  • A strategy for a torque ripple reduction drive of single-phase SRM with high power factor is proposed. The drive for switched reluctance motor (SRM) is presented to achieve sinusoidal, near unity power factor input current with low torque ripple. The proposed SRM drive has no additional active switch. And a single-stage approach, which combines a DC link capacitor used as do source and a drive used for driving the motor into one power stage, has a simple structure and low cost. The characteristics and validity of the proposed circuit is discussed in depth through the experimental results.

  • This paper addresses an in-depth analysis of the stratosphere-to-Earth co-channel interference produced by high-altitude platforms (HAPs) and proposes a new methodology for the evaluation of its impact to terrestrial systems in terms of fractional degradation in performance, taking into account parameters such as HAP's mobility, realistic distribution of azimuth and elevation angles of the terrestrial microwave links (TMLs), and gradual high-altitude platform network (HAPN) loading. Simulations performed for different HAPN configurations, prove that the implementation of the methodology proposed, may lead to a more efficient use of the spectrum shared between the two services.

  • Plasma polymerized hexamethyldisiloxane (PPHMDSO) thin films were produced using an electrode capacitively coupled apparatus. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis indicated that the thin film spectra are composed not only of the corresponding monomer bands but also of several new bands. Auger electron spectroscopy analysis indicated that the permeation depth of aluminum into the films is ca. 30nm when top electrode is deposited by evaporation aluminum. The increase of relative dielectric constant and decrease of dielectric loss tangent with the discharge power is originated from high cross-link of the films.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the predictors of health conservation for elders in Korea. Method: Random sampling method was used and data from 113 elders were used for final analysis. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires which were constructed to include Health Conservation Scale, Purpose in Life Test and Self-efficacy Scale. Results: Health conservation of the elders was in the middle range. The elders of this study had few goals towards meaning in life, and were in an existential vacuum state. There was a positive correlation between health conservation, meaning in life and self-efficacy. The significant factors influencing health conservation of elders were meaning in life, education level and gender. These 3 factors explained 30.6% of health conservation of elders. Conclusions: The results indicate that health conservation is an important link with meaning in life in elders. There should be a comprehensive study in the future for in-depth understanding of health conservation of elders.

  • The peformance and quality of Web sites are often being estimated by the frequency that the users approach its site. This paper suggest how a link-editing method can automatically fix a poor organization by calculating each page's relative popularity, and how improve fix poor pages. Page's relative popularity depended on only cases where the objective Is to make it easier for a user to find the requested data; the faster the access, the better the organization of the Web sites according to tree depth.

  • Traffic signal control problems in urban street networks are formulated in two ways. In the formulations network flows are assumed to satisfy the user route choice criterion. the first formulation which is called implicit substiuation incorporates user route behavior implicitly in the objective function by recognizing the dependence of the link flows on the signal variables. On the other hands, the second one which is called 'penalty formulation' consists in expressing the route choice conditions in the form of a single nonlinear constraint. Approximate solution algorithm for each of the formulations was investigated in detail and computer codes were written to examine key aspects of each algorithm. A test was done on a network which is small in size but sufficiently complex in representing real-world traffic conditions and the test result shows that both algorithms produce converged solutions. It is recommended, however, that further studies should be done in order to compare the performance of each algorithm more in depth.

  • COMS will transmit its observed data, Sensor Data, through L-Band with linear polarization. To avoid link loss caused by polarization discrepancy between satellite and SOC DATS, the L-Band antenna at SOC DATS should be linearly polarized. However, SOC DATS is supposed to share single antenna with SOC TTC, so the antenna should be circularly polarized. To cope with about 3dB loss, SOC DATS is designed to receive Sensor Data through two orthogonal circular polarizations, RHCP (Right-Hand Circular Polarization) and LHCP (Left-Hand Circular Polarization). Eventually, SOC DATS can obtain 2.6dB of combining gain through diversity combiner in MODEM/BB. This paper presents the verification on the diversity combining of SOC DATS with test configuration and results in depth.

  • This paper proposes a new architecture for a Viterbi decoder with an efficient memory management scheme. The trace-back operation is eliminated in the architecture and the memory storing intermediate decision information can be removed. The elimination of the trace-back operation also reduces the number of operation cycles needed to determine decision bits. The memory size of the proposed scheme is reduced to 1/($5{\times}$ constraint length) of that of the register exchange scheme, and the throughput is increased up to twice that of the trace-back scheme. A Viterbi decoder complying with the IS-95 reverse link specification is designed to verify the proposed architecture. The decoder has a code rate of 1/3, a constraint length of 9, and a trace-forward depth of 45.
