Temperature prediction model was developed for on-line application to plate rolling mills of POSCO. The adequate boundary conditions of heat transfer coefficients were obtained by comparing the predicted temperature with the measured temperatures taken by measuring system in plate rolling mill of POSCO. In obtaining the boundary condition which minimize the mean and standard deviation of the difference between prediction and measurement, orthogonal array for experimental design was used to reduce the calculation time of large data set. To predict the temperature drop at four edge of plate in one dimensional model, the energy change by heat transfer though directions perpendicular to thickness direction was treated like that by deformation. And the heat transfer through four edge directions was inferred from that through thickness direction with two coefficients of depth and severity of temperature drop at the edge. The boundary condition for the depth and severity of temperature drop were also determined using the measured temperature.

The sensitivity analysis is a method to quantify to what extent the output of a model changes with the values of input parameters. This will lead to increase model accuracy through measurement validation. Three line source air quality models, HIWAY 2, PAL, and CALINE 3 were selected for this study. The input parameters analysed included wind speed, wind direction, stability, emission rate, mixing height, receptor distance, initial dispersion coefficient, surface roughness, and averaging time. It turned out that PAL model generally showed higher concentration than other two models, and that between CALINE 3 and HIWAY 2, CALINE 3 showed higher concentration than HIWAY 2 model near the line sources, but beyond a certain downwind distances HIWAY 2 model showed higher concentration. The modesl were very sensitive to wind speed especially in the range of 0 $\sim$ 1 m/s and to wind direction near the parallel wind to streets. In case of emission rate, the output concentration was directly proportional to these input parameters. And the sensitivity of the input parameters such as stability, mixing height, initial dispersion coefficient, surface roughness, and averaging time were not very significant.
In vision measurement systems based on structured light, the key point of detection precision is to determine accurately the central position of the projected laser line in the image. The purpose of this research is to extract laser line centers based on a decision function generated to distinguish the real centers from candidate points with a high recognition rate. First, preprocessing of an image adopting a difference image method is conducted to realize image segmentation of the laser line. Second, the feature points in an integral pixel level are selected as the initiating light line centers by the eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix. Third, according to the light intensity distribution of a laser line obeying a Gaussian distribution in transverse section and a constant distribution in longitudinal section, a normalized model of Hessian matrix eigenvalues for the candidate centers of the laser line is presented to balance reasonably the two eigenvalues that indicate the variation tendencies of the second-order partial derivatives of the Gaussian function and constant function, respectively. The proposed model integrates a Gaussian recognition function and a sinusoidal recognition function. The Gaussian recognition function estimates the characteristic that one eigenvalue approaches zero, and enhances the sensitivity of the decision function to that characteristic, which corresponds to the longitudinal direction of the laser line. The sinusoidal recognition function evaluates the feature that the other eigenvalue is negative with a large absolute value, making the decision function more sensitive to that feature, which is related to the transverse direction of the laser line. In the proposed model the decision function is weighted for higher values to the real centers synthetically, considering the properties in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the laser line. Moreover, this method provides a decision value from 0 to 1 for arbitrary candidate centers, which yields a normalized measure for different laser lines in different images. The normalized results of pixels close to 1 are determined to be the real centers by progressive scanning of the image columns. Finally, the zero point of a second-order Taylor expansion in the eigenvector's direction is employed to refine further the extraction results of the central points at the subpixel level. The experimental results show that the method based on this normalization model accurately extracts the coordinates of laser line centers and obtains a higher recognition rate in two group experiments.
A psychophysical measurement technique called "magnitude estimation" was used to evaluate several interior design alternatives for a high speed train. Pas- senger activity, seat direction, and passenger age were manipulated by using a three factor within-subjects experimental design. During the experiment, two dependent measures, a line length and a numerical estimate for each alternative design were collected to validate the experimental procedures. The results showed that pasnger seats arranged in the same direction as the running direction of the train was favored nine times more than the opposite. Also, the subjects preferred listening to music in a coach train to the other activities such as reading newspaper, watching a movie, and resting. This paper demonstrates that a psychophysical technique can be sued in the design of a development process, especially when it is difficult to quantify design variables such as subjective opinion or preference, etc.

