가금을 이용한 동물 바이오모델: 총설 (Application of Animal Biomodel using Poultry: A Review)

  • Chicken not only serves as a high-protein source to humans, but it is also used as a suitable biomodel for increasing livestock productivity and studying human diseases. Chickens have numerous advantages as model organisms mainly because of they are relatively convenient to manage due to their small body size and short generational interval. In addition, they have a small genome size and numerous genes have biologically similar functions to those of human and livestock animals. In this review, we investigated the chicken biomodel for human disease research and the use of this model for increasing livestock productivity. This summary could provide useful and basic information for further development of strategies for enhancing livestock production and human disease studies.

  • Leucaena leucocephala (lam. de Wit) is a multipurpose leguminous tree/shrub, promoted extensively for reforestation and rural development programmes, as well as in ruminant production. After a year of establishment in the plots, the overall leaves and twigs yield was on average 0.92 kg/plant, containing an average 23.34, 10.61, 5.32 and 10.13 percent CP, CF, and ash, respectively. The proximate and mineral compositions are affected by factors such as stage of maturity, type of cultivar, seasons, cutting intervals, different plant parts. Though leucaena contains toxic mimosine and tannins, these are not always deleterious for ruminants and rumen microbes can often degrade toxic factors into a nontoxic utilizable product Mimosine content is generally higher in the seed than other plant parts. Leucaena supplementation in ruminant ration showed higher digestibility co-efficient of proximate component, which may results in higher productivity. Considering its productivity, composition and nutritive value. L. Leucocephala could be more widely used as a protein source for ruminants in tropical and sub-tropical countries.

중부지방에서 봄과 가을재배 연맥의 숙기군별 생육특성 및 수량성 (Growth Characters and Productivity of Early- and Medium-Maturing Oat Varieties Sown in Spring and Autumn at Central Districts of Korea)

  • Selection of oat variety according to cultivation period is an important to increase productivity of forage crop. To investigate the growth characters and dry matter productivity of oats according to cultivation period, early-maturing oat(EM0) and medium-maturing oat(MM0) variety were sown in spring and autumn at central district of Korea. When oats were cultivated in spring, MMO variety was longer 8 cm in leaf length and wider 5 mm in leaf width than 25 cm and 12 mm of EM0 variety, rexpectively. but in autumn, those were not different between maturities of oat varieties. Plant length of MMO variety was longer 7 cm than that of EM0 Variety in spring cultivation, but in autumn, plant length of EM0 variety was longer 14 cm than that of MMO variety. Heading dates were 20th to 22th May in EM0 variety, and 30th May to 10th June in MMO variety in spring cultivation, and ear of EM0 variety emerged 30th Oct. to loth Nov. but that of MMO variety did not emerge at harvesting day in autumn cultivation. In Spring cultivation, dry matter(DM) yield of EM0 variety was 7,349 kg/ha that was less 56% than 11,466 kg/ha of MMO variety, but In Autumn, was more 15% than 6,575 kg/ha of MMO variety. In conclusion, selection of oat variety in spring and autumn cultivation can be different with cropping system of forage crop, and this trial is suggesting that oat variety could be sown MMO variety in spring and EM0 variety in autumn at central district of Korea. 유비쿼터스 축사 구현을 위한 스마트폰 어플리케이션 개발 (SmartPhone-based Application Development for the Implementation of the Ubiquitous Livestock Barn)

  • 현재 스마트폰과 애플리케이션은 우리의 생활에 커다란 변화를 가져오고 있으며, 농업 분야에 적용할 경우 농업의 부가가치와 생산성 향상 및 다양한 활용이 가능할 것으로 기대된다. 본 논문에서는 언제 어디서나 실시간으로 축사를 모니터링하거나 관리할 수 있는 스마트폰 어플리케이션을 제안하고자 한다. 제안하는 어플리케이션은 무선 센서 네트워크 기반 유비쿼터스 축사에서 수집된 축사의 환경정보 및 영상정보를 사용자가 스마트폰을 활용하여 실시간으로 축사를 모니터링 할 수 있으며, 언제 어디서나 스마트폰을 이용하여 축사시설을 제어할 수 있다. 제안하는 어플리케이션은 축사시설 제어를 가능하게 하여 사용자의 편의를 제공하고 생산량을 증대시킬 수 있다.

Productivity increase and odor reduction effect of fermented barley sprout extract in broiler farms

  • The current study examined the impact of fermented barley sprout extract prepared using lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus sp.) in decreasing odor and increasing livestock productivity and measured the difference in the polyphenol and flavonoid contents of the extract after fermentation. Furthermore, the effectiveness of fermented barley sprout extract was evaluated through order level and production index of livestock by supplying it to a broiler house. The results showed that with fermented barley sprout extract, the polyphenol and flavonoid contents were increased significantly by 174% and 562%, respectively. When the extract was applied as an additive to drinking water in the test farm, the productivity improved by about 10%, the mortality rate was reduced by about 66%, and there was a significant decrease in odor by about 80%. Compared with the control group, the production index increased by about 21%, the feed requirement decreased by about 8%, the odor showed a decrease in the NH3 level, and no other gas was detected. It was observed that lactic acid bacteria settle in the intestine, suppress the proliferation of bacteria that cause diarrhea and enteritis, and help digestion. The lactic acid bacteria effectively remove bad odor gases such as NH3, Amines, H2S and CH4S. Such odor reduction improves productivity. Our findings provide valuable information for quality water supply, production optimization and livestock management.

