  • A rapid, simple and sensitive validated spectrophotometric methods have been described for the assay of neomycin and streptomycin either in pure form or in pharmaceutical formulations. The proposed methods were based on the oxidation of the studied drugs by a known excess of potassium permanganate in acidic medium and estimating the unreacted permanganate with amaranth dye (method A), acid orange II (method B), indigocarmine (method C), and methylene blue (method D), in the same acid medium at a suitable lmax=521, 485, 610 and 664 nm, respectively. Beers law is obeyed in the concentration range of 5-10 and 2-7 mg mL-1 for neomycin and streptomycin, respectively. The apparent molar absorptivity and sandell sensitivity values are in the range 5.47-6.20104, 2.35-2.91105 L mol-1 cm-1 and 7.57-8.59, 5.01-6.2 ng cm-2 for neomycin and streptomycin, respectively. Different variables affecting the reaction were studied and optimized. The proposed methods were applied successfully to the determination of the examined drugs either in a pure or pharmaceutical dosage forms with good accuracy and precision. No interferences were observed from excipients and the results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained using the official methods.

  • A numerical study was made of flow behind a circular cylinder in a uniform flow, where the cylinder was rotationally oscillated in time. The temporal behavior of vortex formation was scrutinized over broad ranges of the two externally specified parameters, i.e., the dimensionless rotary oscillating frequency (.110.leq. $S_{f}$.leq..220) and the maximum angular amplitude of rotation (.theta.$_{max}$=15 deg., 30 deg. and 60 deg.). The Reynolds number (Re= $U_{{\inf}D}$.nu.) was fixed at Re=110. A fractional-step method was utilized to solve the Navier-Stokes equations with a generalized coordinate system. The main emphasis was placed on the initial vortex formations by varying $S_{f}$ and .theta.$_{max}$. Instantaneous streamlines and pressure distributions were displayed to show the vortex formation patterns. The vortex formation modes and relevant phase changes were characterized by measuring the lift coefficient ( $C_{L}$) and the time of negative maximum $C_{L}$( $t_{-C}$$_{Lmax}$) with variable forcing conditions.s.tions.s.s.s.

  • In current research work, the aerodynamics performance of a newly designed large flying V aircraft is numerically investigated. Three Flying V configurations, with V-angles of 50°, 70° and 90° that represent the minimum, moderate, and maximum configurations respectively, were designed and modeled to assess their aerodynamic performance at cruise flight conditions. The unstructured mesh was developed using ICEM CFD and Ansys-Fluent was used as an aerodynamic solver. The developed models were numerically simulated at cruise flight conditions with a Mach number equal to 0.15. K-ω SST turbulence model was chosen to account for flow turbulence. The authors performed steady flow simulations. The results obtained from the experimentation reveal that the maximum main angle configuration of 90° had the highest CLmax value of 0.46 compared to other configurations. While the drag coefficient remained the same for all three configurations, the 50° V-angle configuration achieved the maximum stall angle of 35°. With limited stall delay benefits, the flying V possesses no sufficient stability, due to the flow separation detected at whole elevon and winglet suction side areas at AoA equal and higher than 30°.

  • This research aims at establishing the application of canvas kite to the fishing gear through the analysis of the lift/drag tests of the kites have been performed in our previous finding. Now that several methodologies were designed to find the most effective triangular model as a buoyancy device applied to the fishing gear. Comparisons of drag/lift were made by installing the model in an installation frame instead of the prototype. Also, we have considered the application of canvas kite to the prototypic fishing gear by calculation using the result of this test. The results obtained from the above approaches are summarized as follows, where attack angle, lift coefficient, maximum lift coefficient and drag coefficient are denoted as $B,\;C_L,\;C_Lmax\;and\;C_D$ respectively. The camber showed a gradual increase with an increase of fluid velocity. There was a big discrepancy in B=20 unlike B=30. Even if the kite retreats along the fluid flow, there is little relationship with the velocity variation. Lifts calculated with the kites were bigger and drags were smaller than those of the calculations with the float only. The kite as the buoyancy device will be very useful when the appropriate applications and the stability are met.

  • Jangchan reservoir is located in Okcheon county, Chungbuk province, of which watershed area is $29.4\;km^2$ from outside, and $5.1\;km^2$ from inside watershed, effective storage capacity is $392{\times}10^4\;m^3$, paddy area to be irrigated is 474 ha. To determine inflows from Keumcheon weir located in outside watershed on an optimum level, a repeated procedure which is composed of simulation of inflows to Keumcheon weir, setting of range of water taking at Keumcheon weir, simulation of inflows to Jangchan reservoir, estimation of paddy water from Jangchan reservoir, and simulation of water storages in Jangchan reservoir was selected. Parameters of DAWAST model for simulating inflows to Jangchan reservoir were determined to UMAX of 315 mm, LMAX of 21 mm, FC of 130 mm, CP of 0.018, and CE of 0.007 with absolute sum of errors in reservoir water storages minimized using unconstrained Simplex method because of no inflows data. Inflows to Keumcheon weir were simulated to $2,132{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average. Optimal range of water taking at Keumcheon weir to transfer to Jangchan reservoir were $0.81{\sim}50\;mm/km^2/d$, which were summed up to $1,397{\times}10^4\;m^3$ in 66% of total on an annual average. Inflows to Jangchan reservoir were simulated to $1,739{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average of which were 80 % from Keumcheon weir of outside watershed. Requirements to paddy water from Jangchan reservoir were estimated to $543{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on an annual average.

