  • The LED lighting used spot-light illuminate the limited surface. So it is a key-point to condense wide emission angle of high power light emitting diodes (LEDs) to narrow that angle. In this paper, the secondary optics was designed by lens-makers formula for concentration rays of LED into specific region. So, it simulated the optics that designed by lens makers-formula in the optical design program, LightTools. And then, show the p propriety of lens design utilizing simulation result, luminous intensity, emission angle.

  • Stage art basically builds upon the essence of "seeing," and at the same time, possesses relativity in showing and seeing. Stage lighting uses artificial light to solve the essence of "seeing", which is the foundation of stage art, and coming into the modern age, its role has been enhanced to an important medium for visual expression in stage art, due to the lighting tools that developed at a rapid pace along with the discovery of electricity, as well as the development of optics. Therefore, not only does lighting use a medium known as light in a field of stage art that gives mental and emotional inspiration to the audience, and aesthetically expresses time and space. In other words, stage lighting is a complex function of light engineering (technology and science) and aesthetic sense (feeling and art). This study aims to do research on methods for the visualization of stage space through lighting, mainly focused on dancing. I have studied the basics of stage lighting, its relations with other fields of stage art, and the functions and characteristics of lighting. Results show that lighting could be used to maximize the visualization of dancing and emphasizing the artistic growth of lighting and its ability to aesthetically express and I came to the following conclusions. First, lighting uses the forms and directions of light that various tools are able to produce in order to visualize the space on stage, and can maximally express the image that the work seeks. Second, it is possible to use lighting, through the movement of light, as a visual representation of the configuration of space in dancing works. Third, through the expression of visual and spatial aspects created by light, the work's dramatic catharsis can bring out mental and emotional feelings form the audience. Fourth, lighting can be seen not as a supporting role, but as an original visual design. To conclude, in order for lighting to be freed form the simple function of "lighting up the stage," which a majority of people think is common knowledge, and grow as one area in art, lighting designers must understand the intentions of the choreographer and the work with creativity and artistry they must consider light and color as an aesthetic language in order to heighten the effects of the work and allow it to partake as one element of work creation, so that lighting will be treated as a form of art.

  • This paper investigates a method to improve the lighting performance of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), which are packaged using two separate remote phosphor layers, a yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor layer and a red-emitting ${\alpha}-SrO{\cdot}3B_2O_3:Sm^{2+}$ phosphor layer. The thicknesses of these two layers are $800{\mu}m$ and $200{\mu}m$, respectively. Both of them are examined in conditions where the average correlated color temperatures (CCT) are 7700 K and 8500 K. For this two-layer model, the concentration of red phosphor is varied from 2% to 30% in the upper layer, while in the lower layer the yellow phosphor concentration is kept at 15%. It was found interestingly that the lighting properties such as color rendering index (CRI) and luminous flux are enhanced significantly, while the color uniformity is maintained in a relatively close range to the one of one-layer configuration (measured at the same correlated color temperature). Besides, the transmitted and reflected light of each phosphor layer are revised by combining Kubelka-Munk and Mie-Lorenz theories. Through analysis, it is demonstrated that the packaging configuration of two-layer remote phosphor that employs red-emitting ${\alpha}-SrO{\cdot}3B_2O_3:Sm^{2+}$ phosphor particles provides a practical solution for general WLEDs lighting.

  • In this paper, we study a method of designing a reflector for LED light sources with an asymmetric light distribution. In a sports game, lighting with a symmetric distribution makes the athlete and spectators look directly at the light source, so it can cause glare. We derive the optimal tilt angle and design a reflector with asymmetric light distribution to solve these problems. Afterward, performance is analyzed according to the tennis-court lighting standard, and is confirmed to meet the class 1 European standard.

  • In this paper, a study of the design of a lighting optical system to form indirect light was conducted, to reduce the glare caused by the hot spot of the LED. In the case of using an LED for indoor lighting, glare is caused because of the high luminance and non-uniform luminance distribution. In particular, LED stands are located close to the user's eyes and are used for a long time, so research to reduce glare is essential. Therefore, in this paper an optical system structural study and the design of an LED stand for glare reduction were conducted. Afterward, the luminance analysis and comparison to an existing LED stand product confirmed that the reflective LED stand proposed in this paper had better performance in terms of glare.

  • In this paper, we design a helical fin structure for the heat sink for a high-power LED lighting module, and analyze its thermal properties. By means of the helical fin structure, we can obtain about 14% larger surface area for the limited volume and it can decrease the LED chip temperature by about 12%. Because this helical fin heat sink has 15% less total volume than a conventional one, we can also expect to reduce the production cost due to these structural properties.

  • The machine vision technology has been widely used in the industrialized nations like the United States, Japan, and EU in the various industries from the late 1980s. Machine vision inspection system mainly consists of a camera, optics, illumination and an image acquisition system. Optimization of the illumination light source is very important. This paper shows a comparison between Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control and strobe control in driving LED lighting system for machine vision. PWM control method has problems such as a temperature rising of LED and a flickering in image measurement for inspection. In contrast, the proposed strobe control method can suppress the temperature of LED light source below 40℃. Also, it can remove the flickering problem through a synchronization between a frame grabber and a camera shutter. Finally, the strobe control method was shown to extract clearer images with a high precision compared to PWM control method.

  • This paper studies a method of applying pre-distortion to the image mask of the gobo illumination optical system to correct an irradiated image and irradiate a clear image. In the case of the gobo illumination optical system, since it is generally irradiated with a tilt, distortion in the upper and lower directions occurs severely in the image. To solve this problem, the correction coordinates of the image were derived using a proportional equation, and the distortion was corrected by applying them to the image mask. As a result, it was confirmed that the distortion was reduced by 64.5% compared to the case of using the existing image mask.

  • We investigated the optical design of a smart headlamp capable of producing various beam patterns through only on/off modulation of light sources. This was implemented by forming a continuous matrix of beams from discontinuous beam patterns by means of a multi-array LED optical system. As one such optical system, the multi-array LED system is a convenient and economical device for implementing beam patterns with the simple on/off modulation of the light sources. A single optical assembly module can be made by combining a multiple-LED array, optical system module, and electronic control with no need for any additional mechanical components. The present optical system was designed to include a secondary lens and a projection lens mounted at the front of each LED in the array to realize accurate lighting patterns as well as the required luminosity at a distance of 25 m in the forward direction. Finally, we identified and analyzed the patterns implemented by the designed optical system that produced satisfactory performance of high beams and adaptive driving beams (ADB).
