BF3LiMA기반 자기-도핑형 겔 고분자 전해질의 전기화학적 특성에 미치는 리튬이온 농도의 영향 (Effect of Lithium Ion Concentration on Electrochemical Properties of BF3LiMA-based Self-doping Gel Polymer Electrolytes)

  • 전해액 상용성의 boron trifluoride lithium methacrylate ($BF_3$LiMA)를 기본으로 하는 겔 고분자 전해질 (gel polymer electrolytes, GPE)에서 $BF_3$LiMA의 농도가 이온전도도, 전기화학적 안정성에 미치는 영향을 AC impedance 측정법과 linear sweep voltammetry (LSV)를 통하여 평가하였다. 그 결과 $BF_3$LiMA가 4wt% (고분자함량 21 wt%)일 때, 상온 이온전도도가 $5.3{\times}10^{-4}Scm^{-1}$로서 가장 높게 관찰되었으며 4 wt% 전후로 다시 감소하였다. $BF_3$LiMA 기반의 GPE는 음이온이 고정되어 있는 자기-도핑형 계열로서 우수한 전기화학적 안정성을 확인하였다. 한편 $BF_3$LiMA 기반 GPE는 리튬금속과 비교적 불안정한 계면반응성을 보여주었지만 흑연/GPE/흑연, LCO/GPE/LCO에서는 높은 계면안정성을 형성하였다. 따라서 $BF_3$LiMA 기반의 GPE를 통하여 높은 상온 이온전도도와 전기화학적 안정성 및 흑연과 LCO 양극산화물에 대한 우수한 계면특성을 확보할 수 있었다.

다양한 표면처리에 따른 리튬이온 이차전지용 파우치 필름을 위한 접착성에 관한 연구 (Study of Adhesion according to Various Surface Treatments for Lithium Ion Secondary Battery Pouch Film)

  • Pouch film is manufactured by laminating aluminum foil, polyamide film and polypropylene film with an adhesive or extrusion resin. However, a surface treatment is required for the aluminum because bonding does not occur easily between the aluminum foil and the polymer film. Thus, for this study, surface treatment experiments were performed in order to confirm the effect on adhesion strength. First, a variety of surface treatment solutions were coated on aluminum foil, and contact angle and surface morphology analysis was carried out for the surface-treated aluminum. For lamination of the surface-treated aluminum foil with polyamide film, a polyurethane base adhesive was prepared for the adhesive strength test specimens. The adhesive strength between the aluminum foil and the polyamide film of the resulting specimens was measured (UTM). With such an experiment, it was possible to evaluate the effect on adhesive strength of the various surface treatments.

바이모달트램용 LPB팩에 적용될 Battery Management System 개발 (Development of BMS applying to LPB Pack in Bimodal Tram)

  • Bimodal Tram developed by KRRI is driven by a series Hybrid propulsion system which has both the CNG engine, generator and LPB(Lithium Polymer Battery) pack. It has three driving modes; Hybrid mode, Engine mode and Battery mode. Even in case of Battery mode, LPB pack to get enough power to drive the vehicle only by itself onsists of 168 LPB cells(80Ah per lcell), 650V. It is important thing to manage LPB pack in a right way, which will extend the lifetime of LPB cells and operate in the hybrid mode effectively. This paper has shown the development of battery management system(12 BMS, 1 BMS per 14cells) to manage LPB pack which is connected with CAN(Controller Area Network) each other and measure the voltage, current, temperature and also control the cooling fan inside of LPB pack. Using the measured data, BMS can show the SOC(State of Charge), SOH(State of Health) and other status of LPB pack including of the cell balancing.

휴대전화기용 아연공기전지 개발 (Development of Zinc Air Battery for Cellular Phone)

  • In recent years, the rapid growth of portable electronic devices requires the high-energy density characteristics of batteries. Zinc air batteries have specific capacity as high as 820mAh/g. However, Zinc air batteries used for hearing aid applications only so far, because the atmosphere could affect it, and it has weakness in the rate capability. However, recent developments of electrode manufacturing technologies made us to overcome that weakness. And the efforts of applying zinc air batteries to portable electronic devices, especially in cellular phone application have been increased. In this paper, the effects of conducting material and polymer binder in cathode on the electrochemical characteristics were investigated. Our research team succeeded in producing 2.4Ah class zinc air battery for cellular phone application. Its volumetric energy density was 920 wh/l, and gravimetric energy density was 308 wh/kg. The volumetric energy density of our zinc air battery is two times higher than one of lithium secondary battery, and three times higher than that of alkaline manganese battery.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. We investigated the effects of lithium salts, plasticizer addition, temperature dependence of conductivity and electrochemical stability window of polyethylene oxide(PEO) electrolytes. PEO electrolyte completed with LiCIO$\_$4/ shows the better conductivity than the others. PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, when EO/Li$\^$+/ ratio is 8, showed adequate conductivity around room temperature. By adding propylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate to PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, its conductivity was higher than that of PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ without those. Also PEO$\_$8/LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte remains stable up to 4.5V vs. Li/Li.

