Residential Preferences by Occupation and Health Status for the Elderly (노인의 취업여부와 건강 상태에 따른 주거선호)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the residential preferences, the type of house, the size of living space, and the region for later life and contributing factors to their housing plan. The sample in this study consisted of 572 aged couple living in Korea. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies, means, X2test, logit analysis and multiple regression. The results could be summarized as follows. They preferred 31.2 pyung as living space, the single detacted house(81.1%) and living in middle-small cities or rural area. The present living space, present living area, satisfaction of economic status had significant effects on the living space in later life. Those who had a plan to live in the single detached house were affected by husband's educational attaintment, the type of present house, present and future living region. And the factors affecting furture living region were present living region, household income, household expenditure, total asset and preferred housing type. The affecting factors were different from future residential preferences by occupation and health status.

The Perception of Residential Problems and Satisfaction of Korean Elderly in Urban Area (노인이 인지하는 주거문제와 주거만족도에 관한연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze contributing factors to the perception of elderly's residential problems and satisfaction. The sample in this study consisted of 556 elderly husband and wives over 55 years old living in Seoul Daejeon Jeonju and Daegu. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies means one-way anova and umltiple regression analysis. The results could be summarized as follows. Deficiency of privacy was the worst status and then noise and air-pollution and the level of facilties in residential space. And the perception of residential problems could be affected by age health the type of family the number of family the ownership of house the type of house location and the economic status The significant variable positively related to the residential satisfaction were the healthy conditon of eldely ownership of house living in multihousing the perception of privacy and high level of facilities in the house.

Sick House/Building Syndrome in JAPAN -Current Status and Practical Research on Indoor Air Quality-

  • Many Japanese today are suffering from health disorders related to their living environment, such as allergies and hypersensitivity to chemical substances. The Sick House/Building Syndrome has been a serious problem since 1996, due to low level exposure to hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted in airtight houses. This paper aims to show current status of the syndrome in Japan and practical researches to promote prevention of, and improvement to indoor air pollution due to chemicals.

Attitudes and Preferences for Elderly Assisted Living according to Socio-economic Status (사회계층별 노인생활지원주택에 대한 태도와 선호)

  • The objectives of this study were 1) to analyze the attitudes about Elderly Assisted Living(EAL), 2) to consider the policy implications for elderly communal housing according to socio-economic status(income, occupation and education). The survey was undertaken from August to September, 2000 in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do(Ilsan, Bundang). The data were analyzed by SPSS Window program. The major findings were as follows: Most of the respondents prefered to live in EAL(over 56%), under 10 units and desired to be serviced(housework.leisure medical program.meal service). The upper class respondents preferred high-rise apartment style inner city or suburban and prefered paid services in EAL. They would willingly to pay over 800,000 won for living expenses and more than 200 million won for buying their own EAL. The middle class respondents prefered 5 stories multi-family house style with common facilities as a number. And they prefered to common facilities opening to public if the quality of facilities were better. The low class respondents prefered 5 stories multi-family house style and prefered to live within 30 minutes apart from their families and friends. They would pay under 300,000~600,000won for monthly living expenses and under 100 million won for their own EAL.

An Analysis of Time Use of Adults and Influencing Factors on It;-Paid Work, House Work, Child Caring, Leisure- (성인남녀의 생활시간 실태 및 결정요인 분석;-유급노동시간, 가사노동시간, 육아시간 및 여가시간-)

  • The purposes of this study were to explore amount of time use for paid work house work, child caring and leisure spent by adults and to explain its influencing factors. Tobit model was used to analyze the factors of time use because the amount of time use was a limited continuous variable. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Amount of time spent for paid work per day by adults was found to be 349 min. for men and 185 min. for women. Amount of time spent for house work was found to be 19min. for men and 155 min. for women. Amount of time spent for child caring was found to be 5min. for men and 40 min. for women. Amount of time spent for leisure was found to be 285 min. for men and 266 min. for women. 2) Time use for paid work was found to be significantly influenced by householder, age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, time limit and paid worker for women. Time use for house work was found to be significantly influenced by age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, age, marital status and paid worker for women. Time use for child caring was found to be significantly influenced by presence of kids and marital status for men and house, presence of kids, marital status and paid worker for women. Finally, Time use for leisure was found to be significantly influenced by car, time limit and paid worker for men and house, presence of kids, marital status, time limit and paid worker for women.

