  • Models of the deposition heights in the uncontrolled laser aided direct metal deposition process are constructed for the enhancement of the process integrity. Linear and non-linear statistical models as well as fuzzy model are utilized as the modeling methods. The predictability of the models are evaluated with the values of the sum of square error. The algorithm to use the models in the feedback controlled system is suggested to increase the deposition height accuracy within a layer.

  • The void evolution in direct bonding process of $Si/Si_3$$N_4$$SiO_2$/Si silicon wafer pairs has been investigated with an infrared camera. The voids that formed in the premating process grew in the conventional furnace annealing process at a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. The voids are never shrunken even with the additional annealing process at the higher temperatures. We observed that the voids became smaller and disappeared with sequential scanning by our newly proposed fast linear annealing(FLA). FLA irradiates the focused line-shape halogen light on the surface while wafer moves from one edge to the other. We also propose the void shrinking mechanism in FLA with the finite differential method (FDM). Our results imply that we may eliminate the voids and enhance the yield for the direct bonding of wafer pairs by employing FLA.

  • In laser material processing for high thermal conductivity, the thermal effect of laser beam shape was examined through computer simulations. In this paper, a circular beam with a focal radius of $500{\mu}m$, an elliptical beam with a major axis of 4 mm and a minor axis of 1 mm, and a rotating beam with a focal radius of $500{\mu}m$ and an angular velocity of 5 rad/sec were compared. Simulation results showed that there was no clear difference in the maximum temperature between the circular focus and the elliptical shape, but the heating and cooling rates were different. The simulation result for a laser beam rotating in a circular pattern with a radius of 5 mm showed an asymmetric temperature rise due to the combination of linear and rotational motion. At points where the rotational and linear speeds combined, the temperature gradually rose and reached the maximum temperature; whereas at points where the rotational and linear speeds were attenuated, the temperature tended to gradually decrease after reaching the maximum temperature. Based on the results of this study, the authors expect to be able to optimize laser material processing by designing patterns of laser beams.

  • In order to increase endurance flight efficiency of long endurance electric powered UAV, main wing of UAV should have high aspect ratio and low structural weight. Since a spar which consists of thin and slender structure for weight reduction can cause catastrophic failure during the flight, it is important to develop verification method of structural integrity of the spar with the light weight design. In this paper, process of structural analysis using non-linear finite element method was introduced for the verification of structural integrity of the spar. The static strength test of the spar was conducted to identify structural characteristic under the static load. Then, the experimental result of the spar was compared to the analytical result from the non-linear finite element analysis. It was found that the developed process of structural analysis could predict well the non-linear structural behavior of the spar under ultimate load.

  • Correlation is a technique used to measure the strength or the degree of closeness of the linear association between two quantitative variables. Common misuses of this technique are highlighted. Linear regression is a technique used to identify a relationship between two continuous variables in mathematical equations, which could be used for comparison or estimation purposes. Specifically, regression analysis can provide answers for questions such as how much does one variable change for a given change in the other, how accurately can the value of one variable be predicted from the knowledge of the other. Regression does not give any indication of how good the association is while correlation provides a measure of how well a least-squares regression line fits the given set of data. The better the correlation, the closer the data points are to the regression line. In this tutorial article, the process of obtaining a linear regression relationship for a given set of bivariate data was described. The least square method to obtain the line which minimizes the total error between the data points and the regression line was employed and illustrated. The coefficient of determination, the ratio of the explained variation of the values of the independent variable to total variation, was described. Finally, the process of calculating confidence and prediction interval was reviewed and demonstrated.

  • A model for obtaining optimal resetting period and optimal target value of the process quality level is proposed when the quality characteristic is subject to a linear shift in mean. Different sales conditions are considered where good items can he sold at a regular price and bad items at a discounted one. Some numerical examples are also given.

  • We establish maximal moment inequalities of partial sums under ${\psi}$-weak dependence, which has been proposed by Doukhan and Louhichi [P. Doukhan and S. Louhichi, A new weak dependence condition and application to moment inequality, Stochastic Process. Appl. 84 (1999), 313-342], to unify weak dependence such as mixing, association, Gaussian sequences and Bernoulli shifts. As an application of maximal moment inequalities, a functional central limit theorem is developed for linear processes with ${\psi}$-weakly dependent innovations.

  • A functional central limit theorem is obtained for a stationary linear process of the form $X_{t}= \sum\limits_{j=0}^\infty{a_{j}x_{t-j}}$, where {x_t} is a strictly stationary sequence of negatively associated random variables with suitable conditions and {a_j} is a sequence of real numbers with $\sum\limits_{j=0}^\infty|a_{j}|<\infty$.

  • A linear form of reduced-order distillation model is proposed, which contains the physical properties of distillation process and can be used in real time applications. The proposed model is linear in terms of liquid mole fraction and contains some tuning parameters. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, the model identification using nonlinear filtering techniques was applied. As a result, it was found that this model represented the simulated distillation process very closely as the parameters were converged.

  • When the linear growth birth and death process observed at a set of equidistant time points, McNeil and Weiss (1997) present a method for simultaneously estimating the Malthusian parameter and the sum of the two parameters under wery restricted assumptions using a diffusion approximation. This article suggests a method, which does not require the restrictions given by Weiss, for estimating simultaneously the Malthusian parameter and the sum of the two parameters.
