  • The purpose of this study is a proposal about the flexibility of the performance category to revitalize the "Housing Performance Grading Indication System". This system consists of 5 main performance parts, 14 performance categories and 20 detailed performance lists. 5 main performance parts are Noise and Acoustics(Light-weight impact sound control, heavy-weight impact sound control, sound control of toilet, sound control of party wall), Long-life(flexibility, remodeling & maintenance, durability), Landscape & Indoor Environment(landscape, formaldehyde control& ventilation, daylighting, thermal environment), Welfare & Barrier-free(playground and community center, welfare space, barrier-free design), Fire Safety(fire safety, safe place, fire-resisting quality). The flexibility of the performance category is conformed to Long-life housing related grading and can realize the Long-life housing in response to resident needs about the space rearrangement. Now, The flexibility of the performance category is limited to the evaluation of the private space, that is, the Skeleton evaluation. This study would suggest alternatives to improve uppermost limits through analyzing 60 examples from January 9th 2009 to October 30th 2008. The flexibility of the performance category is possible to estimate not only the Skeleton evaluation but also the Infill evaluation in response to social changes.

  • In apartment buildings, floor-impact sound has been regarded as the major source that causes complaints from residents. It is mainly due to the use of light-weight structures and the lack of researches in terms of floor-impact sound. The purposes of this study are analyzing the characteristics of vibration response and sound radiation of 12type void slabs in the improvements void slab by impedance method and finding the fittest improvements void slab on the 12type void slab. The main results of this study are summarized as below: (1) In the $\frac{1}{3}$ octave band level of sound radiation, $\frac{1}{3}$ octave band levels, measured from four-divided improvement void slab(No.8) and eight-divided improvement void slab(No.12), are 10~25 dB lower than that of standard void slab(No.1) in the 1250 Hz. Especially, eight-divided improvement void slab(No.12) is the best void slab in terms of radiation efficiency of sound level. (2) In the correlation relation of acceleration and sound radiation, standard void slab(No.1), four-divided improvement void slab(No.8), SK standard four-hole void slab(No.10), and eight-divided improvement void slab(No.12) are positive correlation relation.

  • Auditory experiments based on subjective responses were undertaken for the standard heavy and light weight impact noise. Relations between noise levels and subjective evaluations were also investigated. As a result, it was shown that the noise class was rated with the range of sensible satisfaction by investigating the various social responses for the floor impact noise. The rate classification for the heavy weight impact noise is suggested as a design guide for concrete slabs which satisfy the residents' requirements in various sound insulation capacities of multistory residential buildings.

  • The overall noise reduction was compared in regard to the vibrational characteristics of floor impact noise in a multi story residential building which has several noise reduction treatments. The vibration through its structural elements such as wall, floor and ceiling and sound emitting were investigated for each insulation treatment. It was found that, in case of heavy-weight impact noise, the vibration energy is emitted mostly from ceiling, but for the light-weight impact noise, most of the energy comes through ceiling and walls. • Demand for wood in construction is increasing worldwide. In Korea, technical reviews of high-rise Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) buildings are under way. In this paper, Floor Impact Sound Insulation Performance (FISIP) and Transmission Loss (TL) of 150 mm thick CLT floor panels made of two domestic species, Larix kaempferi and Pinus densiflora, are investigated. The CLT slabs were tested in reverberation chambers connected vertically. When comparing Single Number Quantity (SNQ) of FISIP of the bare panels, the Larix CLT is 3 dB lower in heavy-weight and 1 dB in light-weight than the Pinus CLT. However, there was no difference when concrete toppings were added to improve the performance. As the concrete toppings became thicker, the heavy-weight was reduced by 9 dB ~ 20 dB, and the light-weight by 20 dB ~ 30 dB. And the analysis of these results with area density has confirmed that the area densities are highly correlated (R2 = 0.94 ~ 0.99) to the FISIP of the CLT. The types of CLT didn't affect the TL. Comparison of theoretical TL values with measured TL values has shown that the frequency characteristics are similar but 8 dB ~ 12 dB lower in measured values. The relationship between the TL and frequency characteristics of the tested CLT slabs was derived by using the correction value.

  • This paper reports the test results of the floating floor system used to reduce the floor noise of apartment buildings. Recently, many soft resilient materials placing between the reinforced concrete slab and finishing mortar are used. The resilient material should not only reduce the floor impact sound vibration from the floor but also support the load on the floor. Thus, even if soft resilient materials satisfy the maximum limitation of light-weight impact sound and heavy-weight impact sound, these materials may not support the load on the floor. The experimental program involved conducting sixteen sound insulation floating floor specimens. Three main parameters were considered in the experimental investigation: resilient materials, loading location, and layers of floor. Experimental results indicated that the stiffness of resilient material significantly influenced on the structural behavior of floating floor system. In addition, the deflection of the floating concrete floor loaded at the side or coner of the specimen was greater than that of the floor loaded at the center of the specimen. However, the aerated concrete did not effect on the cracking strength of floating floor system.

  • The present study aims to investigate the level difference of floor impact noises of composite floor structure using EVA resilient materials. In order to this, four different types of resilient materials were designed combining PET, PP sheet and EVA mount including Flat type, Deck type, Cavity type and Mount type. Totally 9 different samples were made for acoustic measurements which were carried out twice with bang-machine and impact ball as the heavy-weight floor impact noise sources. All the floor impact noise measurements were undertaken at the authentication institution. As a result, concerning Flat and Cavity types, it was found that 2 dB ~ 5 dB of heavy-weight floor impact noise was reduced supplementally when PET was added, while floor impact noise larger than 50 dB was acquired when single resilient material was used. Especially, most high performance was obtained for Mount type with 1st grade of light-weight floor impact noise and 2nd grade of heavy-weight floor impact noise. This is because of material property with low dense PET sound absorption materials which fill all around EVA mounts. Also, it was considered that this results are due to the sound impact absorption by the both EVA mounts and the air cavity between EVA mount and PP sheet. Also, it was found that at least 36 EVA mounts per 1m2 area of resilient panel make more noise reduction of heavy-weight floor impact noises.

  • The noise between floors of apartment has been hot issue nowadays. In order to improve the noise insulation performance, we proposed the antivibration rubber system which can be applied to the floor system for sound insulation. Among various types of elastomer, butyl rubber showed the good aging characteristic, low rebound resilience and high damping factor. Thus, the butyl rubber was selected as a basic rubber for antivibration rubber system. The effects of type and loading amounts of carbon black on antivibration properties of butyl rubber were studied. The increase of surface area and the content of carbon black resulted in high bound rubber fraction, high mechanical property, low rebound resilience, and high damping factor of butyl rubber. Based on the results of this study, the new antivibration rubber was prepared and applied to the floor system for sound insulation. The impact sounds of floor system proposed in this study were 40 dB and 43 dB in cases of light weight and heavy weight impact sound, respectively.
