A New Approach for Resource Allocation in Project Scheduling with Variable-Duration Activities

  • In many project-oriented production systems, e. g., shipyards or large-scale steel products manufacturing, resource loading by an activity is flexible, and the activity duration is a function of resource allocation. For example, if one doubles the size of the crew assigned to perform an activity, it may be feasible to complete the activity in half the duration. Such flexibility has been modeled by Weglarz [13] and by Leachman, Dincerler, and Kim [7[ in extended formulations of the resource-constrained poject scheduling problem. This paper presents a new algorithmic approach to the problem that combines the ideas proposed by the aforementioned authors. The method we propose involves a two-step approach : (1) solve the resource-constrained scheduling problem using a heuristic, and (2) using this schedule as an initial feasible solution, find improved resource allocations by solving a linear programming model. We provide computational results indicating the superiority of this approach to previous methodology for the resource-constrained scheduling problem. Extensions to the model to admit overlap relationship of the activities also are presented.

  • A remote control strategy for vehicles in Intelligent Vehicle Highway System (IVHS) is considered. An optimal scheduling of a limited communication channel is proposed for lead vehicle control in a platoon. The optimal scheduling problem is to find the optimal communication sequence that minimizes the cost obtained inherently by an optimal control without the communication constraint. In this paper, the PID control law which guarantees the string stability is used for the lead vehicle control. The fact that the PID control law is equivalent to the approximately linear quadratic tracker allows to obtain the performance measure to find an optimal sequence. Simulations are conducted with five maneuvering platoons to evaluate the optimality of the obtained sequence.

목표계획법을 이용한 경계부대 근무편성에 관한 연구 (A Goal Programming Model for Guard Soldier Scheduling)

  • 본 연구는 최적화의 목표계획법을 이용하여 근무 편성권자가 경계병 근무계획시 의도하는 부대목표와 병사 선호도의 조합에 따른 최적 근무계획을 작성하는 보편적인 모형을 제시한다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 모형의 실용성 및 우수성을 시험하기 위하여 실제 경계부대의 자료와 다양한 부대목표(선 후임병의 조 편성, 교육훈련 균등할당, 분대 건제유지) 및 병사목표(근무량의 균등할당, 비번 편성, 선호병사와의 근무편성)를 사용한 다양한 실험을 실시하였다. 이 실험을 통하여, 본 연구의 모형을 이용한 최적 경계근무명령서 작성과 우발적 상황에 따른 신속한 경계근무 재계획이 효율적으로 이루어질 수 있다는 점을 보였으며, 나아가 본 연구의 모형이 실제 경계부대 근무편성 문제해결에 용이하게 적용될 수 있다는 점을 입증하였다.

선형 시변시스템을 위한 신경망 기반의 새로운 이득계획 QFT 기법 (A New Gain Scheduled QFT Method Based on Neural Networks for Linear Time-Varying System)

  • The properties of linear time-varying(LTV) systems vary because of the time-varying property of plant parameters. The generalized controller design method for linear time-varying systems does not exit because the analytic soultion of dynamic equation has not been found yet. Hence, to design a controller for LTV systems, the robust control methods for uncertain LTI systems which are the approximation of LTV systems have been generally ised omstead. However, these methods are not sufficient to reflect the fast dynamics of the original time-varying systems such as missiles and supersonic aircraft. In general, both the performance and the robustness of the control system which is designed with these are not satisfactory. In addition, since a better model will give the more robustness to the controlled system, a gain scheduling technique based on LTI controller design methods has been uesd to solve time problem. Therefore, we propose a new gain scheduled QFT method for LTV systems based on neural networks in this paper. The gain scheduled QFT involves gain dcheduling procedured which are the first trial for QFT and are well suited consideration of the properties of the existing QFT method. The proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example.

  • Ultra-high voltage transformer industry has characteristic of small quantity batch production system by other order processing unlike general mass production systems. In this industry, observance of time deadline is very important in market competitive power security and company continued existence. The transformer winding is a process that rolls a coil is coated with an electric insulation material in order to generate the required voltage using the voltage fluctuation. The winding process is very important production process in the extra-high voltage transformer manufacturing industry because winding process is core process that occupy weight about half of whole process and is process that decide current ratio of transformer. This paper proposes a statistical calculation and control method of planned leadtime on the basis of real data and informations for the A company in transformer winding process. Moreover, we develop unit process scheduling system.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 현행 버스 배차 간격 설정 시스템의 문제점을 제시하고, 이용자의 만족도와 버스 회사의 운영 효율성을 동시에 높일 수 있도록 이용자 만족도를 반영한 최적의 버스 배차 간격 설정 모형의 개발에 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 버스 운영비용, 승객 대기시간 비용 및 승객 통행시간 비용의 합으로 총 교통비용을 최소화하는 기존 모형에 이용자 만족도를 반영하여 최적 버스 배차 간격 설정 모형을 개발하였다. 본 연구는 최적 배차 간격 설정을 위해 선형계획법을 사용하였고, 이를 위해 선형계획법을 기반한 LINGO 프로그램을 사용하였다. 또한 부산의 일반 사례를 총 교통비용을 최소화하는 기존의 모형 및 현행 버스 배차간격 설정 시스템과 개발한 모형에 각각 적용하여 총 교통비용의 차이를 비교하였다.

  • This paper presents the two-step strategy method of performing optimal scheduling of paper mill processes using MINLP (Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming) considering the trim loss problem in sheet cutting processes. The mathematical model for a sheet cutting process in the form of MINLP is developed in this study, and minimizing total cost is performed considering the cost of raw paper roll, :hanging cutting patterns, storage of over-product and recycling/burning trim.   • This paper presents the optimal operation scheduling of the private cogeneration system connected with auxiliary equipments. And the optimal size of auxiliary equipments is determined through evaluations of the minimum operation cost. The optimal operation scheduling is established by using the linear programming method. Simulation results show that the auxiliary boiler is operated as an economical facility but the thermal storage tank is used as a back up facility for emergency.

  • The looper control of hot strip finishing mill is one of the most important control item in hot strip rolling mill process. Loopers are placed between finishing mill stands and control the mass flow of the two stands. Another important action of the looper is to control the strip tension which influences on the width of the strip. So it is very important to control both the looper angle and the strip tension simultaneously but the looper angle and the strip tension are strongly interacted by each other. There are many control schemes such as conventional, non-interactive, LQ(Linear Quadratic), Hinf and ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic), Adaptive(gain scheduling) control in the looper control system. In this paper, we present the modeling for the looper of a hot strip finishing mill to control the tension of the strip and suggest another control method.
