  • The large particles of suspended matter in raw water can be removed by allowing them to settle out in a presedimentation basin. But there are smaller particles in almost all surface water and some groundwater that will not settle out within a reasonable time without some help to accelerate the process, In the coagulation and flocculation processes, nonsettleable solids are converted into large and heavier settleable solids by physical-chemical changes broght about by adding and mixing coagulant chemicals into the raw water. The object of this research was to improve corrective injection method for low dissolution liquid in the water treatment plant. A sort of chemical feed equipment are diaphram pump, flow control in combined magnetic flowmeter md control valve, roto dipper wheel system and tube pump. Particularly low dissolution liquid (Calcium Hydroxide) put in a bit by feed equipment, tube pump is very useful method for corrective injection method in the water treatment plant.

  • The effects of 0.1g/dl nonionic surfactant solutions on liquid wetting and retention properties of wool fabric are reported. The 10 different nonionic surfactants (Span 20, Tween 20, 40, 60, 80, 21, 61, 81, 65, 85), wool cloth (EMPA 217), and wool soiled cloth (EMPA 107) are used in the study. Both EMPA 217 and 107 have water contact angle($\Theta$)>$90^{\circ}$, which indicates that water spreading over a fabric surface and penetration into the fabric rarely occur. However, EMPA 217 and 107 are easily wetted with perchloroethylene(PCE) having very low values of $\Theta$'s and high values of liquid retention. Water wetting properties are greatly improved by adding nonionic surfactants into the system. Generally, hydrophilic surfactants which have low number of carbon atoms or unsaturated hydrophobic structures are effective in improving water wetting of wool fabrics. The water retention of EMPA 217 and 107 in surfactant solutions have positive relations with $cos{\Theta}$, adhesion tension, and work of adhesion. 40.3% pore volume of EMPA 217 and 26.1% pore volume of EMPA 217 can be filled with water even when we assume $cos{\Theta}=1$ (${\Theta}=0^{\circ}$).

  • According to KS F 2560, water-reducing agents used when mixing concrete are to undergo quality evaluation testing slump, air contents, setting time, etc., when delivered from the admixture factory to the ready mixed concrete site. Yet in actual acceptance testing this could be substituted by the score report of the admixture company, in which a possibility of low reliability lies. Therefore this study sought to analyze whether by artificially changing the solid content rate of lignin- and naphthalene-based water-reducing agents and using a liquid densimeter evaluate the quality of the admixture. The results showed that the Type B liquid densimeter was most appropriate and 50cc the most appropriate capacity for the mass cylinder. Also, judging from the changes in density and pH according to the changes in solid content rate, it concludes that a rapid appraisal of the quality of lignin- and naphthalene-based water-reducing agents would be possible using a Type B liquid densimeter.

  • Analytical methods were developed to determine cyclosulfamuron residues in soil, water, rice grain and straw using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet absorption detection. In these methods, cyclosulfamuron was extracted with aqueous $Na_2HPO_4$/acetone and acetone/methanol mixture from soil and rice samples respectively. Liquid-liquid partition coupled with ion-associated technique, Florisil column chromatography, and solid-phase extraction (SPE) were used to separate cyclosulfamuron from interfering co-extractives prior to HPLC analysis. For water sample, the residue was enriched in $C_{18}$-SPE cartridge, cleaned up in situ, and directly subjected to HPLC. Reverse-phase HPLC under ion-suppression was successfully applied to determine cyclo-sulfamuron in sample extracts with the detection at its ${\lambda}_{max}$ (254 nm). Recoveries from fortified samples averaged $87.8{\pm}7.1%$ (n=12), $97.3{\pm}7.2%$ (n=12), $90.8{\pm}6.6%$ (n=6), and $78.5{\pm}6.7%$ (n=6) for soil, water, rice grain and straw, respectively. Detection limits of the methods were 0.004 mg/kg, 0.001 mg/L, 0.01 mg/kg and 0.02 mg/kg for soil, water, rice grain and straw samples, respectively.