Mooring systems are among the most important elements employed to control the motion of floating offshore structures on the sea. Considering the use of polymer material, a new method is proposed to address the creep characteristics rather than the method of using a tension load cell for measuring the tension of the mooring line. This study uses a synthetic mooring rope made from a polymer material, which usually consists of three parts: center, eye, and splice, and which makes a joint for two successive ropes. We integrate the optical sensor into the synthetic mooring ropes to measure the rope tension. The different structure of the mooring line in the longitudinal direction can be used to measure the loads with the entire mooring configuration in series, which can be defined as SMART (Smart Mooring and Riser Truncation) mooring. To determine the characteristics of the basic SMART mooring, a SMART mooring with a diameter of 3 mm made of three different polymer materials is observed to change the wavelength that responds as the length changes. By performing the longitudinal tension experiment using three different SMART moorings, it was confirmed that there were linear wavelength changes in the response characteristics of the 3-mm-diameter SMART moorings. A 54-mm-diameter SMART mooring is produced to measure the response of longitudinal tension on the center, eye, and splice of the mooring, and a longitudinal tension of 100 t in step-by-step applied for the Maintained Test and Fatigue Cycle Test is conducted. By performing a longitudinal tension experiment, wavelength changes were detected in the center, eye, and splice position of the SMART moorings. The results obtained from each part of the installed sensors indicated a different strain measurement depending on the position of the SMART moorings. The variation of the strain measurement with the position was more than twice the result of the difference measurement, while the applied external load increased step-by-step. It appears that there is a correlation with an externally generated longitudinal tensional force depending on the cross-sectional area of each part of the SMART mooring.

In this paper, lumped equivalent circuits for a conventional parallel directional coupler are proposed. This equivalent circuits only have self inductance and self capacitance, so we can design exact lumped equivalent circuit. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler is derived based on the even- and odd-mode properties of parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have designed the 3dB and 4.7dB MMIC couplers at the center frequency of 3.4GHz and 5.6GHz respectively. Measurements for the designed MMIC directional couplers show at 4dB and 5.2dB-coupling value at the center frequency of 3.4GHz and 5.6GHz. Excellent agreements between simulation results and measurement results on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper

Recently, while 3D sports game increases, the research that it recognizes the operation of the real user actively progresses. Most of all, the research about the golf is active. In this paper, the image acquiring in a high-speed CCD camera measures the flight data of the golf ball through the image processing. While photographing, the high-speed camera, using this system, exposes an image at regular intervals. And line scan camera checks whether the golf ball passed or not. After the location information of the calculated golf ball calculates a speed and a direction by using the physical formula, it applies the golf simulation.
Dynamic thermal rating of the overhead transmission lines is affected by many uncertain factors. The ambient temperature, wind speed and wind direction are the main sources of uncertainty. Measurement uncertainty is an important parameter to evaluate the reliability of measurement results. This paper presents the uncertainty analysis based on Monte Carlo. On the basis of establishing the mathematical model and setting the probability density function of the input parameter value, the probability density function of the output value is determined by probability distribution random sampling. Through the calculation and analysis of the transient thermal balance equation and the steady- state thermal balance equation, the steady-state current carrying capacity, the transient current carrying capacity, the standard uncertainty and the probability distribution of the minimum and maximum values of the conductor under 95% confidence interval are obtained. The simulation results indicate that Monte Carlo method can decrease the computational complexity, speed up the calculation, and increase the validity and reliability of the uncertainty evaluation.

The constraint effect $A_2$ has to be evaluated within plastic region near crack tip front using opening displacement. Plastic boundary and stress or strain conditions in the vicinity of the crack tip using recrystallization heat treatment was represented. It was found that the plastic deformation boundary by recrystallization heat treatment method was the true strain of ${\epsilon}t$ = 0.05mm/mm. With the estimation of constraint effects $A_2$, the region of proper displacement measurement point near crack tip was between 0mm and 1mm distance toward direction of crack propagation, and was between 1mm to 3mm distance toward direction of load line.

The properties of Ni/Au Ohmic contacts formed on nonpolar a-plane GaN grown on r-plane sapphire substrate with different tilt angles are investigated using current-voltage (I-V) measurements. To investigate the effects of pattern direction and size on Ohmic contact properties of a-plane GaN, transmission line method (TLM) patterns are formed either along c-axis and m-axis on nonpolar GaN surface with different size. I-V measurement results show that the size of TLM pattern and formation direction of electrode have an effect on the electrical properties of a-plane GaN. The large sized patterns show the relatively lower sheet resistance compared to the small sized patterns. In addition, the sheet resistance of a-plane GaN along m-axis shows lower values than that along the c-axis. Finally, the effects of miscut angle of r-sapphire substrate ($0.2^{\circ}$, 0.4oand $0.6^{\circ}$) on electrical properties of a-plane GaN will be discussed.