Nanostructured Polymer Electrolytes for Li-Batteries and Fuel Cells

  • There are rising demands for developing more efficient energy materials to stem the depletion of fossil fuels, which have prompted significant research efforts on proton exchange fuel cells (PEFCs) and lithium ion batteries (LIBs). To date, both PEFCs and LIBs are being widely developed to power small electronics, however, their utilization to medium-large sized electric power resources such as vehicle and stationary energy storage systems still appears distant. These technologies increasingly rely upon polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) that transport ions from the anode to the cathode to balance the flow of electrons in an external circuit, and therefore play a central role in determining the efficiency of the devices; as ion transport is a kinetic bottleneck compared to electrical conductivity, enormous efforts have been devoted to improving the transport properties of PEMs. In present study, we carried out an in-depth analysis of the morphology effects on transport properties of PEMs. How parameters such as self-assembled nanostructures, domain sizes, and domain orientations affect conductivities of PEMs will be presented.

Synthesis of LiFePO4 nano-fibers for cathode materials by electrospinning process

  • Nano-fibers of LiFePO4 were synthesized from a metal oxide precursor by adopting electrospinning method. After calcination of the above precursor nano-fibers at 800 ℃, LiFePO4 nano-fibers with a diameter of 300 ~ 800 nm, were successfully obtained. Measurement were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), videoscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM), respectively, were performed to characterize the properties of the as-prepared materials. The results showed that the crystalline phase and morphology of the fibers were largely influenced the starting materials and electrospinning conditions.

  • 1991년 lithium-ion battery(LIB)가 상용화된 이후, 초기 전해질은 주로 lithium cobalt oxide($LiCoO_2$) 양극과 graphite 음극의 특성에 집중되어 연구되어 왔다. 또한 전극과 전해질 간의 적합성에 대한 다양한 연구들이 이들 간의 계면에서 활발히 진행되었다. 이후 Si, Sn 등의 비탄소계 음극소재와 3성분(Ni, Mn, Co)계, spinel, olivine 등의 양극 소재를 리튬 2차전지에 채용하려 함에 따라 기존 전해질 재료들도 많은 도전에 직면하게 되었다. 특히, 안전성 문제가 최근 심각하게 부각됨에 따라 전해질의 요구특성은 점점 복잡해지고 까다로워지고 있다. 본 고에서는 이러한 전극소재 변화에 따른 전해질 소재의 다양한 변화와 그 특성에 대하여 구성요소 별로 연구 및 개발 동향을 정리하였다.

High power lithium ion polymer batteries (IV): Nano-sized cathode materials manufactured in a single synthetic step using united eutectic self-mixing method

  • Nano-sized cathode materials for high power lithium ion polymer battery are easily and economically prepared using united eutectic self-mixing method without any artificial mixing procedures of reactants and ultra-miniaturization of products. While the micro-sized $LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$ exhibits the discharge capacities of 167.8 mAh/g at 0.1C and 142.5 mAh/g at 3.0C, those of the nano-sized $LiNi_{0.7}Co_{0.3}O_2$ are 170.8 mAh/g at 0.1C and 159.3 mAh/g at 3.0C. In the case of $LiCoO_2$, the micro-sized $LiCoO_2$ exhibits the discharge capacities of 134.8 mAh/g at 0.1C and 118.6 mAh/g at 5.0C. Differently, the nano-sized $LiCoO_2$ exhibits the discharge capacities of 137.2 mAh/g at 0.1C and 131.7 mAh/g at 5.0C.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop $Li_xV_3O_8$ composite cathode for lithium polymer battery. We investigated electrochemical, interfacial properties and charge/discharge cycling of $Li_xV_3O_8$/SPE/Li cell. The radius of semicircle associated with the interfacial resistance of $Li_xV_3O_8$/SPE/Li cell increased very slowly during discharge process from 100% SOC to 90% SOC. And then the cell resistance was increased at discharge process from 10% SOC to 0% SOC. The discharge capacity based on $Li_xV_3O_8$ was 212mAh/g at 15th cycle. The $Li_xV_3O_8$/SPE/Li cell has a good properties.
