This paper presents and adaptive fuzzy controller using fuzzy neural networks(FNNs). The adaptive controller uses two FNNs. One FNN is used to identify a fuzzy model of controlled object. The other FNN is used as a fuzzy controller. The fuzzy controller is designed with the linguistic rules of the fuzzy model. The response of the designed control system is checked with a linguistic response analysis proposed by the authors. An adaptive tuning of the control rules of the FNN controller is made possible utilizing the fuzzy model. Simulations using nonlinear controlled objects were done to verify the proposed control system.

In this paper, a style-based approach to translating literary texts is introduced and used. The aim of the study is to work out a stylistic approach to translating literary texts from Arabic into English. The approach proposed in the current study is a combination of four major stylistic approaches, namely linguistic stylistics, literary stylistics, affective stylistics and cognitive stylistics. It has been shown from data analysis that by adopting a style-based approach that can draw from the four stylistic approaches, translators, as special text readers, can easily derive a better understanding and appreciation of texts, in particular literary texts. Further, it has been shown that stylistics as an approach is objective in terms of drawing evidence from the text to support the argument for the important stylistic features and their functions. However, it loses some of its objectivity and becomes dependent and subjective.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the methodological and general theoretical foundations of a rational methodology for teaching foreign language communicative competence of students of a non-linguistic university. The analysis of the vectors of research of problems of increasing the efficiency of the process of mastering foreign language communicative competence of non-linguistic students is presented. As a methodological basis for a rational methodology for teaching a foreign language communicative competence, the key aspects of the philosophy of rationality are considered, the basic principles of a rational methodology are formulated, linguo-didactic means of its implementation are determined, indicators of rationality are identified.

The aim of this study is to observe the trend of discourse study in language education and analyze the main issues by investigating the literatures related to discourse in Korean language education in the last ten years. This study observed the discourse study conducted in Korean language education from the perspectives of study subject, study method and study data. Moreover, based on the results, it estimated the achievements and effectiveness of the discourse study conducted in Korean language education. The subject of discourse study was mainly dealt with discourse function, discourse pattern, discourse marker, discourse structure. In the study methods, analysis of corpus and survey were mainly used as the study methods, and spoken corpus, written corpus and semi-spoken corpus were used as study materials. In particular, the semi-spoken corpus was used at a very high rate among them. This showed that discourse study in Korean language education was mainly focused on spoken corpus study. This study divided the detailed field of Korean language education into four fields of linguistic knowledge, communication function, teaching activities and learning activities, and observed the trends of discourse study in each field. Overall, it was recognized that relatively many studies were focused on linguistic knowledge, particularly in pragmatic perspective. It can be said that the study based on discourse has a language educational effectiveness in that it is based on actual data and improves practical communication skills in the environment of various languages.

In recent years, many studies have been conducted on fuzzy control since it can surpass the conventional control in several respects. In this paper, numerical stability analysis methodology for the singleton-type linguistic fuzzy control systems is proposed. The Proposed stability analysis is not the analytical method but the numerical method using the convex optimization technique of Quadratic Programming (QP) and Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI).

This paper aims to propose a method that helps maintenance engineers to evaluate the damage states of bridge systems by using a Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis(FFTA). It may be stated that Fuzzy Fault Tree Analysis may be may useful for the systematic md rational condition and safety assessment for real bridge systems problems because the approach is able to effectively deal with all the related bridge system damages in terms of the linguistic variables that incorporate systematically experts experiences and subjective judgement.

Recently, scientific literacy means not only the acquisition of scientific knowledge but also the linguistic ability to participate in a scientific discourse community. Keeping this in mind, this study investigated middle school students' writings about phase transitions of water in air. Sixty seven students at 9th grade (age 15) students participated in this study and wrote two individual short texts. The result of text analysis can be summarized as follows: (1) students had problems with familiar scientific terms such as 'water vapor' and 'steam' as well as unfamiliar ones like 'dew point'. (2) Students described right semantic relations and at the same time wrong ones more in the idea formed from everyday experience than those from school instruction. (3) While students showed action and process centered writing in text about everyday phenomenon, they showed more preference for technical words and nouns in text about school science. This study suggest that students could develop linguistic ability of science from both spontaneous process based on experience and formal and theoretical learning; the former in forming various semantic relations, the latter in technical and abstract aspect of scientific writing.

The purpose of this study is to provide useful information by analysis on mathematic classes for improve interactions between teacher and student using the Flanders Category System. For this, mathematic classes were observed by videotapes and recorded, 10 recorded videotapes were selected for analysis the property of linguistic interaction. The collected videotapes and records materials were transcribed by Advanced Flanders(AF) analysis program version 3.54. The detail investigated topics for studying are as follows. 1) What is the property of the Flanders 10 code analysis results? 2) What is the property of main and subsidiary linguistic flow of interaction? 3) What is the property of the Flanders index analysis results? The results of this study are as follow: 1) In Flanders 10 code analysis results, teacher's non-directive speaking is 12.76%, teacher's Indicative speaking is 50.28%, student's reactive speaking is 4.07%, student's voluntary speaking is 9.66%. 2) Among the 10 classes, 5 classes' main flow is 'ask convergent question ${\rightarrow}$ student's reactive speaking ${\rightarrow}$ lecture ${\rightarrow}$ ask convergent question', 2 classes' main flow is 'lecture ${\rightarrow}$ ask convergent question ${\rightarrow}$ student's reactive speaking ${\rightarrow}$ lecture', 3 classes' main and subsidiary flow is 'lecture ${\rightarrow}$ ask convergent question ${\rightarrow}$ lecture ${\rightarrow}$ work'. 3) In indices results, revised I/d ratio, student's speaking ratio, student question, wide answer ratio are higher than analysis standard and indirect ratio, teacher's question ratio are lower than analysis standard.

The purpose of this study was to identify the denotating of visual message and linguistic message in the advertisement of Jean-wear, and to identify the image type in the advertisement of Jean-wear. Content analysis was done using the advertisement of Jean-wear from several fashion magazines which were published from January, 1996 to August, 1997. The advertisement of Jean-wear reflects the reality using the photos, and is image appeal type, appeals to the model\`s lifestyle, the western value. And that mostly singles person was appeared in the advertisement means solitude in modern society.