A study on the total housing cost of households living in rental house (임차가구의 주거비용에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the housing maintenance cost, imputed rent fee and total housing cost of households living in rental house, to analyze the factors related to their housing maintenance cost, imputed rent fee and total housing cost and to investigate the factors contributing to total housing cost to total household income ratio. The data used for these purposes, was 97 KHPS of Daewoo Economic Research Institute. Sample size of households living in rental house, was 663. Statistics performed for the analysis were frequencies, percentiles, t-test, Lorenz cutie and Gini coefficient, Tobit analysis, OLS and Logistic analysis. The results of this study were as fellows: First, monthly cost of monthly rent & maintenance and repairs of households living in rental house with a deposit was lower than rental house, while the imputed rent fee of households living rental house with a deposit was higher than monthly rent households'And, total housing cost of households living in rental house with a deposit was higher than monthly rent households'. Second, Gini coefficient of the housing maintenance cost was 0.440, Gini coefficient of imputed rent fee was 0.362, and Gini coefficient of total housing cost was 0.291. Third, the variables related to their housing maintenance cost were family type, total household expenditure of socio-demographic characteristics and residence, type of rent, housing type of housing environmental factor. Also, the variables contributing to imputed rent fee were job type and educational attainment of household hearts, the number of family members, total household expenditure, residence, type of rent, housing type and tole number of rooms. In addition, the variables associated with total housing cost were job type and educational attainment of household head, total household income and residence, type of rent, housing type and the number of room. Finally, age, job type, educational attainment of household head, wife's employment status, the number of family members, family type, total household expenditure, residence, rent type of rent, housing type, the size of living space, and the number of room were significant variables contributing to total household cost to total household income ratio.

A Study on the Utilization Status of Community Living Facilities in Rural Area (농어촌지역 공동생활시설 이용실태 고찰)

  • The housing environment of the weak class in rural area is inferior, the elderly ratio is high, and senior citizens whose living by themselves are increasing. This study was to analyze the actual conditions of utilization status, characterization of residency, management method of the federation of construction associate's love house and local government's case, and usage of the village hall. For better study, we reviewed the literatures and conducted field surveys. The purpose of this study is to suggest a development plan of rural community living homes. The results of this study were as follows; First, it is important for proper site of rural community living home plans to select adjacent location in the surrounding medical and welfare facilities(including community facilities). Second, the living space for one person does not need such a space; about $33m^2$ is suitable. Third, it is important to use surplus area to make kitchen garden in the site planning. Also the architectural plans must be considered to minimize the maintenance costs for the sustainability of the house and winter heating expense problem.

A Study on the Living Status of Widowed and Unwidowed Elderly Women Based on the Self-Report (자기 진술에 의한 유.무배우 여자노인의 생활실태)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the living status of widowed and unwidowed elderly women by means of the case study employing in depth interviews. The main results are following : First, In the case of economic status of elderly women was very low: widowed, it was significantly low. The allowances were provided by their children. And they were spent for medical expenses¬Second, Most elderly women have one or two chronic diseases, mostly Arthritis, Gastritis, Hyperpiesia. Third, The emotional relationship of the elderly women centered around their children. Fourth, Leisure activities of the elderly women were not partially formed, usually T.V. watching, chatting, playing Korea cards. Fifth, The elderly women wanted most to work for house chores, do light exercises, and to earn pocket money. Sixth, The wish for the goverment was financial support! health support! and emotional welfare support.

Preference of elderly housing characteristics depending on middle ages background (중년층의 배경변인에 따른 노인주거특성에 대한 선호)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the middle-aged housewive's background characteristics influencing on the preference of elderly housing, depending on four aging-situations. The characteristics of the elderly housing dealt in thes study were geographical location. specially planned feature for the elderly, house type, the size of housing, housemate, the distance from the living quarter of their children, and whether they want to live in the rental house. The subject were 526 middle-aged housewives from middle-income householde living in the capital area. Questionnaires were sent through mail to the householde which tesponded positively on the information brochure about this study sent before. The characteristics of the elderly housing which perferred to was influenced by their age and socio-economic status, such as schooling, job, income, and the size of housing. This result suggests that it must be considered to develop various types of the elderly housing depending on socio-economic status.
