed. The soil profile consists of soft clay with weak silt with shallow groundwater level. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the basic soil characteristics and the strength parameters. This paper presents the composite pile behavior with various portions of the upper steel pile: 0, 20, 30, and 45% of the pile embedded pile length. Three-point bending tests were performed to investigate the stress-strain relation at the mechanical joint. Based on these test results, the behavior of composite piles with various upper steel pile length are evaluated and the stability of mechanical joints are examined. Through comparisons with results of field load tests, it was found that lateral load carrying capacity of the composite piles increased and deflections of the composite piles decreased with increasing the upper steel piles. The mechanical joint was proved to retain its structural stability against the tested load conditions. Economical benefits of composite pile of this kind can be gained by setting adequately the length of the upper steel pipe piles.

The purpose of this study is to find out the similitude laws for dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure after liquefaction according to magnitude of input accelerations and height of model soils from the results of impulse load tests. In impulse load tests, model soils were constructed to the height of 25cm, 50cm, and 100cm in acrylic tubes whose inside diameters were 19cm and 38cm respectively, and impulse loads were applied at the bottom of each model soil to liquefy the entire model soil. Excess pore pressure distribution by depth and settlement of soil surface were measured in each test. Dissipation curves of excess pore pressure measured in each tests were simulated by solidification theory, and dissipation velocities of excess pore pressure were determined from the slope of simulated dissipation curves. From the results of impulse load tests, dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure was not affected by magnitude of input acceleration, and from this fact, dissipation process was proved to be different from dynamic phenomenon. However, dissipation velocity of excess pore pressure increased as height of model soil increased and showed little difference as diameter of model soil increased. Therefore, the similitude law for dissipation velocity could be expressed by the similitude law for model height to 0.2 without regard to the diameter of model soil.
This paper compares the load transfer efficiency between precast concrete pavement specimen and typical concrete pavement specimen by means of laboratory and field tests. An experimental method was developed to evaluate the load transfer efficiency of the dowel bars buried in the concrete pocket and grouted with cement mortar. The test results showed that the load transfer efficiency of the specimen for the dowel bars repaired with grout was equivalent to that of the control specimen. In addition, a series of FWD field tests were conducted on the precast pavement to evaluate the joint stiffness. The field test results revealed that the central deflection of the precast slab slightly increased but the load transfer efficiencies at the joints were almost the same as those in the typical concrete pavement slab.

In this paper, using the formulation of dynamic equivalent load considering the effects of moment load and the equation to estimate the cage rotational speed, the new life equation of deep groove ball bearing under radial and moment loads was proposed. Fatigue life test apparatus with the measuring equipment of shaft and cage speed was designed and developed to be capable of subjecting combined radial and moment load. Fatigue life tests were executed by sudden death test method and the reliability of fatigue lives was evaluated by Weibull distribution analysis. From the results of fatigue tests and analysis, the relationships between film parameters and life adjustment factors were acquired. And it was turned out that so as to estimate the effect of moment load on fatigue life, the life adjustment factor as well as the dynamic equivalent load must be taken into account.
Demand side management (DSM) is the planning and implementation of those utility designed to influence customer use of electricity in ways that will produce desired changes in the utility's load shape. It is conspicuous that the peak load control of DSM is efficiently adopted. In this paper, the package type air conditioner(A/C) mounted radio controlled switch. During the summer of 1990 KEPCO conducted tests in Seoul areas to determine the economic feasibility of interrupting A/C units for short periods of time during peak load periods. These tests were performed between July 30 and September 20 and were limited to the hours of between 1 and 6 p.m. These tests indicated that each A/C contributes approximately 4.5kW to the system peak and can be switched off 10 minutes out of each 1/2 hour without causing the customer any discomfort. Switching each A/C off for 10 minutes out of each 1/2 hour results in a peak load demand reduction of one kW per unit.
