Wireless sensor network combines sensing and computing technology which can sense light, temperature, vibration, magnetic field and wind etc, as each purpose of using those. Wireless nodes operate signal processing skill which has proceeded sensed information from the sensor, transmission which makes information reached to observer and limited energy managing skill which is needed on account of using battery to operate wireless. To make responsible measuring and sensing out of them, efficient energy management is so important to maintain life time of network. In this paper, after explaining CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) traditional wireless MAC protocol, and ER-MAC(Energy Rate Medium Access Control) which are not managing resource of hardware but MAN(Medium Access Control), data-link layer out of OSI 7 layer. We would like to analyze those efficiency of power saving comparing with each protocol.
A steel shear wall with double-tapered links and in-plane reference was developed for assisting the assessment of the structural condition of a building after an earthquake while maintaining the original role of the wall as a passive damper device. The double-tapered link subjected to in-plane shear deformation is designed to deform torsionally after the onset of local buckling and works as an indicator of the maximum shear deformation sustained by the shear wall during an earthquake. This paper first examines the effectiveness of double-tapered links in the assessment of the structural condition under various types of loading. A design procedure using a baseline incremental two-cycle loading protocol is verified numerically and experimentally. Meanwhile, in-plane reference links are introduced to double-tapered links and greatly enhance objectivity in the inspection of notable torsional deformation with the naked eye. Finally, a double-layer system, which consists of a layer with double-tapered links and a layer with rectangular links made of low-yield-point steel, is tested to demonstrate the feasibility of realizing both structural condition assessment and enhanced energy dissipation.

In ad hoc networks, loss-based congestion window progression by the traditional means of duplicate ACKs and timeouts causes high network buffer utilization due to large bursts of data, thereby degrading network bandwidth utilization. Moreover, network-oriented feedbacks to handle route disconnection events may impair packet forwarding capability by adding to MAC layer congestion and also dissipate considerable network resources at reluctant intermediate nodes. Here, we propose a new TCP scheme that does not require the participation of intermediate nodes. It is a purely end-to-end scheme using TCP timestamps to deduce link conditions. It also eliminates spurious reductions of the transmission window in cases of timeouts and fast retransmits. The scheme incorporates a receiver-oriented rate controller (rater), and a congestion window delimiter for the 802.11 MAC protocol. In addition, the transient nature of medium availability due to medium contention during the connection time is addressed by a freezing timer (freezer) at the receiver, which freezes the sender whenever heavy contention is perceived. Finally, the sender-end is modified to comply with the receiver-end enhancements, as an optional deployment. Simulation studies show that our modification of TCP for ad hoc networks offers outstanding performance in terms of goodput, as well as throughput.

Conventional TCPs are designed to work efficiently on wired network where any transmission errors rarely take place. However, the probability of transmission error in a wireless network is much higher than in a wired network, due to pass loss, multipath fading, and many kinds of interference. There were many researches on preventing the degradation of TCP performance in these wireless networks with bad channel condition. One of these researches is the SNOOP protocol which is link-layer solution for achieving high throughput of TCP. However, this SNOOP protocol is apt to retransmit some TCP segments unnecessarily, which could cause some increased traffic loads in a wireless network. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to prevent the unnecessary retransmission of TCP segments and to achieve increased performance of TCP.

Several multi-hop applications developed for vehicular ad hoc networks use broadcast as a means to either discover nearby neighbors or propagate useful traffic information to other vehicles located within a certain geographical area. However, the conventional broadcast mechanism may lead to the so-called broadcast storm problem, a scenario in which there is a high level of contention and collisions at the link layer due to an excessive number of broadcast packets. We present a fuzzy alert message dissemination algorithm to improve performance for road safety alert application in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET). In the proposed algorithm, when a vehicle receives an alert message for the first time, the vehicle rebroadcasts the alert message according to the fuzzy control rules for rebroadcast degree, where the rebroadcast degree depends on the current traffic density of the road and the distance between source vehicle and destination vehicle. Also, the proposed algorithm is the hybrid algorithm that uses broadcast protocol together with token protocol according to traffic density. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through simulation and compared with that of other alert message dissemination algorithms.

It is analyzed that WAP packet transmission time to improve performance of WAP using SAR algorithm in Bluetooth channel. The order for SAR algorithm to improve the transfer capability, it is fragmented in WTP total messages that are coming down from upper layer and then the packets are sent one at time in baseband. And it is studied that transmission time for WAP over bluetooth according to DM1, DM3 or DM5 packet type using SAR algorithm in Bluetooth piconet environment. This SAR algorithm decreases WAP packet transmission time of L2CAP baseband packets by sending packet which are spanning multiple slots.

