  • This study addresses basic requirements for mathematical programming software, discusses considerations in designing these software, implementation issues facing in these types of applications development, and shows some examples of codes being developed in the course. This type of projects requires long and ever-changing evolutionary phases. The experience is therefore, valuaable in suggesting some useful hints which may be salvaged for similar projects as well as providing reusable codes. In particular, scanning and parsing the free-format inputs, symbol table management, mixed-language programming, and data structures dealing with large sparse matrices are indispensable to many management science software development. Extensions to be made are also discussed.

  • We prove some uniqueness theorems of nonconstant meromorphic functions partially sharing values with their shifts. As an application, we obtain a sufficient condition on periodic meromorphic functions. Moreover, some examples are given to illustrate that the conditions are sharp and necessary.

  • In the paper by Liu and Lin (Statist. Probab. Lett. 76 (2006), no. 16, 1787-1799), a new kind of precise asymptotics in the law of large numbers for the sequence of i.i.d. random variables, which includes complete convergence as a special case, was studied. This paper is devoted to the study of this new kind of precise asymptotics in the law of large numbers for moving average process under $\phi$-mixing assumption and some results of Liu and Lin [6] are extended to such moving average process.

  • Light flicker is a notorious phenomenon influencing light quality. The flicker of the light flux outputs from the light sources perceived by human eyes depends upon the lamp brightness fluctuations for projector display. This paper describes a ballast ignition control system, which makes the lamp strike frequency phase lock the blanking time period to minimize the flicker effect

  • The voltage and frequency dependence of voltage holding ratio (VHR) in a homogeneously-aligned liquid-crystal (LC) cell is studied in this paper. The discharge curves with different scan frequencies are obtained and the saturation phenomenon of VHR is observed under specific amplitudes of driving voltage. Our results suggest a reasonable concept to improve the VHR in LC displays without increasing the frame rate.

  • We study a nonlinear wave equation on finite connected weighted graphs. Using Rothe's and energy methods, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution under certain assumption. For linear wave equation on graphs, Lin and Xie [10] obtained the existence and uniqueness of solution. The main novelty of this paper is that the wave equation we considered has the nonlinear damping term |ut|p-1·ut (p > 1).
