A dynamic model which simulates the coupled heat and mass transfer within a vertical tube absorber was developed. The liquid film is a binary mixture of two components, and both of these components are present in the vapor phase. The pressure, concentration, temperature and mass flow rate of the vapor are obtained by assuming that the pressure is uniform within an absorber. The model was applied to an absorber for an ammonia/water absorption refrigerator. The transient behaviors of the pressure, the outlet temperature and the concentration of the solution and the cooling water outlet temperature on a step change at the absorber inlet of the cooling water temperature, the vapor mass flow rate and the concentration of the solution were shown.
In liquid composite molding (LCM), composites are produced by impregnation of a dry preform with liquid resin. The resin flow through the preform is usually described by Darcy's law and the permeability tensor must be obtained for filling analysis. While the resin flow in the thickness direction can be neglected for thin parts, the resin flow in the transverse direction is important for thicker parts. However, the transverse permeability of the preform has not been investigated frequently. In this study, the transverse permeability was measured experimentally for five different fiber preforms. In order to verify the experimental results, the measured transverse permeability was compared with numerical results. Five different fiber mats were used in this study: glass fiber woven fabric, aramid fiber woven fabric, glass fiber random mat, glass fiber braided preform, and glass/aramid hybrid braided preform. The anisotropic braided preforms were manufactured by using a three dimensional braiding machine. The pressure was measured at the inlet and outlet positions with pressure transducers.
A reformer is a device for producing hydrogen used in fuel cells. Among them, methanol steam reformer uses methanol as fuel, which is present as a liquid at room temperature. It has the advantage of low operating temperature, high energy density, and high hydrogen production. The purpose of this study is to improve the internal flow of the pressure vessel when a bundle of methanol steam reformer in the pressure vessel goes out to a single outlet. An analysis of equilibrium reaction to methanol steam reforming reaction was conducted using Aspen HYSYS® (Aspen Technology Inc., Bedford, USA), and based on the results, computational analysis was conducted using ANSYS Fluent® (ANSYS, Inc., Canonsburg, USA). For comparison of the results, the height of the pressure vessel, outlet diameter, and fillet was set as variables, and the optimum geometry was selected by comparing the effects of gravity and the amount of negative pressure.
A gas-liquid centrifugal separator is widely used in industry because of its simple geometry and little maintenance. Also, these separators have considerable advantages over filters, scrubbers or precipitators in term of compact design, low pressure drop and higher capacity. A gas-liquid centrifugal separator is a device that utilizes centrifugal force and low pressure to separate liquid from gas by density difference. Design parameters such as length of separation space, swirl vane exit angle, inlet to outlet pipe diameter ratio, models for separation efficiency and low pressure drop as a function of physical dimension are not available in literature. In present study, length of separation space (from vane to gas exit opening) has been studied using CFD. The 3-D Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. Based upon the obtained solutions, tangential velocities, centrifugal forces, vortices and total pressure losses are analyzed to find the best design parameters.
Experimental and analytical studies are presented to characterize the break-up mechanism and atomization processes of the intermittent- impinging-type nozzle. Gasoline jets passing through the circular nozzle with the outlet diameter of 0.4mm and the injection duration of 10ms are impinged on each other. The impingement of fuel jets forms a thin liquid sheet, and the break-up of the liquid sheet produces liquid ligaments and droplets subsequently. The shape of liquid sheets was visualized at various impinging velocities and angles using the planer laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique. Based on the Kelvin-Helmholtz wave instability theory, the break-up length of liquid sheets and the droplet diameter are obtained by the theoretical analysis of the sheet disintegration. The mean diameter of droplet is also estimated analytically using the liquid sheet thickness at the edge and the wavelength of the fastest growing wave. The present results indicate that the theoretical results are favorably agreed with the experimental results. The size of droplets decreases after the impingement as the impinging angle or the injection pressure increase. The increment of the injection pressure is more effective than the increment of the impinging angle to reduce the size of droplets.

This paper presents a computer simulation of five types of triple effect absorption cycles employ-ing the refrigerant absorbent combinations of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type NH3/LiNO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type series flow cycle and two types of parallel flow cycle for H2O/LiBr. The absorption systems is investigated through cycle simulation to obtain the system characteristics with the cooling water inlet temperature approach temperature of absorber loss temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type and a NH3/LINO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type is that it obtains a coefficient of performance higher than the sum of the performance coefficients of its part operating independently. As a result of this analysis the optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating conditions and the coefficient of performance.
A new tower internal, which is called CSE, is presented. The CSE is composed of a nozzle perforated in its bottom along the entire periphery and equipped with a multi vane axial swirler at the inlet and hollow cylindrical separator at the outlet of the nozzle. According to the experimental work for obtaining the necessary hydraulic information of the CSE, which is used for preliminary design of a separation column, the CSE showed a stable operation over the wide rage of gas/liquid ratio. However, it caused large pressure drop due to the high gas velocity which should carry liquid droplets through the element. The high pressure drop may cause problems in energy recovery and the application of the CSE can be limited to the high pressure columns. Assuming that the tray efficiency of the CSE is the same with the existing separation columns, the results of the column design showed the size reduction of the column diameters by 30 to $40\%$ and investment cost saving, depending on operating conditions. The application of the CSE to separation column may also contribute to the de-bottlenecking the existing column.
In this paper, suitable working fluid of 1MW Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC) with liquid-vapor ejector using effluent from power plant is selected. The results of comparison performance of 5 refrigerants are as follows; R600a, R134a, R1270, R236fa, R235fa. The operating parameters considered in this study include the condensation capacity evaporation capacity and efficiency. As a result of comparison of basic ORC system and with liquid-vapor ejector, with ORC system presents the higher system efficiency since the ejector makes the turbine outlet pressure lower than condensation pressure through its pressure recovery. Also, this ejector ORC system is advantageous in miniaturizing the size of components owing to decrease of evaporation capacity and condensation capacity.
