We fabricated a closed coils by using resistive-joint method and the joint resistance of the coils were estimated by field decay technique in liquid nitrogen. We used the Runge-kutta method for the numerical analysis to calculate the decay properties. The closed coil was wound by $(Bi,Pb)_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$/Ag tape. Both ends the tape were overlapped and soldered to each other. The current was induced in a closed coils by external magnetic flux density. Its decay characteristic was observed by means of measuring the magnetic flux density generated by induced current at the center of the closed coil with hall sensor. The joint resistance was calculated as the ratio of the inductance of the loop to the time constants. The joint resistances were evaluated as a function of critical current of loop, contact length, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density in a contact length of 7 cm. It was observed that joint resistance was dependent on contact length of a closed coil, but independent of critical current, sweep time, and external magnetic flux density. The joint resistance was measured to be higher for a standard four-probe method, compared with that for the field decay technique. This implies that noise of measurement in a standard four-probe method is larger than that of field decay technique. It was estimated that joint resistance was $8.0{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ to $11.4{\times}10^{-9}{\Omega}$ for coils of contact length for 7 cm. It was found that 40Pb/60Sn solder are unsuitable for persistent mode.

On the other hand, the fiber orientation at the surface and middle layer of the sheet controls the bending stiffness of paperboard. Therefore, a reliable measurement of paper surface fiber orientation gives us a magnificent tool to investigate and predict paper curling and cockling tendency, and provides the necessary information to fine-tune the manufacturing process for optimum quality. Many papers, especially heavily calendered and coated grades, do resist liquid and gas penetration very much, being beyond the measurement range of the traditional instruments or resulting inconveniently long measuring time per sample. The increased surface hardness and use of filler minerals and mechanical pulp make a reliable, non-leaking sample contact to the measurement head a challenge of its own. Paper surface coating causes, as expected, a layer which has completely different permeability characteristics compared to the other layers of the sheet. The latest developments in sensor technologies have made it possible to reliably measure gas flow n well controlled conditions, allowing us to investigate the gas penetration of open structures, such as cigarette paper, tissue or sack paper, and in the low permeability range analyze even fully greaseproof papers, silicon papers, heavily coated papers and boards or even detect defects in barrier coatings! Even nitrogen or helium may be used as the gas, giving us completely new possibilities to rank the products or to find correlation to critical process or converting parameters. All the modern paper machines include many on-line measuring instruments which are used to give the necessary information for automatic process control systems. Hence, the reliability of this information obtained from different sensors is vital for good optimizing and process stability. If any of these on-line sensors do not operate perfectly as planned (having even small measurement error or malfunction), the process control will set the machine to operate away from the optimum, resulting loss of profit or eventual problems in quality or runnability. To assure optimum operation of the paper machines, a novel quality assurance policy for the on-line measurements has been developed, including control procedures utilizing traceable, accredited standards for the best reliability and performance.
Spectral library is a database that archives spectral reflectance and related metadata of earth surface materials. Spectral library plays important role to assist analyzing several types of remote sensor data, to determine suitable wavelength band for detecting a certain material, and to classify hyperspectal image data. This paper describes the structure and content of a spectral library that is suitable for the environment of the Korea peninsula while existing spectral libraries have certain limitations to apply for surface materials covering the region. We designed a spectral library that includes vegetation and man-made materials indigenous to the region. The spectral library also includes spectra of mineral and rock, soil, liquid, and some man-made materials from existing spectral libraries. Newly augmented spectra of vegetation and man-made materials were obtained by spectral measurements in laboratory and field. The spectral library viewer was developed to increase efficiency of usage and searching.
Microwave brightness temperature data measured from the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) aboard Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite are used to investigate the characteristics of hydrological features of the East Asian summer monsoon during 1994 and 1995. The analyzed parameters include total columnar water vapor, cloud liquid water, and rain rate. These are estimated from SSM/I brightness temperature data for the two summer seasons (June, July, August) of 1994 and 1995 over the Asian monsoon region (0$^{\circ}$-60$^{\circ}$N, 45$^{\circ}$-180$^{\circ}$E). Results indicate that there are periodic westward movement of dry air over the 20$^{\circ}$-30$^{\circ}$N latitudinal belt with about 20-30 day period. Considering that the location of the North Pacific high is closely linked to the evolution of the monsoon activities over East Asia, the westward expansion of the North Pacific high may be the one important element modulating the monsoon intensity.

Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) methods are conventional analytical methods to analyze water quality. Both of these methods are technically indirect measurement methods, require complicated preconditions, and are time-consuming. On the other hand, the total organic carbon (TOC) method is a direct and fast measurement method which is more intuitive and accurate than the BOD and COD methods. However, general TOC analysis methods involve complicated processes and high power consumption owing to the process of phase transition from liquid to gas by a high-temperature heater. Furthermore, periodic consumables are also required for the removal of inorganic carbon (IC). Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most suitable photocatalysts for simple processes. Its usage involves low power consumption because it only reacts with the organic carbon (OC) without the requirement of any other reagents and extra processes. We investigated a TiO2 photocatalyst-based TOC analysis for simple and affordable products. TiO2-coated fiber substrate maintained under carbon included water was exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation of wavelength 365 nm. This method is suitable for the real-time monitoring of water pollution because of its fast reaction time. Its linear property is also sufficient to match the real value.