  • The application of gene engineering in livestock is necessary for various reasons, such as increasing productivity and producing disease resistance and biomedicine models. Overall, gene engineering provides benefits to the agricultural and research aspects, and humans. In particular, productivity can be increased by producing livestock with enhanced growth and improved feed conversion efficiency. In addition, the application of the disease resistance models prevents the spread of infectious diseases, which reduces the need for treatment, such as the use of antibiotics; consequently, it promotes the overall health of the herd and reduces unexpected economic losses. The application of biomedicine could be a valuable tool for understanding specific livestock diseases and improving human welfare through the development and testing of new vaccines, research on human physiology, such as human metabolism or immune response, and research and development of xenotransplantation models. Gene engineering technology has been evolving, from random, time-consuming, and laborious methods to specific, time-saving, convenient, and stable methods. This paper reviews the overall trend of genetic engineering technologies development and their application for efficient production of genetically engineered livestock, and provides examples of technologies approved by the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for application in humans.

도입 베치의 품종에 따른 생육특성 및 생산성 비교 연구 (Studies on the comparison of Agronomic Characteristics and Productivity in Induced Vetch Cultivar)

  • 본 시험은 우리나라에 도입된 베치류를 중부지방에서 재배하여 수량 및 생육특성 조사를 통하여 월동성이 높은 품종을 구명하기 위하여 1999년부터 2000년까지 축산기술연구소 초지사료과 시험포장에서 수행하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 공시된 8 품종중에서 Namoi, Victa, Aneto의 경우는 전 주수가 동사한 것으로 나타났으며 월동된 품종의 개화기는 자운영이 가장 빨랐으며 Common품종이 5월 22일로 가장 늦었다. 평균 건물함량은 14.7%로 낮게 나타났다. 조단백질 함량은 평균 20.9%를 나타내었으며 Common이 23.1%로 가장 높았고 자운영의 경우는 18.0%로 가장 낮았다. ADF 및 NDF 함량은 평균 33.5 및 42.1% 이었으며 상대사료가치는 1등급 이상으로 나타났다. 베치류의 생산성은 월동성에 따라 많은 차이를 보였는데 Common 품종의 건물 수량이 8,664kg/ha. 가장 높았으며 Haymaker plus가 5,756kg/ha로 우수한 편이었으며 Cappelo및 Popany품종은 각각 3,004 및 2,114kg/ha를 보여 생산성이 떨어졌다. 조단백질 및 TDN 수량에 있어서도 월동율이 가장 높았던 Hairy vetch "Common" 품종에서 수량이 높게 나타나 월동성에 따른 생산성의 차이가 많아 우선적으로 월동성이 고려된 후에 베치류의 도입이 고려되어야 할 것으로 판단되었다.

  • 본 실험은 혼파초지에서 봄철 1차 이용시기와 1차 이용후 재생기간에 따른 목초의 일당 건물생산량, 경엽분포비율, 일반성분함량 및 세포벽 구성물질 등에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 1차 이용시기(주구)를 영양생장기(초장 25-30cm), 절간신장기(초장 40~50cm) 및 출수기(초장 60~70cm)로 하고 1차 이용후 재생기간(세구)을 20, 30 및 40일로 하여 1987년도와 1988년도 2개년에 걸쳐 실시하였다. 1차 이용시 일당생산량은 늦게 이용할수록 증가하나 2차 이용후부터는 감소하여 1차 이용을 빨리 하는 것이 좋았으며, 재생기간은 건물생산량 측면에서 20일은 너무 짧고 40일은 너무 길어 30일이 가장 유리하였다. 목초 경엽분포비율은 1차 이용을 일찍 할수록, 1차 이용후 재생기간을 짧게 할수록 잎의 비율은 증가하고 줄기의 비율은 감소하여 사료가치는 증진되었다. 목장의 사료가치(일반성분함량과 제포벽구성물질)도 1차 이용을 영양생장기로 일찍 할수록, 1차 이용후 재생기간을 짧게 할수록 증가하였다. 조사자질생산량은 1차이용을 늦게 할수록 증가되었으나 2차 이용시부터는 상살되었으며, 재생기간 30일에서 조사자질생산량은 가장 많았다. 이상의 결과로서 초지에서 목초의 양호한 재생, 건물생산성, 수절생산성 및 사료가치 등을 고려해볼 때 봄철 1차 이용은 가급적 일찍하는 것이, 그리고 1차 이용후 재생기간은 1차 이용시기에 관계 없이 30일 정도로 하는 것이 가장 바람직하다고 생각된다.

A Research Review of Village Chicken Production Constraints and Opportunities in Zimbabwe

  • Development of village chicken production can be a sustainable way of helping to meet the welfare needs of rural populations and raise their living standards. There is a dearth of information on research conducted to characterize, understand and develop the village chicken production systems in Zimbabwe. This review focuses on constraints, opportunities and research needs for the improvement of village chicken productivity in Zimbabwe. Village chicken production in Zimbabwe is extensive and dominated by indigenous chickens that exhibit remarkable adaptation to local environments. The multitude functions of village chickens, which include the provision of high quality protein meat and eggs, cash through sales and socio-cultural roles, are discussed in detail. Human gender aspects in village chicken production are highlighted. The factors that hamper village chicken productivity are reviewed together with opportunities and research needs. The major constraints include shortage of feed, poor health and housing management. Any improvements in these constraints may lead to sustainable increase in village chicken productivity.
