Performance Evaluation of UWB Positioning System in Ultra Wideband Indoor Environment (광대역 실내 환경에서 UWB 위치 추정 시스템의 성능 평가)

  • UWB(ultra wide band) communication systems employ short pulses to transmit information which spreads the signal energy over a very wide frequency spectrum. Received signal-to-noise power ratio of UWB signals is an important factor in determining the accuracy of a positioning system. As the signal to noise power ratio gets higher, positioning errors decrease since noise becomes less effective. Calculation of signal to noise power ratio as a function of communication distance provides important guidelines for the system design. And the performance of a positioning system also depends heavily on the channel model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the performance of the received signal to noise power ratio according to the communication distance was better in the LOS channel environment than in the Non LOS(line of sight) channel environment. And as the symbol interval of the preamble signal increases at a specific communication distance, the channel capacity of the UWB system increases.

Calculation of Effective Receiving Electric Field Level using the Measurement Analysis from Actual Domestic DTV Environment (국내 디지털 TV방송 환경 측정결과 분석을 통한 효과적인 수신전계강도 산출)

  • Preparing the conversion to the digital broadcasting system, we are deciding broadcasting network plan and interference protection area, using the measured receiving electric field level from the digital broadcasting station. However, the essential researches are needed about a receiving electric field level, because a digital TV (DTV) broadcasting receiver has been improved and an actual receiving environment should be considered. In this paper, the measured data were classified with domestic terrain of line of sight (LOS) and those of non-LOS, and effective receiving electric field level was proposed based on the LOS data. It is known that receiving electric field-level of 48 ㏈uV/m or more should be required for receiving rate of 90% and 50 ㏈uV/m for that of 95%, on the basis of the information of domestic terrain LOS.

  • Today, there are many high speed data access systems that provide the truly "anytime and anywhere" services. Especially, HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access), one of the main third generation mobile communication systems, provides 14.4Mbps maximum data throughput. However, HSDPA will fail to provide high data throughput in hostile multipath fading environments due to lack of LOS (Line of Sight). HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) is one of the solutions to this problem. HAPS system not only provides Los, but it can also provide high data rate services to the conventional terrestrial systems. This paper proposes HAPS-HSDPA system model and compares performance of HSDPA and HAPS-HSDPA.

  • In recent years, RFID has received much attention because of spread usage in industrial applications including factory, material flow, logistics and defense areas. However, there is only CRC-16 for error detection in ISO/IEC 18000-6 Protocols prepared for 860-960 MHz RFID, high error rates are expected in cases of high level of security and noisy envirionment. In this paper, we propose a usage of convolution code as a method for satisfying the high level of security requirement and system error performance.'1'he signal control function is implemented in a microprocessor with RF modulation and the convolutional encoding and Viterbi decoding are implemented in an FPGA chip.'The frame error rates are measured with and without convolution coding under the channel conditions of line-of- sight and non line-of-sight, respectively.

  • In this paper, a program that can be utilized to measure and analyze radio propagation characteristics is developed. This program is able to control the measurement instruments including spectrum analyzer through GPIB interface and analyze the measured data to yield mean excess delay and RMS delay spread. The measured path loss can be compared with theoretical value in free space or inside a tunnel. The measured and analyzed results can also be presented in the forms of graphs. As these tasks can be conducted on the spot of the measurements, this program is very helpful in performing and verifying the measurements immediately. In this thesis radio propagation characteristics with frequency bands of 2.45 and 5.8GHz in subway tunnels are measured by using the program. Path loss and delay spread in subway tunnel is measured and compared according to the form of antenna beam and LOS(Line of Sight) and N-LOS(Non-Line of Sight).

  • In this paper a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm is developed for real-time locating systems (RTLSs) that employ a direct-sequence spread spectrum technique, along with its performance analysis in multipath environments. The classical correlation method provides relatively good performance in line-of-sight (LOS) environments but its performance seriously degrades in multipath environments, especially when signals are spaced closer than a PN chip. Therefore we shall develop a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm that may estimate the time delays of multipath signals even in closely spaced multipath environments using the MUSIC algorithm for direction-of-arrival estimation and analyze its performance by applying the algorithm to the ISO/IEC 24730-2.1 RTLS system. 

