According to the trend for electric power equipment of high capacity and reduction of its size, the needs for the new high performance electric equipments become more and more important. On of the possible solution is high temperature superconducting (HTS) power application. Following the successful development of practical HTS wires, there have been renewed activities in developing superconducting power equipment. HTS equipments have to be operated in a coolant such as liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) or cooled by conduction-cooling method such as using Gifford-McMahon (G-M) cryocooler to maintain the temperature below critical level. In this paper, the dielectric strength of some insulating materials, such as unfilled epoxy, filled epoxy, and polyimide in $LN_2$ was analyzed. Epoxy is a good insulating material but fragile at cryogenic temperature. The filled epoxy composite not only compensates for this fragile property but enhances its dielectric strength.

To realize the high-Tc superconducting (HTS) DC cable system, it is important to study not only high current capacity and low loss of conductor but also optimum electrical insulation at cryogenic temperature. A model HTS DC cable system consists of a HTS conductor, semi-conductor, cooling system and insulating materials. Polypropylene laminated paper (PPLP) has been widely adopted as insulating material for HTS machines. However, the fundamental insulation characteristics of PPLP for the development of HTS DC cable have not been revealed satisfactorily until now. In this paper, we will discuss mainly on the breakdown characteristics of 3 sheets PPLP in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$). The characteristics of the diameter, location of butt-gap, distance between butt-gap length, pressure effect, polarity effect under DC and impulse voltage were studied. Also, the DC polarity reversal breakdown voltage of mini-model cable was measured in $LN_2$ under 0.4 MPa.

High-temperature superconducting coated conductors (HTS-CCs) are good candidates for resistive superconducting fault current limiter (RSFCL) applications. However, the high current density they can carry and their low thermal diffusivity expose them to the risk of thermal instability. In order to find the best compromise between stability and cost, it is important to study the heat transfer between HTS-CCs and the liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) bath. This paper presents an experimental method to monitor in real-time the temperature of a quenched HTS-CC during a current pulse. The current and the associated voltage are measured, giving a precise knowledge of the amount of energy dissipated in the tape. These values are compared with an adiabatic numerical thermal model which takes into account heat capacity temperature dependence of the stabilizer and substrate. The result is a precise estimation of the heat transfer to the liquid nitrogen bath at each time step. Measurements were taken on a bare tape and have been repeated using increasing $Kapton^{(R)}$ insulation layers. The different heat exchange regimes can be clearly identified. This experimental method enables us to characterize the recooling process after a quench. Finally, suggestions are done to reduce the temperature increase of the tape, at a rated current and given limitation time, using different thermal insulation thicknesses.

Near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has become increasingly used as a rapid, accurate method of evaluating some chemical constituents in cereal grains and forages. If samples could be analyzed without drying and grinding, then sample preparation time and costs may be reduced. This study was conducted to develop robust NIRS equations to predict fermentation quality of corn (Zea mays) silage and to select acceptable sample preparation methods for prediction of fermentation products in corn silage by NIRS. Prior to analysis, samples (n = 112) were either oven-dried and ground (OD), frozen in liquid nitrogen and ground (LN) and intact fresh (IF). Samples were scanned from 400 to 2,500 nm with an NIRS 6,500 monochromator. The samples were divided into calibration and validation sets. The spectral data were regressed on a range of dry matter (DM), pH and short chain organic acids using modified multivariate partial least squares (MPLS) analysis that used first and second order derivatives. All chemical analyses were conducted with fresh samples. From these treatments, calibration equations were developed successfully for concentrations of all constituents except butyric acid. Prediction accuracy, represented by standard error of prediction (SEP) and $R^2_{v}$ (variance accounted for in validation set), was slightly better with the LN treatment ($R^2$ 0.75-0.90) than for OD ($R^2$ 0.43-0.81) or IF ($R^2$ 0.62-0.79) treatments. Fermentation characteristics could be successfully predicted by NIRS analysis either with dry or fresh silage. Although statistical results for the OD and IF treatments were the lower than those of LN treatment, intact fresh (IF) treatment may be acceptable when processing is costly or when possible component alterations are expected.

To investigate the effects of seeding during freezing procedure on post-thaw viability, motility, and acrosome integrity of boar spermatozoa, semen from 5 Yorkshire boars were collected for this experiment. Raw semen were diluted with Merck I, subsequently added with cooling diluent containing lactose and egg yolk and with freezing diluent containing glycerol. The diluted semen were frozen on the rack in the styrofoam box filled with liquid nitrogen at the distance of 5 cm or I cm above LN2 level. Seeding was performed to only a group of straws frozen at 5 cm away on the surface of LN2. The frozen semen were thawed in $50^{\circ}C$C water and the viability and local motility were analyzed by sperm analysis imaging system. A part of thawed semen was taken for the examination of morphology of apical ridge of the acrosome to compare with the effect of seeding between the seeding-treated and non treated groups. I. Post-thaw viability was considerably higher in seeding-treated sperm than non-seeding group (p<0.01), however, no difference of local motility was obtained among the groups. 2. At three hours after thawing, viability was also higher in seeding-treated group than non-treated group (p<0.05), along with no difference of motility among the groups. 3. Higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the seeding-treated sperm than non-treated groups (p<0.01). 4. Between non-seeded groups, higher normal acrosome integrity was obtained in the sperm group frozen at 5cm upper on the surface of LN2 than that frozen at 1cm away (p<0.01). These results indicated that seeding treatment during freezing boar spermatozoa was beneficial to post-thaw viability and normal acrosome integrity.