A high assurance IP encryption (HAIPE) compliant protocol accelerator is proposed for military networks consisting of red (or classified) networks and black (or unclassified) networks. The boundary between red and black sides is assumed to be protected via a HAIPE device. However, the IP layer encryption introduces challenges for bandwidth on demand satellite communication. The problems experienced by transmission control protocol (TCP) over satellites are well understood: While standard modems (on the black side) employ TCP performance enhancing proxy (PEP) which has been shown to work well, the HAIPE encryption of TCP headers renders the onboard modem's PEP ineffective. This is attributed to the fact that under the bandwidth-on-demand environment, PEP must use traditional TCP mechanisms such as slow start to probe for the available bandwidth of the link (which eliminates the usefulness of the PEP). Most implementations recommend disabling the PEP when a HAIPE device is used. In this paper, we propose a novel solution, namely broadband HAIPE-embeddable satellite communications terminal (BHeST), which utilizes dynamic network performance enhancement algorithms for high latency bandwidth-on-demand satellite links protected by HAIPE. By moving the PEP into the red network and exploiting the explicit congestion notification bypass mechanism allowed by the latest HAIPE standard, we have been able to regain PEP's desired network enhancement that was lost due to HAIPE encryption (even though the idea of deploying PEP at the modem side is not new). Our BHeST solution employs direct video broadcast-return channel service (DVB-RCS), an open standard as a means of providing bandwidth-on-demand satellite links. Another issue we address is the estimation of current satellite bandwidth allocated to a remote terminal which is not available in DVBRCS. Simulation results show that the improvement of our solution over FIX PEP is significant and could reach up to 100%. The improvement over the original TCP is even more (up to 500% for certain configurations).
Wide spread deployment of infrastructure WLANs has made Wi Fi an integral part of today's Internet access technology. Despite its crucial role in affecting end to end performance, past research has focused on MAC protocol enhancement, analysis and simulation based performance evaluation without sufficient consideration for modeling inaccuracies stemming from inter layer dependencies, including physical layer diversity, that significantly impact performance. We take a fresh look at IEEE 802.11 WLANs, and using experiment, simulation, and analysis demonstrate its surprisingly agile performance traits. Contention based MAC throughput degrades gracefully under congested conditions, enabled by physical layer channel diversity that reduces the effective level of MAC contention. In contrast, fairness and jitter significantly degrade at a critical offered load. This duality obviates the need for link layer flow control for throughput improvement but necessitates traffic control for fairness and QoS. We use experimentation and simulation in a complementary fashion, pointing out performance characteristics where they agree and differ.
To support Integrated Services in the Internet, the Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) has developed new mechanisms. These new mechanisms include Resource Reservation Protocol(RSVP) and Integrated Services model. RSVP and Integrated Services are independent of the underlying link layer technologies and it is necessary to define the mapping of RSVP and Integrated Services specifications onto specific link layer technologies. IETF proposed a Subnet Bandwidth Manager(SBM) providing a method for mapping RSVP onto IEEE802 style networks. However, the SBM has several constraints and problems. For solving these constraints and problems, we design and implement a new Ethernet Bandwidth Manager(EBM). This paper discusses (1) new bandwidth management mechanism independent of RSVP, (2) simulation of Ethernet bandwidth to analyze the characteristics of Ethernet and accomplish Ethernet bandwidth management, (3) design and implemetation of EBM that allows Controlled-Load Service, and (4) results of our experiments on EBM.

Fieldbus is the lowest level industrial network in the communication hierarchy of factory automation and distributed process control systems. Data generated from field devices are largely divided into three categories : time-critical, periodic and time-available data. Because these data share one fieldbus medium, it needs a method that allocates these data to the bandwidth-limited fieldbus medium. This paper introduces an implementation method of bandwidth allocation scheme on PROFIBUS. In order to implement bandwidth allocation scheme on PROFIBUS, the following functions need to be supplemented on the FDL(Fieldbus Datalink Layer) protocol: (i) separation of medium bandwidth into periodic and non-periodic intervals, (ii) synchronization of node timers over a local link. In order to examine the validity of bandwidth allocation scheme on PROFIBUS, this paper develops an experimental model of a network system. The results obtained from the experimental model show that the bandwidth allocation scheme satisfies the performance requirement of time-critical, periodic and time-available data.