  • It was to adjust the luminance of light by the rotation angle of the polarizes and analyzer. The luminance value Lmax, Lmin of Contrast Sensitivity could be obtained from the rotation angle ${\theta}_m$ of the average luminance($L_m$), the rotation angle(${\theta}_{max}$, ${\theta}_{min}$) of the maximum and the minimum's amplitude. $$L_{max}=I(0)e^{-2at}{\cdot}cos^2{\theta}_m(1+C_s^{-1})$$ $$L_{min}=I(0)e^{-2at}{\cdot}cos^2{\theta}_m(1-C_s^{-1})$$ We obtained the rotation angle(${\theta}_{max}$, ${\theta}_{min}$) of the polarizes and analyzer from the rotation angle ${\theta}_m$ of the average luminance($L_m$) and the Contrast Sensitivity($C_s$). $${\theta}_{max}=cos^{-1}[cos{\theta}_m{\cdot}(1+C_s^{-1})^{1/2}]$$ $${\theta}_{min}=cos^{-1}[cos{\theta}_m{\cdot}(1-C_s^{-1})^{1/2}]$$.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the noise exposures of firefighters according to their time-dependent activity patterns. Methods: Personal exposure levels were measured for six days and nights using noise dosimeters; three days and nights for on-duty tasks, the other days and nights for off-duty activities. Results: The total amount of time spent in the workplace was 13,677 min (67%), outside areas 4,833 min (23%), in transit 1,002 min (5%), and other indoor area 807 min (4%) during a working period. However, during off-days they spent 10,858 min (76%) at home, 1,382 min (10%) outdoors, 1,225 min (9%) other indoors, and 493 min (3%) in transit. As a result of individual exposure levels, TWA did not exceed 90 dBA of the occupational exposure limit for the majority of the firefighters, whereas the levels of Lmax were 119 dBA, which were higher than the noise levels of firefighters in USA. Sometimes during dispatching the levels of Lpeak exceeded the ACGIH exposure standard (140 dBC). The Leq levels in transit were higher than the levels in home and other indoors even though the activity time is short. Conclusions: This paper characterized the noise exposure patterns of firefighters in Korea. We suggest that special noise sources, including sirens and speaker phones, should be readjusted to reduce noise exposure.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the present state of noise level including three general districts and two roadside areas at the Residential Area such as Sangmu, Pungam, Moonheung, and Ilgok Area. The noise level was measured quarterly. The results were shown that the noise level of day time was no great difference and that noise level of night time represented ranges between 44 to 48 dB(A). The noise level of day time was higher 4 to 7 dB(A) than night time. At the roadside areas, average noise level of day time was suitable to the requirements of environmental criteria. However. only one point of two points exceeded the noise level of environmental criteria. except Pungam Area. The noise level of night time in all areas was 58 dB(A), showing more 3 dB(A) than the environmental criteria (55 dB(A)). The difference of noise level between day time and night time was approximately 5 to 7 dB(A) in all Area. The noise level of day time was not dependent on all seasons, whereas that night time is dependent on season, especially showing lower noise level in winter. Showing the changes on the times in a day, it reached the highest at 16:00, mainly resulting in a lot of activities of people. The maximum noise level (Lmax) from 3 or 4 military aircraft showed almost the same. The noise level of aircraft in Sangmu Area was 71.5∼78.1 WECPNL.

  • A new cross-linkable polymer, cross-linked d-PBAB, which has the triphenylamine as the hole transporting moiety and ethynyl group as the thermal cross-linker is firstly synthesized by the combination of anionic polymerization and deprotection process. The thermal cross-linking reaction was performed at $240^{\circ}C$ for 50 min and cross-linked d-PBAB layer showed smooth surface and is not soluble at organic solvent under spin-coating of emitting layer (EML). The solution-processed PLED which was fabricated with cross-linked d-PBAB as HTL showed approximately two times higher Lmax and four times higher LEmax than those obtained from PLED with PEDOT:PSS as the HTL. These result is ascribed to better ability of cross-linked d-PBAB to block electrons and to prevent exciton-quenching than those of PEDOT : PSS at the EML interface. This results strongly suggested that cross-linked d-PBAB can be a promising material to replace conventional PEDOT : PSS. It can be suspected that PLEDwith cross-linked d-PBAB would show longer lifetime compared with that of PLED with PEDOT : PSS, and thus further studies are under investigation.
