Sometimes we need to acquire symbolic quantity of information instead of physical quantity for
the output of any system. For instance we can not control traffic signal accurately through only the
number of vehicles. At that case we can produce better output using symbolic quantity of road length
and width and vehicle type. But it is very difficult to aggregate symbolic information from the
unrelated and mutually conflicted input after calculating linear and related expression. Moreover that
will take much time to produce symbolic output by the physical quantity only. In this paper we
implemented the ultimate traffic control information by using fuzzy sensor algorithm and compared
our results with the conventional traffic controller after studying the necessity of symbolic
information in the traffic control.
A new method to measure residual stress in micron and nano scale films is described. In the theory it is based on Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. And in the techniques it depends on the combined capability of the focused ion beam (FIB) imaging system and of high-resolution digital image correlation (DIC) software. The method can be used for any film material (whether amorphous or crystalline) without thinning the substrate. In the method, a region of the film surface is highlighted and scanning electron images of that region taken before and after a long slot, depth a, is introduced using the FIB. The DIC software evaluates the displacement of the surface normal to the slot due to the stress relaxation by using features on the film surface. To minimize the influence of signal noise and rigid body movement, not a few, but all of the measure displacements are used for determining the real residual stress. The accuracy of the method has been assessed by performing measurements on a nano film of diamond like carbon (DLC) on glass substrate and on micro film of aluminum oxide thermally grown on Fecrally substrate. It is shown that the new method determines the residual stress ${\sigma}_R=-1.73$ GPa for DLC and ${\sigma}_R=-5.45$ GPa for the aluminum oxide, which agree quite well with ones measured independently.
The scattered pilots employed in DVB-T take advantage of the merits of both the block type and comb type pilot arrangement to increase the transmission efficiency. To estimate the channel transfer functions for data subcarriers, it is required to conduct time-frequency domain 2D estimation using the pilots. Though 2D Wiener estimator is optimal in sense of MSE (mean square error), it is too complex to implement in hardware. In this paper a new channel estimation method for the scattered pilot based OFDM system by measuring the power of AWGN and removing the noise in the LS (least square) estimate of the channel is proposed. And the simulation results reveal the proposed method outperforms the 2D linear interpolation in the fading channel.
The present study adopted the PTV method for the velocity acquisition. The system consists of an image grabber built-in a personal computer and a laser-based sheet light projector and particle identification softwares. Velocity vectors are obtained, by PTV and they are used as velocity components for Poisson equation for pressure. Related boundary conditions and no-slip condition at solid wall and the linear velocity extrapolation on the upper side of cavity are well examined for the present study. For calculation of pressure, resolution of grid is basically $40{\times}40$ and 2-dimensional uniform mesh using MAC staggered grid is adopted. The result of experiment reveal that, newly suggested measuring method is capable of estimating pressure and velocity distribution of flow field reasonably.
Recent research in animal behavior has shown that gradient information plays an important role in finding food and home. It is also important in optimization of performance because it indicates how the inputs should be adjusted for maximization/minimization of a performance index. We introduce perturbation as an additional input to obtain gradient information. Unlike the typical approach of calculating the gradient from the derivative, the proposed processing is very robust to noise since it is performed as a summation. Experimental results prove the validity of the process of spatial gradient acquisition. Quantitative indices for measuring the effect of the amplitude and the frequency are developed based on linear regression analysis. Drones are very useful for environmental monitoring and an autonomous path planning is required for unstructured environment. Guiding the drone for finding the origin of the interested physical property is done by estimating the gradient of the sensed value and generating the drone trajectories in the direction which maximizes the sensed value. Simulation results show that the proposed method can be successfully applied to identify the source of the physical quantity of interest by utilizing it for path planning of an autonomous drone in 3D environment.

