  • Communication based train control system is applied regularly worldwide. And this system may be used in domestic soon. Communication based train control system does not depend on conventional track circuit. Therefore, position and distance control of train to prevent collision with leading train may become important safety factor. This paper developed collision avoidance algorithm to control trains of several units efficiently for this In developing a collision avoidance algorithm, it is desirable to avoid the need for additional system. Additional system restricts the development of the algorithm by limiting the effectiveness of the algorithm to only those areas where the additional system can be afforded and has been installed.

Hartley-VCO Using Linear OTA-based Active Inductor

  • An LC-tuned sinusoidal voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using temperature-stable linear operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) is presented. Its architecture is based on Hartley oscillator configuration, where the inductor is active one realized with two OTAs and a grounded capacitor. Two diode limiters are used for limiting amplitude. A prototype oscillator built with discrete components exhibits less than 3.1% nonlinearity in its current-to-frequency transfer characteristic from 1.99 MHz to 39.14 MHz and $220ppm/^{\circ}C$ frequency stability to the temperature drift over 0 to $75^{\circ}C$. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is as low as 4.4 % for a specified frequency-tuning range. The simulated phase noise of the VCO is about -108.9 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset frequency in frequency range of 0.4 - 46.97 MHz and property of phase noise of VCO is better than colpitts-VCO.

전력계통 고주파 전류의 해석 (An analysis of harmonic components of current in the power system)

  • The harmonic components of a current in the power system have been known to be harmful to the sound operation of the system. Their occurrence is mainly due to the nonlinear characteristics of magnetic materials which are used in the system. This paper has, therefore, numerically analyze the harmonics from the relation between the magnetic characteristic curve and the harmonic components of a current in the R-L-C circuit. It also has suggested a new method of calculating the magnitudes and phase angles of the harmonic components by means of approximate formulas derived here. The method is expected to apply to the determination of harmonics-limiting conditions in case of the design of such power equipments as transformer, reactor and so on.

Help of Microcontroller on Voltage Control to Reduce Transformer Inrush Current

  • At the moment of transformer energization by the supply voltage, a high current called transient inrush current, which may rise to ten times the transformer full load current, could be drawn by the primary winding. This paper discusses a microcontroller circuit with the intention of controlling and limiting the inrush current for a transformer, by the method of ramping up the supply voltage feeding to the transformer primary. Simulations and the experimental results show a significant reduction of inrush current, when the ramping up voltage is applied to the three-phase transformer load. The inrush current could be almost eliminated if the correct switching step rate is chosen.

  • The hysteresis characteristics of flux-lock reactor, which is an essential component of flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), was investigated. The hysteresis loss of iron core in flux-lock type SFCL does not happen due to its winding's structure especially in the normal state. From the equivalent circuit for the flux-lock type SFCL and the fault current limiting experiments, the hysteresis curves could be drawn. Through the hysteresis curves together with the fault current level due to the inductance ratio for the 1st and 2nd windings, the increase of the number of turns in the 2nd winding of the flux-lock type SFCL had a role to prevent the iron core from saturation.

  • We studied the operating properties of resistive and inductive SFCLS with 100 $\Omega$ of quench impedance for a three-phase-fault in the 154 kV transmission system. The fault simulation at the phase angles 0$^{\circ}$ , 45$^{\circ}$ , and 90$^{\circ}$ showed that the resistive SFCL limited the fault current less than 16 kA without any DC component after one half cycle from the instant of the fault. On the other hand, the inductive SFCL suppressed the current below 11 kA, but with 3-4 kA of DC component which decreased to zero in 5 cycles. We concluded that the inductive SFCL had higher performance in current limiting but the resistive SFCL was better from the view point of DC components.

  • We have performed an EMTDC simulation for the current limiting effects of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for the 154 kV transmission line between the Gaepo and Sungnam substations. The simulation showed that a line-to-line fault increases the fault current up to 54 kA. The SFCL with $100{\Omega}$ impedance after quench limited the current to 15 kA within a half cycle. This limited current is well below the upper limit of a circuit breaker, suggesting that the impedance of the SFCL in the transmission line is sufficient.

  • For the design to prevent the saturation of iron core and the effective fault current limitation, the analysis for the operation of the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with consideration for the hysteresis characteristics of iron core is required. In this paper, the hysteresis characteristics of flux-lock reactor, which is an essential component of flux-lock type SFCL, was investigated. The hysteresis loss of iron core in flux-lock type SFCL does not happen due to its winding's structure especially in the normal state. From the equivalent circuit for the flux-lock type SFCL and the fault current limiting experiments, the hysteresis curves could be drawn. Through the analysis for both the hysteresis curves and the fault current limiting characteristics due to the number of turns for the 1st and 2nd winding, the increase of the number of turns in the 2nd winding of the flux-lock type SFCL had a role to prevent the iron core from saturation.
