  • For developing a beam shaping antenna, the circumference and the length of the vertical and horizontal elements of the Modified Transmission Line type Antenna(MTLA) are varied. The vertical radiation pattern of MTLA which has various shape was analyzed by the moment method in order to verify the beam tilt characteristics. From the analysis, it is confirmed that the condition of the maximum beam tilt is determined by the length of the vertical elements of the antenna. The antennal with the maximum beam tilt was designed and its input impedance and the radiation pattern was calculated theoretically and measured experimentally.

  • A nonlinear spectral-line method utilizing the fourth absolute moment of the receiver discrete Fourier transform output is proposed as a non-data-aided fine carrier frequency synchronization algorithm for OFDM receivers. A simple modification of the algorithm resulting in low implementation complexity is also developed. Analytic expressions are derived for the steady-state frequency error variances of the algorithms and verified to be very accurate via computer simulations over AWGN and frequency selective multipath channels. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms provide reliable and excellent steady-state performance, especially with PSK modulation. Also, the proposed algorithms are insensitive to symbol timing offsets, only requiring a coarse symbol timing recovery.

  • Probabilistic Load Flow(PLF) solution based on the method of moments is used for security assessment of bus voltages in power systems. Bus voltages, line currents, line admittances, generated real and reactive power, and bus loads are treated as complex random variables. These complex random variables are known in terms of probability density functions(PDF). Also, expressions for the convolutions of complex random variables in terms of moments and cumulants have been derived. Proposed PLF solution using the method of moments is fast, because the process of convolution of various complex random variables is performed in moment and cumulant domain. Therefore, the method is applied to security assessment of power systems in this paper. Finally, system operator also can be used information of security assessment to improve reliability of power systems.

  • There are many kinds of predominant modes to transfer Multimedia information on internet in the world. Various methods are applied to get real time multimedia data as possible as we need. At the moment it is very difficult to use acceptable technologies for performe those methods effectively on the Networks. This paper gives the alternative directions and trends for research and development of multimedia transmission on the internet. ATM is one of the best mode to transfer mass-multimedia data at the high speed on the Broad-Band ISDN until now. And xDSL (xDigital Subscriber Line) is an excellent typical method on the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) using old type telephone line. But they are not yet applied into the phase of practical use together this time. So this paper analyzes what we need and how to develop the multimedia transmission modes which we can send on the internet without a problem or any difficulty for our various multimedia information all the time under low cost and high speed.

  • This research evaluated the different types of deck to pier connections effects (one or two elastomeric bearing lines and rigid) on a concrete bridges. Three-dimensional bridge models behavior with different deck to pier connections and different distances of two bearing lines were studied under the service load. Also, the detailed connection system with two elastomeric bearing lines was modeled to evaluate the effect of changing distance between two-lines. Results indicated that the proper location of elastomeric bearings has a major impact on the transferring forces to the substructure. Double elastomeric bearing lines have a behavior between one line and rigid connections. Transferring bending moment to the substructure in two-lines is more than the corresponding value of the one line. Moreover, an increase in the distance of two-lines lead to a significant increase in the rotational stiffness of the connection, and an analytical solution was investigated for their relation. In fact, the semi-rigidity effect of this connection and its change due to the distance of bearings should be considered in the design process.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) plate Is one of the alterative materials for soengthening of reinforced and prestressed connote members due to excellent strength and light weight In this paper, the behavior of beams strengthened with CFRP plate and CFS(Carbon fiber sheet) is observed and analyzed from the test results. Especially specimens with thick plate is tested when large moment and large shear lone appear in same position. The main failure mode is a peeling-off of the CFRP plate near the loading points due to flexural-shear crack, Because of this failure mode, failure load is not linearly proportional to the thickness of CFRP plates. When beam is wrapped with CFS around oかy loading point it does not influence on the failure loads. Depending on the loading pattern, it is necessary to consider different design criteria for reinforced concrete members with external reinforcement. When line moment and large shear force appear in same location, maximum thickness may limit to 0.6mm and ratio between moment of strengthened beam and moment of unstrengthened beam is proposed 1.5-2.0. In order to use the plate of thicker than 6mm, CFS may be extended to the location which moment of strengthened beam is 1.5 times than moment of unstrengthened beam.

