This paper presents a design and performance of the 6 D.O.F linear motion table with a magnetic bearing suspension. The linear positioning of the table with a 150mm stroke is driven by a brushless DC Linear motor and the other attitudes of the stage are controlled by the analog PD controller with magnetic bearing actuators. Each magnetic bearing unit which consists of 3 electromagnets, 3 capacitance probes and 3 backup bearings affords controlled forces by detecting the air gap between the probes and guideways. An integral type capacitance probe amplifier is equipped on the upper plate of the table so that the probe line to the probe amplifier can be shorter therefore the problems due to the stray capacitance and noise can be reduced. Form the pitch-yaw errormeasured by the autocollimator, the vertical and horizont straightness errors of the table are derived that they are maintained below 1.mu. m over 100mm stroke. The positioning accuracy of the linear motion is maintained below 2 .mu. m and the repeatability error is below 1 .mu. m

This paper is about the development of surface inspection of bearing inner and outer race using machine vision. Before this system is developed, most inspections are performed by workers' naked eye. To improve both the inconvenience and incorrectness, another new tester is introduced. This system has the three sections mainly. First one is the mechanism section which transfers bearing manufactured from previous process line to the testing process in plant. Another is the inspection system which is composed of two parts: computer vision and measurement system using laser diode which inspects the defects of the bearing inner or outer race. The other is the pneumatic cylinder part controlled by Programmable Logic Controller(PLC). The system which is developed shows favorable results, and that has the advantage of convenience and correctness compared to previous system.

The purpose of this experiment is to determine the relations between numbers, arrangements and pumping rates of wells. In this experiment, well pipes were vertically set up in an artificial water-bearing sand layer of homogeneous quality. Wells were arranged in different ways and their number was varied in order to observe the variation of pumping rates. Sands were filled in a square tank, $183cm{\times}91.5cm{\times}91.5cm$ so as to secure a water-bearing layer. Water was constantly supplied from a supply tank located at an end of the tank. The number of well pipes was varied from one to four. Well pipes were connected by a horizontal header pipes were connected by a horizontal header pipe located above them and one pump was used. Pumping rates were measured, when they were arranged in longitudinal and lateral directions, They were also arranged in a square and triangle. The main results thus obtained are presented as follows: (1) When well pipes are laid out in a longitudinal line, i. e., in a flow direction, the ratios of pumping rates of one-pipe well and wells 2-, 3- and 4- pipe t, are 1.903, 2.506 and 2.66, respectively. (2) When well pipes are laid out in a lateral line, i.e., in a perpendicular direction to flow, the same ratios as (1) are 1.912, 2.527 and 2.88. (3) When four pipes are laid out in a square and three pipes are laid out in a triangle, pumping rates are deereased, Comparing with the cases when pipes are laid out in a straight line.
Line type rigid bearings for Open-Steel-Plate-Girder railway bridges have several problems in service, and they are unstable structurally. A series of lateral resistance tests were performed for a retrieved line type bearing. A spherical bearing with advanced maintenance-capability and a device to resist the up-lift was developed and replaced the existing ones. An experiment of maintenance for a new spherical bearing under real Open-Steel-Plate-Girder bridge was conducted and their good maintenance performance was proved. Also, a test against up-lift was performed for the bearing. The dynamic behavior of the bridge was measured and analyzed for the two cases of the existing and replaced bearings. Therefore, the suitability of the new spherical bearings on the railway bridge was improved.
This paper reports on finite element analysis techniques that may be applied to the study of circular hollow structural sections and related bearing connection geometries. Specifically, a connection detail involving curved steel saddle bearings and a Structural Tee (ST) connected directly to a large-diameter Hollow Structural Section (HSS) truss chord, near its open end, is considered. The modeling is carried out using experimentally verified techniques. It is determined that the primary mechanism of failure involves a flexural collapse of the HSS chord through plastification of the chord wall into a well-defined yield line mechanism; a limit state for which a shell-based finite element model is well-suited to capture. It is also found that classical metal plasticity material models may be somewhat limited in their applicability to steels in fabricated tubular members.
This paper presents a failure type assessment curve method to judge the failure type of transmission tower segments. This novel method considers the equivalent static wind load characteristics and the transmission tower members' load-bearing capacities based on numerical simulations. This method can help judge the failure types according to the relative positions between the actual state points and the assessment curves of transmission tower segments. If the extended line of the actual state point intersects with the horizontal part's assessment curve, the segment would lose load-bearing capacity due to the diagonal members' failure. Another scenario occurs when the intersection point is in the oblique part, indicating that the broken main members have caused the tower segment to fail. The proposed method is verified by practical engineering case studies and static tests on the scaled tower segments.

The chatter vibration in the machining process plays bad role in machining quality such as high roughness as well as tool life and machine failure. And the grinding process under this risk in the fully automated factory is exposed to the unexpected mass machining quality problem. Studying the vibration signal of the hub bearing grinding process, the reason of chatter vibration was explained with the specific machining pattern of chatter. And this study suggests the chatter detecting method in the production line, which is monitoring the peak acceleration level around the natural frequencies of the specimen, and calculating kurtosis value by assuming the chatter is related to the resonance of the specimen. The suggested method was applied to the vehicle hub bearing grinding process and proved good to detecting the chatter induced machining quality problem.

The Port of Pyeong Taek is located on the west coast, meaning that the difference between the rise and fall of tide is great (flood tide 1.8 to 2.9 knots, ebb tide 1.6 to 2.9 knots). Due to mainly N~NW'ly strong winds & high waves during winter, navigating as well as loading & discharging vessels must focus on cargo handling. The strong tidal and wind forces in the Port of Pyeong Taek can push an LNG carrier away from its berth, which will end up causing forced disconnection between the vessel's cargo line and shore-side loading arm. The primary consequence of this disconnection will be LNG leakage, which will lead to tremendous physical damage to the hull and shore-side equipment. In this study, the 125K LNG Moss Type ship docked at No. 1 Pier of the Pyeong Taek is observed, and the tension of the mooring line during cargo handling is calculated using a combination of wind and waves to determine effective mooring line and mooring line priority management. As a result if the wind direction is $90^{\circ}$ to the left and right of the bow, it was found that line monitoring should be performed bearing special attention to the Fore Spring Line, Fore Breast Line, and Aft Spring Line.
Maximal surfaces have a prominent place in the field of differential geometry, captivating researchers with their intriguing properties. Bearing a direct analogy to the minimal surfaces in Euclidean space, investigating both their similarities and differences has long been an important issue. This paper is aimed to give a local characterization of maximal surfaces in 𝕃3 in terms of their geodesic curvatures, which is analogous to the minimal surface case presented in [8]. We present a classification of the maximal surfaces under some simple condition on the geodesic curvatures of the parameter curves in the line of curvature coordinates.
With speed-up of existing railway, a greater attention is paid to the riding safety and the comfort of the passengers. They are combined to some technical factors related to track such as alignment, derailment coefficient, and track bearing capacity, A quantitative analysis method for those technical factors is presented in this study. Calculating the allowable transit speed, the technical reviews of speed-up of Janghang-Line(Chunan∼Janghang) are conducted. And the alternatives for improving train speed in existing railway are proposed.