For an electrical insulation design of HTS cable, it is important to understand the dielectric characteristics of insulation materials in L$N_2$ and the insulation type. Generally, the electrical insulation of HTS Cable is classified into two types of the composite insulation and solid insulation type. In this research, we selected the insulation paper/L$N_2$ composite insulation type for the electric insulation of a HTS cable, and studied electric insulation characteristics of synthetic Laminated Polypropylene Paper(LPP) in liquid nitrogen(L$N_2$) for the application to high temperature superconducting(HTS) cable. Furthermore, we compared the breakdown characteristics of the butt gap and bended mini-model cable. It is necessary to understand the winding parameter of insulation paper/LN2 composite insulation.
This study describes an efficient and widely applicable droplet-vitrification following cryopreservation for shoot tips of Chrysanthemum morifolium (Ramat.) cvs. 'Borami' and 'Yes morning'. The shoot tips of Chrysanthemum were precultured in Murashige and Skoog (MS) liquid medium supplemented with sucrose (0.3-0.7 M). Precultured explants were treated with loading solution (LS, C6) containing glycerol 20% and sucrose 20% for 30 min and exposed to dehydration solution (B5) containing 40% of glycerol and 40% of sucrose for 60 min at $25^{\circ}C$, and then transferred onto droplets containing $2.5{\mu}l$ PVS3 on sterilized aluminum foils ($4cm{\times}0.5cm$) prior to direct immersion in liquid nitrogen (LN) for 1 h. The highest regeneration rate (%) was obtained when shoot tips were precultured with treatment-2 (exposing of shoot tips to MS + 0.3M sucrose for 30 h and then treated with MS+0.5 M sucrose for 16 h) at $25^{\circ}C$ in both the cultivars. The viability of cooled samples, followed by culturing on $NH_4NO_3$-free MS medium for first 5 days was increased to two-fold (80.7%) regrowth rate over those cultured on normal MS medium or MS medium containing plant growth regulators. This result shows droplet-vitrification would be a promising method for cryobanking chrysanthemum germplasm.

HTS transformer is one of the most promising devices to supply enough electric energy for quick increase consumption. However, for practical design of the HTS transformer, it is necessary to establish the research on breakdown, V-t characteristics, degradation, and so on. In this paper, we discussed breakdown characteristics and V-t characteristics of polyimide/L$N_2$ and glass fiber reinforced plastic/$LN_2$ composite insulations. These composite insulations have been used as turn-to-turn and layer-to-layer insulations for HTS transformer respectively, Moreover, we investigated the degradation of these insulation samples after breakdown using microscope and SEM photograph.
Color characteristic of thawed samples of frozen cooked soybean pree of selected cultivar (Gomultong) depending upon cooking temperature an dtime as well as freezing conditions were evaluated . Samples were either cooled in 4$^{\circ}C$ refrigerator (control), or frozen at - 4$0^{\circ}C$ deep freezer for 12 hrs and then stored in 4 $^{\circ}C$ refrigerator , or immersed in liquid nitrogen (LN2) and then each samples were cooked for 5, 10, 20 and 40 min at 65, 80 and 95$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Freezing effect was not significant for all color characteristics except for b. Significant cooking temperature by cooking time interacts were found for all characteristics excepts for L.
Liquefied gas vaporizer means machine to vaporize the liquefied gas as liquid nitrogen($LN_2$), liquefied natural gas(LNG), liquid oxygen($LO_2$) etc. In the air type vaporizer, the frozen dew is also created by temperature drop (below 273 K) on vaporizer surface. This problem increases as the time progresses and humidity increases. In addition, the frozen dew gradually becomes frost deposit consequently, heat transfer through vaporizer decreases because frost deposit form adiabatic sheet. Because of this reason, recent vaporizer system is installed as parallel type, this vaporizer system needs more expensive installation costs and more space. This paper was investigated on the heat transfer characteristics of liquefied gas vaporizer with super low temperature and this paper was carried out the numerical about air heating vaporizer with super low temperature. The numerical analysis on the heat transfer was studied on the effect of geometric parameters of the vaporizer, which are length 1000 mm of 4fin75le type vaporizer. 4fin75le means number of fin is 4 and height of fin is 75 mm.
