  • End milling process is one of the broadly used manufacturing process for precision machined parts and products. Machining performance is often limited by chatter vibration at the tool-workpiece interface. Chatter vibration is a type of machining self-excited vibration which originated from the variation in cutting forces and the flexibility of the machine tool structure. Even though lots of cutting tooling methods are developed and used in machining process, precise analysis of cutting tooling effect in view of chatter vibration behavior. This study presents numerical and experimental approaches to verify and effects of various cutting parameters to affect to chatter vibration stability. Acquired knowledge from this study will apply the optimal cutting conditions to improve a machining process.

  • The use of high-strength steels in construction of highrise and mega building structures can bring about many technological advantages from fabrication to erection. However, key design criteria such as local and lateral stability in current steel design specifications were developed based on tests of ordinary steels which have stress-strain characteristics very different from that of high strength steels. A series of tests on 800 MPa tensile strength steel (HSA800) members are summarized in this paper which were conducted to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current ordinary-steel based design criteria to high strength steels. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens designed according to flange local buckling (FLB) criteria of the AISC Specification developed a sufficient strength for elastic design and a marginal rotation capacity for plastic design. It is shown that, without introducing distinct and significant yield plateau to the stress-strain property of high-strength steel, it is inherently difficult to achieve a high rotation capacity even if all the current stability limits are met. 800 MPa I-shape beam specimens with both low and high warping rigidity exhibited sufficient lateral torsional buckling (LTB) strength. HSA800 short-column specimens with various edge restraint exhibited sufficient local buckling strength under uniform compression and generally outperformed ordinary steel specimens. The experimental P-M strength was much higher than the AISC nominal P-M strength. The measured residual stresses indicated that the impact of residual stress on inelastic buckling of high-strength steel is less. Cyclic seismic test results showed that HSA800 members have the potential to be used as non-ductile members or members with limited ductility demand in seismic load resisting systems. Finally, recent applications of 800 MPa high strength steel to highrise and mega building structures in Korea are briefly presented.

  • The number of waste tires is increasing. One effective recycling method is the pyrolysis of waste tires. Using the pyrolyzed carbon black from waste tires, the characteristics of permanent deformation for PA-13mm porous mixture were evaluated. The confining pressure of 138 kPa and deviatoric stress of 551 kPa were adopted. The testing temperature was $45^{\circ}$ and 50 gyrations of the gyratory compactor was used to simulate the medium traffic level. The mixture modified by 10% PCB showed the largest Marshall Stability of 3.41 kN. The stability of the mixtures with PCB was 50% higher than that of mixture without PCB. The limited laboratory test showed that the use of PCB in a porous pavement decreases the permanent deformation and will be an effective alternative method to reducing the permanent deformation of a porous pavement.

  • Modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) films by using hydroxylamine (HA) and hydrazine to produce hydroxyl and amine groups, respectively, and to introduce cross-linking of PAN polymers was studied. Modified PAN films obtained by HA and/or hydrazine treatment including a successive or a simultaneous process were analyzed by the degree of conversion, water and N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) swelling ratio, FTIR spectra, atom content, and thermal analysis data. PAN films reacted with HA showed increased hydrophilicity and low dimensional stability in water. Hydrazine treatment gave PAN films high dimensional stability of low DMF swelling. Although the DMF swelling ratio of the modified PAN films was dramatically decreased by the successive treatment of hydrazine and HA, the introduction of the hydrophilic functional groups was limited due to the cross-linking. Simultaneous treatment of HA and hydrazine was the most effective method to increase hydrophilicity of PAN films with a high dimensional stability.

  • The slope design of an open-pit mine must ensure slope stability and economic feasibility. The overall slope angle of the pit is therefore the main factor of concern because of limited support or reinforcement options available in such a setting. This study examines the optimal measurement system for monitoring the behavior of the slope in an open-pit mine using displacement measurement, data analysis, and numerical simulations for a coal mine at Pasir, Indonesia. The area of slope to be managed is extensive and the maximum displacement, as calculated by numerical analysis, is about 3,000 mm. The displacement data, measured by inclinometer and GPS, were analyzed, and the applicability of SSR (slope stability radar) was reviewed in comparison with other monitoring systems.

