In this paper, we presented the exact Riemann solver for the air-water two-phase shock tube problems where the strength of the propagated sock wave is moderately weak. The shock tube has a diaphragm in the middle which separates water medium in the left and air medium in the right. By rupturing the diaphragm, various waves such as rarefaction wave, shock wave and contact discontinuity are propagated into water and air. Both fluids are treated as compressible, with the linearized equations of state. We used the isentropic relations for the air and water assuming a weak shock wave. We solved the shock tube problem considering a high pressure in the water and a low pressure in the air. The numerical results cleary showed a left-traveling rarefaction wave in the water, a right-traveling shock wave in the air, and the right-traveling material interface.
Consider the even-order neutral difference equation (*) ${\delta}^m(x_n{-}p_ng(x_{n-k}))-q_nh(x_{n-1})=0$, n=0,1,2,... where $\Delta$ is the forward difference operator, m is even, ${-p_n},{q_n}$ are sequences of nonnegative real numbers, k, l are nonnegative integers, g(x), h(x) ${\in}$ C(R, R) with xg(x) > 0 for $x\;{\neq}\;0$. In this paper, we obtain some linearized oscillation theorems of (*) for $p_n\;{\in}\;(-{\infty},0)$ which are discrete results of the open problem by Gyori and Ladas.

A weakly nonlinear mild-slope equation has been derived directly from the continuity equation with the aid of the Galerkin's method. The equation is combined with the momentum equations defined at the mean water level. A single component model has also been obtained in terms of the surface displacement. The linearized form is completely identical with the time-dependent mild-slope equation proposed by Smith and Sprinks(1975). For the verification purposes of the present nonlinear model, the degenerate forms were compared with Airy(1845)'s non-dispersive nonlinear wave equation, classical Boussinesq equation, andsecond¬order permanent Stokes waves. In this study, the present nonlinear wave equations are discretized by the approximate factorization techniques so that a tridiagonal matrix solver is used for each direction. Through the comparison with physical experiments, nonlinear wave model capacity was examined and the overall agreement was obtained.
Numerical analysis of two-fluid flows for both water and air is carried out. Free-Surface flows with an arbitrary deformation have been simulated around two dimensional submerged hydrofoil. The computation is performed using a finite volume method with unstructured meshes and an interface capturing scheme to determine the shape of the free surface. The method uses control volumes with an arbitrary number of faces and allows cell-wise local mesh refinement. the integration in space is of second order based on midpoint rule integration and linear interpolation. The method is fully implicit and uses quadratic interpolation in time through three time levels The linear equation systems are solved by conjugate gradient type solvers and the non-linearity of equations is accounted for through picard iterations. The solution method is of pressure-correction type and solves sequentially the linearized momentum equations the continuity equation the conservation equation of one species and the equations or two turbulence quantities.
To investigate the flow characteristics by the water stage variation between stream-aquifer, the new solution of nonlinear Boussinesq equation was derived and extended using the Boltzmann transformation. The soundness of the analytic solution obtained from this study was examined by the comparison with the linearized analytic solution and the numerical solution by finite difference method. And the movement, velocity, flowrate and volume of flow caused by the stage variation of stream and the existence of regional gradient were estimated. This new analytic solution can express the groundwater movement between stream-aquifer. So, it might be helpful to manage water environment.
We propose the robust nonlinear controller design methodology, the $H_{\infty}$ constrained quasi - linear quadratic Gaussian control (QLQG/ $H_{\infty}$), for the statistically-linearized multivariable system with hard nonlinearties such as Coulomb friction, deadzone, etc. The $H_{\infty}$ performance constraint is involved in the optimization process by replacing the covariance Lyapunov equation with the Riccati equation whose solution leads to an upper bound of the QLQG performance. Because of the system's nonlinearity, however, one equation among three Riccati equations contain the nonlinear correction terms that are very difficult to solve numerically. To treat this problem, we use simple algebraic techniques. With some analytic transformation for Riccati equations, the nonlinear correction terms can be so eliminated that the set of a linear controller to the different operating points are designed. Synthesizing these via inverse random input describing function (IRIDF) technique, the final nonlinear controller can be designed.
This study is concerned with development of 3-Dimensional simulator of a biped robot that has a prismatic balancing weight or a revolute balancing weight. The dynamic stability equation of a biped robot which have a prismatic balancing weight is conditional linear but a walking robot's stability equation with a revolute balancing weight is nonlinear. To get a stable gait of a biped robot, stabilization equations with ZMP (Zero Moment Point) are modeled as non-homogeneous second order differential equations for each balancing weight type. A trajectory of balancing weight can be directly calculated with the FDM (Finite Difference Method) solution of the linearized differential equation. In this paper, the 3-Dimensional graphic simulator is programmed to get and calculate the desired ZMP and the actual ZMP. Walking of 4 steps was simulated and verified. This balancing system will be applied to a biped humanoid robot, which consist Begs and upper body, at future work.
A numerical method for a wave diffraction problem in three-dimensional channels is developed. The physical models are various shapes of channel connected to the open sea. When a ship or an offshore structure is moored in various configurations of channel connected to an open sea, the prediction of the hydrodynamic force exerting on the moored ship could be important for the prediction of its motion. It is assumed that the fluid is inviscid and incompressible and its motion is irrotational. From the continuity equation, the Laplace equation can be obtained as the governing equation. The surface tension at free surface is neglected, and wave amplitude is assumed to be small compared to the wave length. Then the free surface condition can be linearized. The numerical method used here is the localized finite element method based on a variational formulation
In this article, we present a numerical scheme for solving singularly perturbed (i.e. highest -order derivative term multiplied by small parameter) Burgers-Huxley equation with appropriate initial and boundary conditions. Most of the traditional methods fail to capture the effect of layer behavior when small parameter tends to zero. The presence of perturbation parameter and nonlinearity in the problem leads to severe difficulties in the solution approximation. To overcome such difficulties the present numerical scheme is constructed. In construction of the numerical scheme, the first step is the dicretization of the time variable using forward difference formula with constant step length. Then, the resulting non linear singularly perturbed semidiscrete problem is linearized using quasi-linearization process. Finally, differential quadrature method is used for space discretization. The error estimate and convergence of the numerical scheme is discussed. A set of numerical experiment is carried out in support of the developed scheme.

This work aims to simulate three-dimensional heavy oil flow in a reservoir with heater-wells. Mass, momentum and energy balances, as well as correlations for rock and fluid properties, are used to obtain non-linear partial differential equations for the fluid pressure and temperature, and for the rock temperature. Heat transfer is simulated using a two-equation model that is more appropriate when fluid and rock have very different thermal properties, and we also perform comparisons between one- and two-equation models. The governing equations are discretized using the Finite Volume Method. For the numerical solution, we apply a linearization and an operator splitting. As a consequence, three algebraic subsystems of linearized equations are solved using the Conjugate Gradient Method. The results obtained show the suitability of the numerical method and the technical feasibility of heating the reservoir with static equipment.