Performance analysis of UWB receiver using PPM and BPSK modulation scheme in the LR-WPAN System (LR-WPAN 시스템에서 PPM+BPSK 변조 방식을 사용하는 UWB 송수신기의 성능 분석)

  • In the IEEE 802.15.4a system, they require simple, economical and low power consumption transmitter and receiver to transmit low rate data and to identify distance and location. To meet these requirements, LR-WPAN system use transmitter and receiver with simple modulation and demodulation scheme. In this paper, use PPM+BPSK modulation and windowing scheme to overcome multipath fading effect. Then we apply this channel estimation scheme to LR-WPAN system and compare performance depends on transmitter scheme. Proposed method using preamble to find channel characteristic out and we compensate distorted data with that information. Therefore we can detect signal easily at the demodulation part. Simulation result shows that performance evaluation is greater at the NLOS channel than LOS channel no matter what the receiver scheme.

Coordinates Tracking Algorithm Design (표적 좌표지향 알고리즘 설계)

  • This paper describes the design of a Coordinates Tracking algorithm for EOTS and its error analysis. EOTS stabilizes the image sensors such as FLIR, CCD TV camera, LRF/LD, and so on, tracks targets automatically, and provides navigation capability for vehicles. The Coordinates Tracking algorithm calculates the azimuth and the elevation angle of EOTS using the inertial navigation system and the attitude sensors of the vehicle, so that LOS designates the target coordinates which is generated by a Radar or an operator. In the error analysis in this paper, the unexpected behaviors of EOTS that is due to the time delay and deadbeat of the digital signals of the vehicle equipments are anticipated and the countermeasures are suggested. This algorithm is verified and the error analysis is confirmed through simulations. The application of this algorithm to EOTS will improve the operational capability by reducing the time which is required to find the target and support especially the flight in a night time flight and the poor weather condition.

  • Utilization of CCTV in crime prevention for public safety is accepted as the most effective measure in terms of crime prevention and control. Also, it is frequently used as a device that shows evidence of an unexpected situation or record on public social relationship. However, it is rare to find a study that qualitatively accessed the monitoring performance of a certain space depending on the choice and positioning of CCTVs. Thus, this study suggested a technology that can quantitatively compare and assess the monitoring performance of CCTVs depending on view angle and effective sight range of cameras as well as the monitoring performance depending on positioning measures. For the analysis, the concept of 3-dimensional surveillance field in the form of a frustum was suggested while deriving 3-dimensional range of sight and quantitative monitoring performance by applying Isovist theory. For the analysis technology, space of analysis subject, point of view (camera), and target point (measurement node) were installed at a 3-dimensional space and in use of ray-tracing algorithm, the line segment that was visually connected between the point of view and target point was extracted and accumulated. For such verification, analysis application was constructed and then applied to four alternative models on view angle and distance as well as four alternatives on positioning in order to verify its efficacy. Through the experiment, it was possible to compare and assess visibility depending on alternatives while quantifying the results by understanding the shadow areas beyond the monitoring range.

Dynamic Modulation Transfer Function Analysis of Images Blurred by Sinusoidal Vibration

  • The dynamic modulation transfer function (MTF) for image degradation caused by sinusoidal vibration is formulated based on a Bessel function of the first kind. The presented method makes it possible to obtain an analytical MTF expression derived for arbitrary frequency sinusoidal vibration. The error obtained by the use of finite order sum approximations instead of infinite sums is investigated in detail. Dynamic MTF exhibits a stronger random behavior for low frequency vibration than high frequency vibration. The calculated MTFs agree well with the measured MTFs with the slant edge method in imaging experiments. With the proposed formula, allowable amplitudes of any frequency vibration are easily calculated. This is practical for the analysis and design of the line-of-sight stabilization system in the remote sensing camera.