The measuring system of the Partial discharge(PD) is very essential to investigate the hazard defects in the insulation systems of the high voltage engineering. We will discussed this research which has included two parts. The proposed method of Foil Sensor Array(FSA) and the normally used method in the practice. Firstly, it will be shown the improved sensitivity of a FSA sensor, which is our aim, compare with the existing normal foil sensor. And then, the linearity of detecting sensitivities of various kinds of FSA sensors was shown. According to our experiments, we can see that FSA sensor is more sensitivity than normal foil sensor and the linear increment property of FSA sensitivities.

The phenomena of drag reduction using small quantities of a linear macromolecules has attracted the attention of experimental investigations. It is well known that drag reduction in single phase liquid flow is affected by polymer materials, molecular weight, polymer concentration, pipe diameter and flow velocity. But the research on drag reduction in two phase flow has not intensively investigated. Drag reduction can be applied to phase change system such as chemical reactor, pool and boiling flow, and to flow with cavitation which occurs pump impellers. The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop, mean liquid velocity, and turbulent intensity and determine the effects of polymer additives on drag reduction in horizontal two phase flow. Experimental results show higher drag reduction using co-polymer comparing with using polyacrylamide. Mean liquid velocities increase as adding more polymer, and turbulent intensities decrease as the distance for the wall in inversed.

In this paper, the IED(Intelligent Electronic Devices) with the consideration of harmonic problems is discussed, With significant development of power electronics technology, the proliferation of a nonlinear load has more deteriorated power quality, As continuous harmonic current makes for a shortening lifetime, overheat and abnormal operation, it should be considered to improve these problems. However, the conventional digital protective relay which eliminates harmonic elements with orthogonal filter has a defect on actually implementation. The prototype IED is constructed with Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C32) and Complex Programmable Logic Device. According to the experiment and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed system has good performance of measuring harmonic factors and protecting electrical equipment.

As the lifespan of concrete structures increases, their load carrying capacity decreases owing to cyclic loads and long-term effects such as creep and shrinkage. For these reasons, there is a necessity for stress state monitoring of concrete members. Particularly, it is necessary to evaluate the concrete structures for behavioral changes by using a technique that can overcome the measuring limitations of usual ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation methods. This paper proposes the use of a nonlinear ultrasonic method, namely, nonlinear resonant ultrasonic spectroscopy (NRUS) for the measurement of nonlinearity parameters for stress monitoring. An experiment compared the use of NRUS method and a linear ultrasonic method, namely, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) to study the effects of continuously increasing loads and cyclic loads on the nonlinearity parameter. Both NRUS and UPV methods found a similar direct relationship between load level and that parameter. The NRUS method showed a higher sensitivity to micro-structural changes of concrete than UPV method. Thus, the experiment confirms the possibility of using the nonlinear ultrasonic method for stress state monitoring of concrete members.

As a measure of health, the percentage of body fat has been utilized for many ergonomist, physician, athletic trainers, and work physiologists. Underwater weighing procedure for measuring the percentage of body fat is popular and accurate. However, it is relatively expensive, difficult to perform and requires large space. Anthropometric techniques can be utilized to predict the percentage of body fat in the field setting because they are easy to implement and require little space. In this concern, the purpose of this study was to find a regression model to easily predict the percentage of body fat using the anthropometric circumference measurements as predictor variables. In this study, the data for 10 anthropometric circumference measurements for 252 men were analyzed. A full model with ten predictor variables was constructed based on subjective knowledge and literature. The linear regression modeling consists of variable selection and various assumptions regarding the anticipated model. All possible regression models and the assumptions are evaluated using various statistical methods. Based on the evaluation, a reduced model was selected with five predictor variables to predict the percentage of body fat. The model is : % Body Fat = 2.704-0.601 (Neck Circumference) + 0.974 (Abdominal Circumference) -0.332 (Hip Circumference) + 0.409 (Arm Circumference) - 1.618 (Wrist Circumference) + $\epsilon$. This model can be used to estimate the percentage of body fat using only a tape measure.
