  • In this paper, the necessity calling for a paradigm shift in information organization is summarized: an attempt is being made to move from a web of documents to a web of data. In this, the principles used to make a universal library network, as part of the semantic web, or linked data, are described. Popular RDF vocabularies are also briefly introduced emphasizing FRBR and RDA vocabularies. Some library-related linked data projects are also summarized, describing the steps necessary to make a library catalogue available as linked data, as well as a rationale for doing so. Lastly, proposed models for a universal library network focusing on linked data are suggested. Some implications for the use of library applications for linked data, among others, are also presented.

  • In this study, Linked Data was used for extending bibliographic data, because Linked Data provides shareable identifiers, data structures, and link information. Linked Data is especially efficient in expanding bibliographic data integrated with bibliographic ontology. Therefore, Linked Data and bibliographic ontologies were analyzed and available Linked Data was suggested. By linking between meta-data schemes, bibliographic data, and authority data, issues for the effective Linked Data sharing were suggested: 1) selecting proper Linked Data for each bibliographic organization, 2) linking between different Linked Data, and 3) developing their own Linked Data for each bibliographic organization.

  • Linked Data is a web standard data definition method devised to connect, expand resources with a standardized type. Linked Data built in various areas expands existing knowledge through an open data cloud like LOD(Linked Open Data). A project to link and service existing knowledge through LOD is under way worldwide. However, LOD project in domestic is being participated in a specific field to the level of research. In this paper, we suggests a method to build the area of technical knowledge like legislations in type of Linked Data, and distribute such Linked Data built to LOD. The construction method suggested by this paper divides knowledge of legislations in structural, semantic, and integrated perspective, and builds each of them by converting to Linked Data according to the perspective. Also, such built Linked Legal Data prepares to link knowledge in a standardized type by distributing them onto LOD. Built Linked Legal Data are equipped with schema for link service in various types, and give help increase understand the access type to existing legal information.

  • Since the advent of Linked Data (LD) as a method for building webs of data, there have been many attempts to apply and implement LD in various settings. Efforts have been made to convert bibliographic data in libraries into Linked Data, thereby generating Library Linked Data (LLD). However, when memory institutions have tried to link their data with external sources based on principles suggested by Tim Berners-Lee, identifying appropriate vocabularies for use in describing their bibliographic data has proved challenging. The objective of this paper is to discuss the potential role of Linked Open Vocabularies (LOV) in providing better access to various open datasets and facilitating effective linking. The paper will also examine the ways in which memory institutions can utilize LOV to enhance the quality of LLD and LLD-based ontology design.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop linked data of authority data in national archives of Korea as a cornerstone for linked data cloud of Korea. The study analyzed data structure of authority data as well as a retrieval system. It finally developed linked data based on RDF/OWL, Dublin Core, and SKOS. The study also employed TopBraid ComposerTM as a tool for ontology construction. The visualization of the tool provides users with flexible search and browsing between data as well as access of detail authority data. It complements the search of a current system in terms of flexible linking between records and authority data. The study also suggests future work to publish linked data of archival data set itself and make rich relationships among data in museums, libraries, and other archives.

  • The institutional repository and linked data share a purpose, co-creation and joint usage of information resources. Therefore, a new approach linking these two concepts can be utilized for co-production and utilization of resources. This study hoped to configure the Korean dCollection repository as linked data. For this purpose, first, we analyzed the current data structure of dColleciton. Second, we investigated the resource types which dCollection is targeting. Third, we focused and analyzed a case study of resource types targeted by dCollection constructed as linked data. Fourth, this study examined in detail how to build the linked dCollection data and how to connect this linked data to the linked cloud. Finally, we discussed the problems that might oc cur in the process of building the linked data.

  • Linked Data is about using the web to link related data that wasn't linked previously. To publish linked data, people should be able to represent, share, and link pieces of data, information, and knowledge by using URIs and RDF. However, building linked data is not easy for the common users who do not know the knowledge or skill about using URIs and RDF. In this paper, we present a system that the common users can create linked data by connecting data originated from different RDFs. They build linked data by adding new links to connect between RDF data saved in their computers or searched from Swoogle. We can apply the proposed system to creating educational contents. For example, teachers can develop various learning contents by building linked data that connects different data suited to the learning level of their students.