  • The mercury is among the most highly bioconcentrated toxic trace metals. Many national and international agencies and organisations have targeted mercury for the possible emission control. The mercury toxicity depends on its chemical form, among which alkylmercury compounds are the most toxic. A human cervix uterus cancer cell line HeLa cells was employed to investigate the effect of the toxic heavy metal mercury (Hg) and ionizing radiation. In the in vitro comet assays for the genotoxicity in the HeLa cells, the group of Hg treatment after irradiation showed higher DNA breakage than the other groups. The tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the control group were $4.88{\pm}1.00\;and\;3.50{\pm}0.52$ while the values of the only Hg treatment group were $26.90{\pm}2.67\;and\;13.16{\pm}1.82$, respectively. The tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the only 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 Hg group were $12.24{\pm}1.82,\;8.20{\pm}2.15,\;20.30{\pm}1.30,\;12.26{\pm}0.52,\;40.65{\pm}2.94\;and \;20.38{\pm}1.49$, respectively. In the case of Hg treatment after irradiation, the tail extent moment and olive tail moment of the 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 Hg group were $56.50{\pm}3.93,\;32.69{\pm}2.48,\;62.03{\pm}5.14,\;31.56{\pm}1.97,\;72.73{\pm}3.70\;and \;39.44{\pm}3.23$, respectively. The results showed that Hg induced DNA single-strand breaks or alkali labile sites as assessed by the Comet assay. It is in good agreement with the reported results. The mercury inhibits the repair of DNA. The bacterial formamidopyrimidine-DNA glycosylase (Epg protein) recognizes and removes some oxidative DNA base modifications. Enzyme inactivation by Hg (II) may therefore be due either to interactions with rysteine residues outside the metal binding domain or to very high-affinity binding of Hg (II) which readily removes Zn (II) from the zinc finger.

  • This study presented the effects of the assumed mass-size relationship for snow on the simulated surface precipitation by using cloud microphysics parameterizations in Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. The selected cloud microphysics parameterizations are WRF Double-Moment 6-class (WDM6) and WRF Single-Moment 6-class (WSM6) in the WRF model. We replaced the mass-size relationship for snow in WDM6 and WSM6 with Thompson's mass-size relationship retrieved from measurement data. The sensitivity of the modified WDM6 and WSM6 was tested for the idealized 2-dimensional squall line and winter precipitation system over the Korean peninsula, respectively. The modified WDM6 and WSM6 resulted in the increase of graupel/rain mixing ratios and the decrease of snow mixing ratio in the low atmosphere. The changes of hydrometeor mixing ratio and surface precipitation could be due to the collision-coalescence process between raindrops and snow and the graupel melting process.

  • This study is an attempt to analyze the individual merit of the INSTRAT model, which forms a cognitive process paradigm, and that of the Big6 model, which involves a functional approach, as tools for enhancing human information activities and aptitude. The former was examined through logical interpretations, while the latter was deduced from interviews using the Micro-Moment Time-Line method, a key methodology used in the Sense-Making Approaches. Results indicate that the application of the INSTRAT model is suitable for developing information systems that can assist users in the stage of defining information needs and search strategies, and that the application of the Big6 model is appropriate in information literacy education or information aptitude training. Of particular significance is the fact that the study proves for the first time that human information problem-solving behavior indeed follows the process delineated in the Big6 model.

  • In this study, the numerical code for the 3D nonlinear dynamic analysis of an SLWR (Steel Lazy Wave Riser) was developed using the lumped mass line model in a FORTRAN environment. Because the lumped mass line model is an explicit method, there is no matrix operation. Thus, the numerical algorithm is simple and fast. In the lumped mass line model, the equations of motion for the riser were derived by applying the various forces acting on each node of the line. The applied forces at the node of the riser consisted of the tension, shear force due to the bending moment, gravitational force, buoyancy force, riser/ground contact force, and hydrodynamic force based on the Morison equation. Time integration was carried out using a Runge-Kutta fourth-order method, which is known to be stable and accurate. To validate the accuracy of the developed numerical code, simulations using the commercial software OrcaFlex were carried out simultaneously and compared with the results of the developed numerical code. To understand the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of an SLWR, dynamic simulations of SLWRs excited at the hang-off point and of SLWRs in regular waves were carried out. From the results of these dynamic simulations, the displacements at the maximum bending moments at important points of the design, like the hang-off point, sagging point, hogging points, and touch-down point, were observed and analyzed.