  • Recently TiN, TiAlN, CrN hardcoatings have adapted many industrial application such as die, mold and cutting tools because of good wear resistant and thermal stability. However, in terms of high speed process, general hard coatings have been limited by oxidation and thermal hardness drop. Especially in the case of PCB drill, high speed cutting and without lubricant process condition have not adapted these coatings until now. Therefore more recently, superhard nanocomposite coating which have superhard and good thermal stability have developed. In previous works, WC-TiAlN new nanocomposite film was investigated by cathodic arc ion plating system. Control of AI concentration, WC-TiAlN multi layer composite coating with controlled microstructure was carried out and provides additional enhancement of mechanical properties as well as oxidation resistance at elevated temperature. It is noted that microhardness ofWC-TiA1N multi layer composite coating increased up to 50 Gpa and got thermal stability about $900^{\circ}C$. In this study WC-TiAlN nanocomposite coating was deposited on PCB drill for enhancement of life time. The parameter was A1 concentration and plasma cleaning time for edge sharpness maintaining. The characteristic of WC-TiAlN film formation and wear behaviors are discussed with data from AlES, XRD, EDS and SEM analysis. Through field test, enhancement of life time for PCB drill was measured.

  • Currently, audio streaming services such as on-demand service and live service support only a limited number of clients. They also suffer from a lack of stability and degradation of service quality due to their inefficient use of network resources. Futhermore, since the streaming services usually do not consider dynamic services, they are very inconvenience to use. In order to resolve these drawbacks, we propose a novel audio streaming system based on MPEG-2 AAC file format which are facilitated with the network bandwidths efficiently. The proposed system supports QoS for audio streaming as well as guarantees a stability while streaming service is undergoing. Moreover, the system provides a dynamic interface which enables us to use the streaming service more easily and to manage streaming servers with convenient manner. On the contrary, most of the current available static interface streaming services are mainly depending only on a single fixed web page between client and server, which in consequence lead us to use unflexible static service environment. Our implementation results show the proposed system improves the performance compared to those of the currently existing systems that use MP3 file format. It also provides some benefits such as a stability of service and a easy to management of streaming servers.

  • The tilting-train being operated in pre-existing rail road has a different running mechanism compared to currently operated trains. Therefore, it needs to investigate the evaluation of the track performance, the stability of the tilting-train in operating condition, and the stability of the roadbed. In this study, when the tilting train is operated in the rail joint with the allowable velocity limited by the track performance and the stability of the tilting-train, the settlement of the roadbed has been evaluated by using numerical analysis. The loading on the ground surface generated by the operating tilting-train generates the settlement of the roadbed. The settlement induced by the tilting-train loading has been compared to the allowable settlement and the factor of safety defined by the ratio of the allowable settlement to the settlement generated by the applied loading is evaluated.

  • Polymerization of carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex takes longer time than that of acrylic emulsion due to delocalization of radical in butadiene unit having conjugated double bond. A latex stability is the most important properties owing to use intact without separating polymer from base latex. For reducing polymerization time without decreasing any properties of latex, carbon tetra-chloride which has been used as the most popular chain transfer agent was replaced to combination of tert-dodecylmercaptane and ${\alpha}$-methylstyrene dimer. The replacement yielded reducement or 2 hr in polymerization time. In the increment step, charge amount of acrylic acid was limited to 0.3 part to restrain viscosity enhancement. Just after initial step, addition of 0.1 part acrylamide prevent polymer chain from diffusing between two region followed by giving hardness and final good adhesive force to latex particles.

  • Up to now, most of studies on seismic analysis have been limited to analyze buildings and underground structures individually so that the interaction between them could not be analyzed effectively. Thus, in this study, a dynamic analysis was conducted for soil-structure interaction with a complex underground facility composed of a building and an adjacent underground structure constructed on a surface soil and the bed rock ground conditions. Seismic stability was analyzed based on interstory drift ratio and bending stress of structure members. As a result, an underground structure has more effect on a high-rise building than a low-rise building. However the above structures were proved to be favorable for seismic stability. On the other hand, tensile bending stresses exceeded the allowable value at the underground part of the building and the adjacent underground structure so that it turned out that the underground part could be weaker than the above part. Therefore, it is inferred that above and underground structures should be analyzed simultaneously for better prediction of their interaction behavior during seismic analyses because there exist various structures around buildings in big cities.
