Based on the Precise Transfer Matrix Method (PTMM), the dynamic model is constructed to observe the vibration behaviour of cylindrical shells with variable thickness by solving a set of first-order differential equations. The free vibration of stiffened cylindrical shells with variable thickness can be obtained to compare with the exact solution and FEM results. The reliability of the present method of free vibration is well proved. Furthermore, the effect of thickness on the vibration responses of the cylindrical shell is also discussed. The acoustic response of immersed cylindrical shells is analyzed by a Pluralized Wave Superposition Method (PWSM). The sound pressure coefficient can be gained by collocating points along the meridian line to satisfy the Neumann boundary condition. The mode convergence analysis of the cylindrical shell is carried out to guarantee calculation precision. Also, the reliability of the present method on sound radiation is verified by comparing with experimental results and numerical results.
Purpose: This study aimed at examining the thickness of lateral cortical bone in the mandibular posterior body and the location of the inferior alveolar nerve canal as well as investigating the clinically viable bone grafting site(s) and proper thickness of the bone grafts. Subjects and Methods: The study enrolled a total of 49 patients who visited the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital to have their lower third molar extracted and received cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations. Their CBCT data were used for the study. The thickness of lateral cortical bone and the location of inferior alveolar nerve canal were each measured from the buccal midpoint of the patients' lower first molar to the mandibular ramus area in the occlusal plane of the molar area. Results: Except in the external oblique ridge and alveolar ridge, all measured areas exhibited the greatest cortical bone thickness near the lower second molar area and the smallest cortical bone thickness in the retromolar area. The inferior alveolar nerve canal was found to be located in the innermost site near the lower second molar area compared to other areas. In addition, the greatest thickness of the trabecular bone was found between the inferior alveolar nerve canal and the lateral cortical bone. Conclusions: In actual clinical settings involving bone harvesting in the posterior mandibular body, clinicians are advised to avoid locating the osteotomy line in the retromolar area to help protect the inferior alveolar nerve canal from damage. Harvesting the bone near the lower second molar area is judged to be the proper way of securing cortical bone with the greatest thickness.
This study compared the effects of the initial head position (i.e., a HHP versus a relaxed head position) of subjects with and without a FHP on the thickness of the deep and superficial neck flexor muscles during CCF. The study recruited 6 subjects with a FHP and 10 subjects without a FHP. The subjects performed CCF in two different head positions: a HHP, with the head aligned so that the forehead and chin formed a horizontal line, and a relaxed head position (RHP), with the head aligned in a self-selected comfortable position. During the CCF exercise, the thickness of the longus colli (LCo) and the thickness of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) were recorded using ultrasonography. The thickness of each muscle was measured by Image J software. The statistical analysis was performed with a two-way mixed-model analysis of variance. The thickness of the SCM differed significantly (p<.05) between the subjects with and without FHP. According to a post $h^{\circ}C$ independent t-test, the change in thickness of the SCM increased significantly during CCF in the subjects with FHP while adopting a HHP compared to that in the subjects without FHP. The change in thickness of the SCM was not significantly different between the two positions in subjects without FHP, and there was no significant change in thickness of the LCo muscle during the CCF exercise according to the initial position in both subjects with and without FHP. The results suggest that CCF should be performed in RHP to minimize contraction of the SCM in subjects with a FHP.
Purpose: To examine the danger zone of mesial root of mandibular first molar of patient without extraction using CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography) to avoid the risk of root perforation. Materials and Methods: 20 mandibular first molars without caries and restorations were collected, CT images were obtained by CBCT ($PSR9000N^{TM}$, Asahi Roentgen Co., Japan), reformed and analyzed by V-work 5.0 (CyberMed Inc., Korea), Distance between canal orifice and furcation was measured. In cross sectional images at 3, 4 and 5 mm below the canal orifice, distal wall thickness of mesiobuccal canal (MB-D), distal wall thickness of mesiolingual canal (ML-D), distal wall thickness of central part (C-D), mesial wall thickness of mesiobuccal canal (MB-M) and mesial wall thickness of mesiolingual canal (ML-M) were measured, Results: The mean distance between the canal orifice and the furcation of the roots is 2.40 mm, Distal wall is found to be thinner than mesial wall. Mean dentinal wall thickness of distal wall is about 1 mm, The wall thickness is thinner as the distance from the canal orifice is farther. But significant differences are not noted between 4 mm and 5 mm in MB-D and C-D, MB-D is thinner than ML-D although the differences is not significant. Conclusion: The present study confirmed the anatomical weakness of distal surface of the coronal part of the mesial roots of mandibular first molar by CBCT and provided an anatomical guide line of wall thickness during endodontic treatment.
A study was made to investigate a relationship existing in the dentoskeletal framework and the soft tissue profile around the face, and compare the sexual differences between boys and girls having the normal occlusion in the mixed dentition. The lateral cephalograms were composed of 67 boys aged 10.3 years and 68 girls aged 10.4 years, respectively. By means of the lateral cephalograms, both the hard-and soft tissue structures were simultaneously analyzed, measured and evaluated by introducing the several reference items: S-N plane, palatal plane, mandibular plane, N-A line and A-P line for the dentoskeletal structures and N’-P’line for the soft tissue, and the 21 measuring points for the both structures. The significant findings were as follows: 1. In general the boys showed the larger nasal component dimension than did the girls, but the length and height of nose(N’-Prn and NA-Prn) showed the significant sexual difference among those when evaluated statistically. 2. The lip-thickness was found to be minimal in the region of nasion, greater in the region of pogonion, and much greater in the region of point A in the both sexes, but the only thickness over point A(A-A’) showed the significant sexual difference statistically. 3. The upper and lower lip position were found to be located anteriorly to the esthetic line in the both sexes, but upper lip position showed the significant sexual difference when evaluated statistically. 4. The regions of nose and upper lip had a tendency not to be following the underlying skeletal profile.
