In the present study, the limit point buckling and postbuckling behaviors of sinusoidal, shallow arches with pinned supports subjected to localized sinusoidal loading, based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, are numerically analyzed. There are some studies on the buckling of sinusoidal shallow arches under the effect of sinusoidal loading. However, in these studies, the sinusoidal loading acts along the horizontal projection of the entire shallow arch. No study has been found in the relevant literature pertaining to the stability of the shallow arches subjected to various lengths of sinusoidal loading. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to contribute to the literature by examining the effect of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading and the initial rise of the shallow arch on the limit point buckling and postbuckling behaviors. Equilibrium paths corresponding to certain values of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading and various values of the initial rise parameter are presented. It has been observed that the length of the sinusoidal loading and the initial rise parameter affects the transition from no buckling to limit point instability remarkably. The deformed configurations of the sinusoidal shallow arch under localized loading regarding buckling and postbuckling states are illustrated, as well. The effects of the length of the localized sinusoidal loading on the internal forces of the shallow arch are investigated during various stages of the loading.
Developers of new finite elements or nonlinear solution techniques rely on discriminative benchmark tests drawn from the literature to assess the advantages and drawbacks of new formulations. Buckling benchmark tests provide a rigorous evaluation of finite elements applied to thin structures, and a complete and detailed set of reference results would therefore prove very useful in carrying out such evaluations. Results are usually presented in the form of load-deflection curves that developers must reconstruct by extracting the points, a procedure which is often tedious and inaccurate. Moreover the curves are usually given without accompanying information such as the calculation time or number of iterations it took for the model to converge, even though this type of data is equally important in practice. This paper presents ten different limit-point buckling benchmark tests, and provides for each one the reference load-deflection curve, all the points necessary to recreate the curve in tabulated form, analysis data such as calculation time, number of iterations and increments, and all of the inputs used to obtain these results.
In this paper, using the probabilistic methods, the seismic demand of buckling restrained braced frames subjected to earthquake was evaluated. In this regards, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14-storybuildings with different buckling restrained brace configuration (including diagonal, split X, chevron V and Inverted V bracings) were designed. Because of the inherent uncertainties in the earthquake records, incremental dynamical analysis was used to evaluate seismic performance of the structures. Using the results of incremental dynamical analysis, the "capacity of a structure in terms of first mode spectral acceleration", "fragility curve" and "mean annual frequency of exceeding a limit state" was determined. "Mean annual frequency of exceeding a limit state" has been estimated for immediate occupancy (IO) and collapse prevention (CP) limit states using both Probabilistic Seismic Demand Analysis (PSDA) and solution "based on displacement" in the Demand and Capacity Factor Design (DCFD) form. Based on analysis results, the inverted chevron (${\Lambda}$) buckling restrained braced frame has the largest capacity among the considered buckling restrained braces. Moreover, it has the best performance among the considered buckling restrained braces. Also, from fragility curves, it was observed that the fragility probability has increased with the height.

The pultruded structural shapes are usually composed of thin-walled plate elements. Because the composite material has relatively low elastic moduli, the design of pultruded compression members may not be governed by the material strength limit state but by the stability limit state such as the local buckling or the global buckling. Therefore, the stability limit state must be checked to design pultruded columns. In this research, the local buckling analysis of pultruded I-shape column was conducted for various composite materials using the closed-form solution. To establish the design guidelines for the local buckling of pultruded I-shape compression members, the simplified form of equation to find the local buckling coefficient of pultruded I-shape column was proposed as a function of mechanical properties and the width ratio of plate components using the results obtainde by the closed-form solution. In order to verify the validity of proposed solution, the results obtained by the proposed approximate solution were compared with those of the closed-form solution and the experimental results.

