  • In these days, 360 degree videos, which is provided via VR, have high resolution and quality of 8K. These kinds of videos inevitably require streaming technology which guarantees QoS. Therefore, we suggest MPEG DASH HTTP protocol which stably provides streaming services of high quality videos in 8K, which are 360 degree tile-encoded, on low-spec devices such as OTT and IPTV Settop and Tile Segment Cache management structure for servers operating streaming services.

  • Objectives: This study was done to identify health and functional status of rural elders, to identify the use of health and medical treatment and welfare services in order to present directions for improving use of health and welfare services by rural elders. Methods: The participants in the study were 170 elders over 65 years of age who live in the one of the 6 villages served by the Young Am Community Health Post. The elders were visited at home and interviewed the elders using the RAI tool. Descriptive statistics including frequency and range were used to analyze the data. Results: Limitations in physical function, finances and medical treatment service were identified. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate a need to develop good quality service which is affordable and convenient.

  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a vital instrument for delivering a number of services such as education, healthcare and public services. Community wireless networks are community-centric telecommunication infrastructure developed to provide affordable communication for those who live in remote areas. This chapter discusses the role of Nepal Wireless in achieving socio economic development of rural communities by facilitating affordable Internet access. We analyze the challenges Nepal Wireless faced and articulate on the approaches it took to address those challenges such as lack of technical skills, appropriate technology and funding, difficult geographical terrains, unstable political situation, and expensive devices. In addition, we address the success and failure factors of this community-based ICT4D approach in order to guide similar endeavors. We conclude the chapter by some suggestions for policy makers, community developers, and academicians.

  • With the arrival of 3rd generation cellular networks it is expected that a lot of new cellular services will be available to the mobile users like video calling, location based services etc. Similarly MBMS is one such service which is targeted for 3G mobile users for viewing talk shows, live sport events etc. One shall view this service like a small portable T.V being carried by the mobile user. The user watches the programs of his liking by joining if he wishes. In this paper we focus on the possible UTRAN architectures to provide MBMS service within UMIS networks. The paper primarily focuses on the requirement aspect, notification aspect and the mobility aspect. The paper lists many options for notifications and elaborates on them in terms of pros and cons. In the end the paper conclude with an UTRAN architecture for MBMS service which meets the requirements of this service as well as makes minimum changes to the existing UTRAN architecture while attempting to save terminal power for this service.

  • In an upcoming ubiquitous era, humankind will live in a ubiquitous space, where everything is connected through communication network. In this ubiquitous space, a ubiquitous robot, which can be used by anyone for any service through any device and any network at anytime and anywhere in a u-space, is expected to be required to serve seamless and context-aware services to humankind. In this paper, we introduce the ubiquitous robot, and define three components of the ubiquitous robot. The first one is "SoBot" which can be connected through the network in anywhere with environment recognition function and communication ability with human. The second one is "EmBot" which is embedded into environments and mobile robots and has localization and certification function with sensor fusion. The last one is "Mobile Robot" which serves overall physical services. This paper also introduces KAIST ITRC-Intelligent Robot Research Center that pursues the implementation of the ubiquitous robot.

  • With the ever-increasing frequency of public sector and smalls-cale industries going live on the internet in developing countries, their security of which, while crucial, is often overlooked in most cases. This is especially true in Government services, whilst essential, are poorly monitored if at all. This is due to lack of funds and personnel. Most available software which can help these organizations monitor their services are either expensive or very outdated. Thus, there is a need for any developing country to develop a networking monitoring system. However, developing a network monitoring system is still a challenge and expensive and out sourcing network monitoring system to third party is a security threat. Therefore, in this article we propose a method to anonymize network logs and outsource networking monitoring system to third-party without breach in integrity of their network logs.

  • Recently, SDN and NFV technology have been developed actively and provide enormous flexibility of network provisioning. The future network services would generally involve many different types of services such as hologram games, social network live streaming videos and cloud-computing services, which have dynamic service requirements. To provision networks for future services dynamically and efficiently, SDN/NFV orchestrators must clearly understand the service requirements. Currently, network provisioning relies heavily on QoS parameters such as bandwidth, delay, jitter and throughput, and those parameters are necessary to describe the network requirements of a service. However it is often difficult for users to understand and use them proficiently. Therefore, in order to maintain interoperability and homogeneity, it is required to have a service abstraction layer between users and orchestrators. The service abstraction layer analyzes ambiguous user's requirements for the desired services, and this layer generates corresponding refined services requirements. In this paper, we present our initial effort to design a Smart Service Abstraction Layer (SmSAL) for future network architecture, which takes advantage of machine learning method to analyze ambiguous and abstracted user-friendly input parameters and generate corresponding network parameters of the desired service for better network provisioning. As an initial proof-of-concept implementation for providing viability of the proposed idea, we implemented SmSAL with a decision tree model created by learning process with previous service requests in order to generate network parameters related to various audio and video services, and showed that the parameters are generated successfully.

  • This study conducted a survey of residents living in senior housing in the outskirts of Tokyo metropolitan area where the demand for senior housing is rising. The study examined their motives for moving into senior housing, criteria for housing selection, and their degree of satisfaction with living in senior housing. The analysis results are as follows. First, the majority of respondents gave reasons for moving into senior housing such as wanting to live with more comfort and freedom and not wanting to live with their spouse any longer. Second, in choosing conditions their senior housing, the respondents put priority on the credibility of a management company, and they also valued easy accessibility to the place. In addition, they wanted the environment to be suitable for a stroll. Third, as for the degree of satisfaction with the living facilities, the respondents expressed dissatisfaction with kitchen and storage areas most frequently. This suggests that it is necessary to consider the physical characteristics of elderly people when planning senior housing by securing kitchen facilities that support independent living and provide more storage space. Fourth, in terms of the level of satisfaction with residential services, the respondents were quite content with their consulting services, response to their complaints, and the surrounding environment. However, they were less satisfied with events organized by the management company, or the in-house medical service.