This research focused on pattern adjustments of the stable knit garment for women. Fourteen different types of the knitted fabrics by 12 gauge, computerized flat bed machines were cut in as one half of the torso front, one half of the torso back, and one side of the sleeves for each of them. Guidelines such as the center front, the center back, the armhole, the bust-line, the waistline, the hip-line the hemline were basted on the torso patterns in the knitted fabrics. Also the grain-line, the elbow-line, and the hemline were basted on the one side of the sleeves in the same as above knitted fabrics. The torso patterns in the knitted fabrics were exhibited on the dress-forms on top of the torso patterns in Muslin, which also have the same guidelines drawn on. The distances between the guidelines on Muslin and those on the knitted fabrics for each set of the sample fabrics were measured every three days for two weeks. The fabric properties of the fourteen knitted fabrics such as fiber contents, stitch density both in the wale and course directions, weight, thickness, stretch & recovery, residual shrinkage, relaxation and drapability were laboratory tested for how these were related to finished appearance of 12 gauge, computerized flat knit garments and also in order to prove the fourteen knitted fabrics fall to a category of such as the stable knit. The results from the investigation revealed that six fabric properties such as stitch density, thickness, stretch recovery, residual shrinkage and relaxation were not so much significant factors as weight and drapability. In conclusion, fabric weight, and drapability of the fabric resulting from fiber contents were the cause of final appearance distortion of garment. When adapting patterns for stabilized, 12 gauge, computerized flat knitted fabrics, the fiber contents of the fabrics should be taken into consideration to reduce the production cost and produce better-fit garments.
This study investigated the compressive fracture strength of Targis ceromer crown by the difference of occlusal thickness on a maxillary first premolar. Control group was a castable IPS-Empress all-ceramic crown with occlusal thickness of 1.5 mm constructed by layered technique. Experimental groups were Targis crowns having different occlusal thicknesses of 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, respectively. The classification of Targis group is T10, T15, T20, T25 and T15N (for no-thermocycling and occlusal thickness of 1.5mm). Ten samples were tested per each group. Except occlusal thickness, all dimension of metal die is same with axial inclination of $10^{\circ}$and marginal width 0.8mm chamfer. All crowns were cemented with Panavia F and thermocycled 1,000 times between $5^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}$ water bath with 10 sec dwelling time and 10 sec resting time. The compressive fracture strength was measured by universal testing machine. The results were as follows : 1. Fracture strength was increased as the occlusal thickness increased : compressive fracture strength of Group T10, T15, T20, T25 was $66.65{\pm}4.88kgf$, $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, $87.07{\pm}7.06kgf$ and $105.03{\pm}10.56kgf$, respectively. 2. When comparing material, Targis crown had higher fracture strength than IPS-Empress crown : the mean compressive strength of group T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$ and the value of group Control was $37.66{\pm}4.28kgf$. 3. Fracture strength was decreased by thermocycling : the compressive fracture strength of T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, which is lower than $90.69{\pm}6.88kgf$ of group T15N. 4. The fracture line of crowns began at the loading point and extended along long axis of tooth. IPS-Empress showed adhesive failure pattern whereas Targis had adhesive and cohesive failure. In the SEM view, stress was distributed radially from loading point and the crack line was more prominent on Targis crown.

For successful implementation of robotic painting system, a structured design and analysis procedure is necessary. In designing robotic system, both functional and economical feasibility should be investigated. As the robotization is complicated task involving implementation details(such as robot selection, accessory design, and spatial layout) together with operation details, a computerized method should be sought. However, any conventional robotic design system and off-line programming system cannot accomodate such a need. In this research, we develop an interactive design support system for robotization of a cycle painting line. With the developed system called SPRPL(Simulation Package for Robotic Painting Line) users can design the painting objects(via FRAME module), select robot model (ROBOT), design the part hanger (FEEDER), and arrange the workcell. After motion programming (MOTION), the design is evaluated in terms of: a) workspace analysis, b) coating thickness analysis, and c) cycle time (ANALYSIS). By iterative design and evaluation procedure, a feasible and efficient robotic design can be attained. As the developed system has motion planning and analysis features, it can be also used as an off-line robot programming system in operation stage. Including the details of each module, this paper also presents a case study made for an actual painting line.
Sculptured surface structures such as ship hulls are traditionally formed up to the required double curved shape by line heating method. The nature of the line heating process is a transient thermal process, followed by a thermo-elastic-plastic stress field. The permanant shape is dependent on many factors involved in the process, Among them are torch speed and path, supplied heat type and amount , and plate size. Thus, the work is essentially leaded by experts with lots of experiences. However, in order to effectively improve productivity through automation, each factor should be clearly examined how much it affects the final shape. This can not be done only by experiments, but can be achieved by a mechanics-based approach. In this paper, we propose a conceptual configuration for plate forming system, and then present simulations of the line heating process with numerical data in practices and suggest a computerized process of the line heating for practical applications. The modeling of heating torch, water cooling, and the plate to be formed is proposed for the finite element analysis after the mechanics of line heating is studied. Parametric studies are given and discussed for the effects of plate thickness, torch speed and initial curvature in forming a saddle typed surface.