The district heating system distributes the heat generated from a cogeneration plant to wider locations. In this process, the district heating pipe (DHP) is subjected to internal and external loadings. The internal loadings are generally caused by the operating conditions such as water temperature and internal pressure. Frictional interactions between the pipes and the soil contribute to the external loadings. Thus, investigation of the mechanisms of failure of DHPs will help to guarantee both mechanical stability and heating efficiency. In this study, we investigate the local buckling of DHPs using limit state design (LSD). Two methods are considered: the use of the limit state for the width-thickness ratio and the use of the limit state for the strain. The results are used to confirm that the DHP is stable under local buckling. Finally, we suggest a minimum preheating temperature for avoiding local buckling.
Local buckling can be ignored for hot-rolled ordinary strength steel equal angle compression members, because the width-to-thickness ratios of the leg don't exceed the limit value. With the development of steel structures, Q420 high strength steel angles with the nominal yield strength of 420 MPa have begun to be widely used in China. Because of the high strength, the limit value of the width-to-thickness ratio becomes smaller than that of ordinary steel strength, which causes that the width-to-thickness ratios of some hot-rolled steel angle sections exceed the limit value. Consequently, local buckling must be considered for 420 MPa steel equal angles under axial compression. The existing research on the local buckling of high strength steel members under axial compression is briefly summarized, and it shows that there is lack of study on the local buckling of high strength steel equal angles under axial compression. Aiming at the local buckling of high strength steel angles, this paper conducts an axial compression experiment of 420MPa high strength steel equal angles, including 15 stub columns. The test results are compared with the corresponding design methods in ANSI/AISC 360-05 and Eurocode 3. Then a finite element model is developed to analyze the local buckling behavior of high strength steel equal angles under axial compression, and validated by the test results. Following the validation, a finite element parametric study is conducted to study the influences of a range of parameters, and the analysis results are compared with the design strengths by ANSI/AISC 360-05 and Eurocode 3.

The Purpose of this paper is to evaluate the buckling strength of conceptually designed KALIMER reactor vessel. For evaluation of the buckling load buckling load the design equations and the finite element analysis are used. In finite element method the eigenvalue buckling analysis nonlinear elastic buckling analysis using snap-through buckling method and nonlinear elastic-plastic buckling analysis are carried out. the calculated buckling loads of KALIMER reactor vessel using the finite element method are in well agreement with those of the design equations. From the calculated results of buckling load in KALIMER rector vessel it is shown that the plasticity of vessel materials significantly affects the buckling load but the initial imperfection has little effects, In checking the limits of bucking load of KALIMER reactor vessel using the ASME B & PV Section III. Subsection NH the non-seismic isolation design can not satisfy the buckling limit requirements but the seismic isolation design can sufficiently satisfy the requirements.
In this paper an analytical investigation pertaining to the elastic shear buckling behavior of transversely stiffened orthotropic plate under in-plane shear forces is presented. All edges of plate are assumed to be simply supported and the evenly placed stiffener is considered as a beam element neglecting its torsional rigidity. For the solution of the problem Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed. Using the derived equation, the limit of buckling stress of transversely stiffened plate is suggested as a graphical form. Based on the limit of buckling stress of stiffened plate, graphical form of results for finding the required stiffener rigidity is presented when one and two stiffeners are located, respectively.

The lead frame manufactured by press stamping process, is an important part of semiconductor. The recent technical trend of semiconductor, chip sized and high performance package technology, requires the lead frame to be of more multi-leads and of fine ILP (Inner Lead Pitch). As the ILP is getting finer, its corresponding punch of the stamping die is getting narrower. The punch narrower than its stamping limit has been broken due to local buckling. This paper analyzed the phenomena of punch breakdown. Moreover, the punch design was modified to increase the critical limit of buckling force. This paper, also, suggested new design rules of the punch, which asks the modification of its lead frame design that has to be considered in the stage of semiconductor package design. The new design rules of lead frame design yields a good reliability of semiconductor package as well as a good quality of lead frame.
The critical buckling loads of unsymmetrically laminated rectangular plates with a given material system and subjected to combined lateral and inplane loads are maximized with respect to fiber orientations by using a sequential linear programming method together with a simple move-limit strategy. Significant influence of plate aspect ratios, central circular cutouts, lateral loads and end conditions on the optimal fiber orientations and the associated optimal buckling loads of unsymmetrically laminated plates has been shown through this investigation.