  • A novel method was developed for the speciation of chromium in natural water samples based on homogeneous liquid-liquid extraction and determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). In this method, Cr(III) reacts with a new Schiff's base ligand to form the hydrophobic complex, which is subsequently entrapped in the sediment phase, whereas Cr(VI) remained in aqueous phase. The Cr(VI) assay is based on its reduction to Cr(III) by the addition of sodium sulfite to the sample solution. Thus, separation of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) could be realized. Homogeneous liquid-liquid extraction based on the pH-independent phase-separation process was investigated using a ternary solvent system (water-tetrabutylammonium ion ($TBA^+$)-chloroform) for the preconcentration of chromium. The phase separation phenomenon occurred by an ion-pair formation of TBA and perchlorate ion. Then sedimented phase was separated using a $100\;{\mu}L$ micro-syringe and diluted to 1.0 mL with ethanol. The sample was introduced into the flame by conventional aspiration. After the optimization of complexation and extraction conditions such as pH = 9.5, [ligand] = $1.0{\times}10^{-4}\;M$, [$TBA^+$] = $2.0{\times}10^{-2}\;M$, [$CHCl_3$] = $100.0\;{\mu}L$ and [$ClO_4$] = $2.0{\times}10{-2}\;M$, a preconcentration factor (Va/Vs) of 100 was obtained for only 10 mL of the sample. The relative standard deviation was 2.8% (n = 10). The limit of detection was sufficiently low and lie at ppb level. The proposed method was applied for the extraction and determination of chromium in natural water samples with satisfactory results.

  • A series of Quasi-Elastic Neutron Scattering (QENS) experiments helps us to understand the single-particle (hydrogen atom) dynamics of a globular protein and its hydration water and strong coupling between them. We also performed Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations on a realistic model of the hydrated hen-egg Lysozyme powder having two proteins in the periodic box. We found the existence of a Fragile-to-Strong dynamic Crossover (FSC) phenomenon in hydration water around a protein occurring at TL=$225{\pm}5K$ by analyzing Intermediate Scattering Function (ISF). On lowering of the temperature toward FSC, the structure of hydration water makes a transition from predominantly the High Density Liquid (HDL) form, a more fluid state, to predominantly the Low Density Liquid (LDL) form, a less fluid state, derived from the existence of a liquid?liquid critical point at an elevated pressure. We showed experimentally and confirmed theoretically that this sudden switch in the mobility of the hydration water around a protein triggers the dynamic transition (so-called glass transition) of the protein, at a temperature TD=220 K. Mean Square Displacement (MSD) is the important factor to show that the FSC is the key to the strong coupling between a protein and its hydration water by suggesting TL${\fallingdotseq}$TD. MD simulations with TIP4P force field for water were performed to understand hydration level dependency of the FSC temperature. We added water molecules to increase hydration level of the protein hydration water, from 0.30, 0.45, 0.60 and 1.00 (1.00 is the bulk water). These confirm the existence of the FSC and the hydration level dependence of the FSC temperature: FSC temperature is decreased upon increasing hydration level. We compared the hydration water around Lysozyme, B-DNA and RNA. Similarity among those suggests that the FSC and this coupling be universal for globular proteins, biopolymers.

  • Even if odorous compounds remain very low concentration in water, it cause strong odor. Because Geosmin and most of odorous compound had very low vaporization, those were difficult to analyze with GC/MSD and Purge & Trap. So, we needed pre-treatment method for decreasing amounts of extracting solvents, improving recovery efficiencies and increasing analytical efficiencies. This study developed efficient technology for analyzing odorous compounds, using various adsorbents and extracting solvents. The optimum adsorbent was XAD resins. Especially, XAD-2, XAD-7 and XAD-2010 were superior, but XAD-2 of these and the optimum extraction solvent is MTBE. Other extraction solvents' efficiency is in order of MTBE>Dichloromethane>n-Hexane>Diethylether. The optimum NaCl dosage for increasing efficiency is 5 g in liquid-liquid extraction method. The shaking time(0~24hr) has no concern with adsorption efficiency. The optimum adsorbent is XAD-2 resin and extraction solvent is MTBE. Dosing NaCl, adsorption efficiency is increased in liquid-liquid extraction method, but NaCl has no effect on liquid-solid extraction method. In this experimental results, this algae toxins(Mycrocystin, Anatoxin etc.).

  • The interaction and detergency between liquid oily soil and surfactant solution were studied by the mechanism of formation of liquid crestal(LC). Samples used were triolein as a triglyceride, oleic acid as a free fatty acid and sodium dodgily sulfate (SDS) as a surfactant. The results were as follows: In the phase diagram of SDS/oil/Water system, the area of liquid crystalline phase region were in the order of SDS/trillion/water< SDS/oleic acid/water< SDS/mixture of trillion and oleic acid/water. In the system of oleic acid alone or mixture of trillion and oleic acid contacted with SDS solution, the LC phase was formed right after or after some time with SDS concentration. But in a case of trillion alone, the LC phase was not formed although the concentration of the SDS solution was relatively high. The detergency of model oily soils were seldom changed with temperature, and the detergency of oleic acid was very high compared to that of the trillion. The detergency of mixed soil was improved with the increase of the ratio of oleic acid in the mixture.