Background: Surface soil radiation monitoring around nuclear facilities is important to classify and characterize the contaminated areas. A scanning and direct measurement technique can survey the sites rapidly before starting sampling analysis. Materials and Methods: Regarding this, we test and suggest a measurement technique for gross alpha/beta and 90Sr activities in surface soil based on a mobile ZnS(Ag)/PVT (polyvinyltoluene) array and a handheld PVT rod, respectively. To detect 90Sr selectively in soil mixed with naturally occurring radioactive materials, chosen energy channel counts from the multichannel analyzers were used instead of whole channel counts. Soil samples contaminated with exempt liquid 90Sr with 1 Bq·g-1, 3 Bq·g-1, and 10 Bq·g-1 were prepared and hardened by flocculation. Results and Discussion: The mobile ZnS(Ag)/PVT array could discriminate gross alpha, gross beta, and gamma radiation by the different pulse-shaped signal features of each sensor material. If the array is deployed on a vehicle, the scan minimum detectable concentration (MDC) range will be about 0.11-0.17 Bq·g-1 at 18 km·h-1 speed, highly sensitive to actual sites. The handheld PVT rod with 12 mm (Φ) × 20 mm (H) size can directly measure 90Sr selectively if channels on which energies are from 1,470 and 2,279 keV are gated, minimizing crossdetection of other radionuclides. These methods were verified by measuring soil samples fabricated with homogeneous 90Sr concentrations, showing static MDC of 2.16 Bq·g-1 at a measurement time of 300 seconds. Conclusion: Based on the results, comprehensive procedures using these detectors are suggested to optimize soil sites survey.
Water reservoir is defined as a storage space to hold and supply filtered water and it's significantly important to manage water level in the water reservoir so as to stabilize water supply by controlling water supply depending on demand. Liquid level sensors have been installed in the water reservoir and the pumps in the booster station facilitated management for optimum water level in the water reservoir. But the incident responses including sensor malfunction and communication breakdown actually count on manager's inspection, which involves risk of accidents. To stabilize draining facility management, this study has come up with AI model that predicts changes in the water level in the water reservoir. Going through simulation in the case of missing data in the water level to verify stability in relation to the field application of the prediction model for water level changes in the reservoir, the comparison of actual change value and predicted value allows to test utility of the model.
Water quality is crucial for human health and the environment. Accurate measurement of the quantity of organic carbon in water is essential for water quality evaluation, identification of water pollution sources, and appropriate implementation of water treatment measures. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis is an important tool for this purpose. Although other methods, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) are also used to measure organic carbon in water, they have limitations that make TOC analysis a more favorable option in certain situations. For example, COD requires the use of toxic chemicals, and BOD is time-consuming and can produce inconsistent and unreliable results. In contrast, TOC analysis is rapid and reliable, providing accurate measurements of organic carbon content in water. However, common methods for TOC analysis can be complex and energy-intensive because of the use of high-temperature heaters for liquid-to-gas phase transitions and the use of acid, which present safety risks. This study focuses on a TOC analysis method using TiO2 photocatalysis, which has several advantages over conventional TOC analysis methods, including its low cost and easy maintenance. For TiO2, rutile and anatase powders are mixed with an inorganic binder and spray-coated onto a glass fiber substrate. The TiO2 powder and inorganic binder solutions are adjusted to optimize the photocatalytic reaction performance. The TiO2 photocatalysis method is a simple and low-power approach to TOC analysis, making it a promising alternative to commonly used TOC analysis methods. This study aims to contribute to the development of more efficient and cost-effective approaches for water quality analysis and management by exploring the effectiveness and reliability of the developed equipment.
With the increasing demand for wearable sensors that are capable of point-of-care testing, paper-based sensors have been extensively studied. Paper is not only extremely cost-effective but also lightweight and flexible, and it is easy to apply conductive materials such as carbon and hydrophobic substances like wax to its surface. Moreover, the capillary action caused by cellulose fibers in paper allows the flow of liquid without help from external forces, making paper a particularly promising platform for wearable electrochemical sensors. Accordingly, paper-based sensors for detecting various analytes through electrochemical methods have been actively developed. Recently, paper-based electrochemical sensors that utilize electrochemiluminescence (ECL) or electrochromic materials for the optical read-out have been reported. This review introduces the basic fabrication methods and various application strategies of paper-based electrochemical sensors.
In order to optimize process conditions for manufacturing retorted Kimchi soup by using stationary and rotary types systems were applied for sterilization process. For investigating the differences in heat penetration characteristics during sterilization, Kimchi soup was packed into retort pouches, and sterility ($F_0$ value) at various positions in the product was measured through a wireless $F_0$ sensor. Heat penetration characteristics were significantly affected by sterilization method. From data analysis, optimum ranges of sterilization temperature and time was determined to be $120.7^{\circ}C$, 13 min for rotary type and $120.7^{\circ}C$, 20 min for stationary type. At those conditions, they had similar sterility ($F_0$ value). The results showed that rotation provides faster heat penetration and more uniform sterility than various positions of the product. These results derived a lot of advantages from related industry. For instance, many of the more viscous semi-liquid products and heat sensitive natural products could be sterilized in the lager pouch sizes without overcooking or scorching. Hence, current study suggests that rotary type retort would make it possible not only to reduce processing times as 35~45%, but also to improve the quality of product as overall taste, flavor, color, and texture with significant difference (p<0.05).
